Chapter 31: The Power-Absorbing Technique

Would Valentino be willing to take the blame for killing Leo on Aizen’s behalf? The answer, of course, is yes.

Anyone who fears death would make the wisest decision in such a situation as quickly as possible. Those who are afraid of dying are willing to gamble on anything—except for their own life.

If Valentino wasn’t afraid of dying, then Aizen would truly be at a loss. Even if he were to kill Valentino, it would be pointless; the high-ranking officials of the Left Clan would ultimately hold Aizen responsible for Leo’s death.

Of course, at that time, Aizen could also prove his strength and his value. With both Leo and Valentino dead, the Left Clan, in need of someone to take charge of the Black-Clothed Disciples’ area, might temporarily spare Aizen and allow him to atone for his sins by continuing to compete for resources for the sect.

But that would only be a temporary measure. Aizen couldn’t stay in the Black-Clothed Disciples’ area forever. Not to mention that the system mission required him to become an Outer Clan disciple within a month. Even without that requirement, Aizen would eventually have to walk this path.

Once he left the Black-Clothed Disciples’ area and entered the Outer Clan, what value would he still have? The Left Clan had other contenders in the Outer Clan to support, and once Aizen lost his usefulness, the influential figure behind Leo would not let him go.

Disposing of the donkey after the grinding is done is a common practice in the Devil Clan, where the strong thrive and the weak perish.

Valentino had to take the blame. If he did, he might survive; if he didn’t, he’d die right now.Aizen, on the other hand, had to clear himself of suspicion, as he had more important things to do and couldn’t be trapped in this situation.

"I have no choice. I agree. I’ll contact my uncle soon, and he will send people to support my rise to power."

Valentino chose to submit.

The situation was stronger than him; he had no other option. Aizen had dared to kill Leo, and if he truly angered Aizen enough to kill him, he’d be dying in vain. Aizen might even live longer afterward.

Such a desperate gamble might be something others would consider, but risking his own life for it was not worth it.

"Good."

Aizen’s lips curled into a cold smile, and he suddenly pressed his hand down onto the top of Valentino’s head.

"You!"

Valentino was so frightened that his soul nearly left his body. Was Aizen planning to kill him after all?

Before he could react, an indescribable and terrifying suction force suddenly erupted from above his head.

This force carried an incomparably sinister energy. Valentino felt his mind roar, and his blood seemed to boil. The internal energy he had cultivated for three or four years surged out of his dantian, flooding through his meridians like a broken dam and pouring madly toward the top of his head.

"Ah!!"

Tears and snot streamed down Valentino’s face in agony. His eyes bulged so far they seemed ready to pop out, his eyeballs quickly becoming bloodshot. He wanted desperately to resist, but his limbs wouldn’t obey him and only convulsed violently.

The terror of the Power-Absorbing Technique was such that anyone who experienced it would never want to feel it again. Ever. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Lilith, standing nearby, paled with shock. She was rarely frightened by anything, even if Aizen had skinned Valentino alive in front of her; blood and gore wouldn’t faze her.

But this terrified her. Valentino’s eyes were rolling back, his skin writhing as if countless insects crawled beneath it, his muscles spasming uncontrollably, as though some terrible force was draining him.

The air seemed to stagnate, and an oppressive aura emanated from Aizen. His black hair moved despite the stillness, and his figure seemed to grow taller, his eyes glowing like a panther in the night, hunting its prey.

In just two breaths’ time, Aizen’s five fingers curled slightly, and he exhaled a breath of turbid air, his eyes gleaming brightly.

"Thud."

Valentino collapsed when Aizen lifted his hand from his head, gasping desperately for air, his body trembling. His eyes still rolled back, and his mind was too dazed to think straight.

Lilith’s heart surged with shock. What kind of Sorcery art did Aizen just use? It was terrifying and strange. What had he done to Valentino?

"Not a bad feeling," Aizen murmured to himself, looking at his hand and sensing the internal energy coursing through his body.

The energy he absorbed was half of Valentino’s, representing nearly two years of cultivation. Now circulating through his meridians, this energy needed to be refined slowly using a special technique. If he recklessly combined it with his own, it would bring disaster.

He felt physically stronger, not an illusion, but a result of Valentino’s energy coursing through his meridians. The meridians connected to his limbs and bones, and with internal energy constantly flowing, his physical strength naturally increased, subtly improving his body over time.

Just like a treasured sword growing sharper under repeated infusions of energy, his body would be gradually refined.

"Aizen... are you alright?"

Lilith asked cautiously, her eyes filled with concern and a trace of fear. Aizen’s aura had become more sinister, and she felt uneasy.

Aizen raised an eyebrow and smiled slightly, nodding. "I’m fine."

He then turned his gaze to Valentino, who was slowly coming back to his senses. The look Valentino gave him was one of utter terror, as if he were staring at a monster. It was a fear that came from the depths of his soul.

Aizen was pleased with this expression. It meant he had become a nightmare, a heart demon for Valentino, making him too terrified to even think of opposing him.

"Valentino, I’ll hold onto part of your internal energy for now. When I think you’ve earned it, I’ll give it back. But only if you satisfy me with your performance...

Otherwise, you’ll die by my hand. Believe me."

Aizen looked down at Valentino, his gaze calm and deep.

Valentino lay on the ground, staring up at Aizen, unable to fathom him and too afraid to meet his eyes. He shivered as he remembered the agony he’d just endured.

Could that Power-Absorbing Technique return the stolen energy?

That was obviously a lie.

Aizen and Lilith left.

Valentino staggered to his feet, soullessly staring at the three corpses in the courtyard. They lay in the autumn grass, silent and lifeless.

And him? If he died, would he even have an intact corpse like them? Despair, fear, and confusion churned in his heart... feelings no one could understand.

He was now like a miserable, sniveling worm, living just to survive, blindly obeying Aizen’s every command.
