Treasure Hunt: Tycoon's Priceless Runaway Wife-Chapter 70: A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing
Chapter 70: Chapter 70: A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing
Although Le Tong’s fever had subsided, her nose was still a bit stuffy. She wasn’t dizzy, but she still had a bit of a headache. However, these were all within tolerable limits. Rather than staying at home daydreaming, she preferred to go back to work.
Originally, she could have rested at home for another one or two days since it was President Ji’s personal instruction, so it wouldn’t count as slacking off.
But thinking about those mountains of documents on Ji Rui’s desk, Le Tong felt a sense of guilt. Even if she stayed at home, she probably wouldn’t rest peacefully. So, she grabbed a large bag of breakfast and headed out.
"President, here’s your breakfast!" Le Tong placed a portion of rice porridge and dumplings, packed in lunch boxes, in front of Ji Rui.
"You’re okay now?"
Ji Rui glanced at the neatly arranged lunch boxes in front of him, inspecting Le Tong with a probing gaze from head to toe.
"Mm, I’m fine now. President, you have breakfast first, and I’ll go make you some coffee." Le Tong smiled at the man.
In fact, setting aside Ji Rui’s odd and suspicious nature, Le Tong always admired his courage and vigor at work. Ever since she joined the Ji Family, except for outside gatherings, Ji Rui was always the first to arrive at the company and the last to leave.
Ji Rui opened the lunch boxes, his eyes filled with a slight surprise and a hint of delight. freēwēbnovel.com
"Did you buy these?"
Le Tong shook her head, "No, I made the porridge myself. The dumplings are frozen ones. You just heat them up before eating; it’s quite convenient."
Ji Rui looked down at the dumplings in the lunch box, responding with a simple "Hm."
Le Tong watched Ji Rui nervously, "President, see if it suits your taste. If it doesn’t, I can order takeout for you."
If the man said he didn’t like it, she wouldn’t do something so silly again, heating up her and Yang Sheng’s breakfast, then feeling guilty about rejecting President Ji yesterday and his gesture of taking her to the hospital, only to turn back and heat up his portion to bring along.
Today, President Ji seemed like a different person; he opened both boxes, leaned in to smell them, and then looked at the still nervous Le Tong, "No need, it smells quite nice."
Receiving praise from others always puts one in a good mood, especially when the one appreciating her happens to be the strict and perpetually expressionless boss. Le Tong’s lips curled slightly, her smiling eyes meeting Ji Rui’s.
"I’ll be heading out now." Le Tong was eager to go make coffee for Ji Rui.
Ji Rui seemed well aware of what she was about to do, pointing with his finger to the exquisite gift box on the living room table.
"No coffee today, make me some tea."
Le Tong thought she had misheard, "Eh? Tea?"
It wasn’t that Ji Rui didn’t drink tea, but his first cup of coffee before starting work in the morning was a routine. Today, he was surprisingly switching to tea?
"Hm." Ji Rui responded as he got up to fetch a spoon and chopsticks, only to see a spoon and chopsticks already in the bag.
He took a spoonful of porridge, bringing it to his mouth, all the while keeping his gaze fixed on Le Tong’s bent-over back, lost in thought.
"President, here’s your tea!"
Le Tong placed the tea in front of Ji Rui, her gaze drifting over the lunch boxes that once held porridge and dumplings, now mostly gone. It seemed he wasn’t just being polite when he said the taste was okay.
"Sort through those documents and give them to Yang Sheng in the afternoon. If it gets too busy, you can have Lin Ling assist you."
In the past couple of days, Ji Rui had been unusually kind to her. Was it because she was sick, or was it the incident at the hospital that made him feel guilty and want to make it up to her?
Le Tong carried a large pile of documents back to her desk. Just as she set them down, she noticed the QQ icon flashing at the bottom of her screen.
She clicked it open to see it was Yang Sheng.
Big White Yang: Tongtong
Joyful: Here!
Le Tong quickly typed a word and sent it, then began perusing those documents.
Big White Yang: Did President Ji give you a hard time?
Le Tong was puzzled, hard time? President Ji indeed seemed out of character today, but it wasn’t hardship; on the contrary, he was surprisingly agreeable!
Joyful: Senior brother, what do you mean by that?
Le Tong knew Yang Sheng was concerned for her, so if he thought Ji Rui might trouble her, he must have his reasons.
Big White Yang: He had a stern face all day yesterday. I thought he was upset with you.
Le Tong thought she had misread it. She blinked and studied the screen again. No mistake, Yang Sheng had indeed said "upset."
Joyful: Senior brother, you’re overthinking it! Even if President is in a bad mood, it wouldn’t be because of me. Besides, do you think the president would ever do something like sulking?
Sulking, after all, is a privilege of the emotionally expressive.
Someone like Ji Rui, who could remain unfazed even if the sky fell, routinely kept a cold, detached demeanor. Sulking wasn’t really his thing.
Big White Yang: Alright, I hope I’m just overthinking it!
Joyful: Definitely! I’ll go organize the documents you needed and send them to you later.
Le Tong didn’t want to dwell on this issue any longer. Although she couldn’t recall the events of that drunken night with Ji Rui, there was still a vague sense of guilt. She was worried others might take advantage and fling accusations based on that night. Ji Rui might not care, but as a woman, she was particularly mindful.
Neither spoke further; both went back to their work.
At noon, Le Tong delivered the organized documents to the president’s office since Yang Sheng was in there discussing something with Ji Rui.
She thought the two men would be busy in the office. Unexpectedly, upon opening the door, she saw them sitting in the reception area with a set of Yixing tea ware on the coffee table, brewing and sipping Gongfu tea.
"Senior brother, here are the documents you wanted."
Le Tong handed the documents to Yang Sheng. He took them and glanced through, "Hmm, very good! No wonder President Ji doesn’t want to let you go."
Le Tong’s ears burned slightly, "Senior brother, could you not phrase it so succinctly? Anyone unaware would think President Ji is reluctant to give you a little dog named Le Tong."
Yang Sheng spat out the tea in his mouth, "A little dog? Given your demeanor, it’s more like a cow, not a dog!"
Le Tong rolled her eyes at him, "Is it badass? Or stubborn as a cow?"
Ji Rui, who hadn’t said a word, suddenly placed a cup of tea on the table beside him, glanced at Le Tong, and spoke indifferently.
"Come have some tea!"
Le Tong suddenly felt flattered and hurriedly sat down beside him.
"Thank you!"
Ji Rui glanced at her again, "Yang Sheng, you’re wrong, she’s not a dog, nor a cow; she’s a sheep."
Yang Sheng glared at Le Tong, "Rui, don’t be fooled by her appearance. If she’s a sheep, she’s one in cow’s or even wolf’s clothing."
