Treasure Hunt: Tycoon's Priceless Runaway Wife-Chapter 93: She confessed to you in person?
Chapter 93: Chapter 93: She confessed to you in person?
At noon, Yang Sheng accompanied Ji Rui to have lunch with an old client. This client, in his thirties, was surnamed Luo, and everyone called him Boss Luo.
After the meal, the three moved from the dining table to the tea table, chatting while sipping tea.
The room was very warm, so all three took off their coats, revealing identical white shirts.
Yang Sheng reached out to pick up his cup. Boss Luo, with sharp eyes, noticed the cufflinks on his sleeves.
"Oh! Xiao Yang, those are nice cufflinks, quite exquisite! Did your girlfriend give them to you?"
Yang Sheng smiled without speaking and just took a sip of tea. To others, it seemed like he had tacitly admitted it.
Ji Rui, who was sipping his tea, heard what Boss Luo said and looked at Yang Sheng’s reaction, curious eyes drifting to Yang Sheng’s wrist.
"You have a girlfriend? How come I didn’t know?"
Although they rarely inquired into each other’s romantic affairs, Ji Rui always believed that if Yang Sheng had a girlfriend, he would be the first to know.
Yang Sheng smiled, "It was a gift from Tongtong! Rui, you’re such a killjoy, can’t you let me pretend to have a girlfriend?"
Ji Rui fixed his gaze on Yang Sheng’s wrist, "A gift from Le Tong? Didn’t your birthday pass already?"
Yang Sheng extended his hand in front of Ji Rui to show off, "How about it? Very exquisite, right? Yes, my birthday has passed, but gifts don’t always have to be for birthdays, do they?"
Boss Luo chimed in, "Exactly, who says gifts have to be for birthdays? But I think this Tongtong likes you, otherwise, why would she bother to give such a refined gift?"
Yang Sheng chuckled, "Of course Tongtong likes me, I like her too!"
The "like" Yang Sheng referred to was certainly not the same "like" Boss Luo was implying.
Ji Rui coldly stared at Yang Sheng’s smiling face, "Did she confess to you?"
It seemed that the "like" Yang Sheng was referring to was not the kind Ji Rui assumed either.
"Does something like this need to be said?"
Yang Sheng wouldn’t frivolously express his feelings to others, and obviously, Le Tong wasn’t someone who would casually talk about love. To Yang Sheng, feelings were more about perception than words.
When with Le Tong, things were casual and relaxed. If it weren’t for feelings, how could there be such comfort and ease?
Yang Sheng spoke with confidence, as though quite sure that Le Tong was hopelessly devoted to him.
Ji Rui looked at the vibrant and joyful Yang Sheng, feeling quite uneasy.
Was Le Tong shifting her attention to Yang Sheng because she saw no gain or sweetness in remaining with him?
Truthfully speaking, compared to Ji Rui, Yang Sheng should be at a disadvantage both externally and internally.
But for Le Tong, the young secretary, if cozying up to him didn’t work, then Yang Sheng, being talented and handsome, was a pretty good choice!
"Yang Sheng, Le Tong isn’t as good as you think!"
Boss Luo went out to take a call, and Ji Rui, who had been quietly drinking tea, suddenly spoke to Yang Sheng.
Yang Sheng looked at Ji Rui in surprise, not understanding why someone who never meddled in others’ affairs and rarely spoke behind people’s backs would criticize Le Tong.
"Rui, how did Tongtong offend you?" Apart from this, Yang Sheng couldn’t think of any other reasonable explanation.
In Yang Sheng’s view, Le Tong, though inherently proud, had to mature from taking on family responsibilities early. She was wise in dealing with people and running her affairs, handling everything meticulously. Ji Rui’s disapproval of her was baffling to Yang Sheng.
"She’s done nothing to me. I’m just speaking as I see it."
Despite whatever negative perception Ji Rui had of Le Tong, he never intended to tell Yang Sheng about his entanglements with her.
As to why he wouldn’t tell Yang Sheng, Ji Rui wasn’t clear himself.
At this point, persuading Yang Sheng the way he did, Ji Rui felt he was doing it for Yang Sheng’s benefit, not wanting him to be harmed by Le Tong.
Seeing that he couldn’t get an answer, Yang Sheng didn’t press further and just spread his hands helplessly, "Sigh, I won’t pry into your personal affairs. All in all, if you think Tongtong isn’t good, it’s because you don’t understand her enough!"
Yang Sheng had no intention of defending Le Tong because, after all, she was merely Ji Rui’s secretary and didn’t need to earn Ji Rui’s full recognition and appreciation.
However, Ji Rui and Le Tong’s relationship seemed really tense lately. For someone as smart and hardworking as Le Tong, all she needed was a trusting boss to accomplish a lot in not even two years. If she couldn’t find suitable development at the Ji Family, as her senior, Yang Sheng wouldn’t stand by idly and let her remain as a low-level secretary.
Ji Rui naturally wouldn’t know that in Yang Sheng’s mind, Le Tong as a junior might not weigh any less than he, as an old friend.
He only thought that Yang Sheng didn’t understand Le Tong and was, at present, praising her blindly because he was deceived by her superficial tricks.
"What personal matters could I have with her? For a secretary, do you think it’s worth the effort to understand her thoroughly? It’s you who should not be blinded by a pair of worthless cufflinks!"
Ji Rui had been thoroughly aggravated by Le Tong these days. Their cold war continued without a sign of thawing.
Yang Sheng was taken aback by Ji Rui’s words, "Rui, hearing that, I don’t dare give you any more small gifts in the future."
In his view, though Ji Rui was wealthy, he didn’t look down on others like many rich people. Though he often gave off an aloof and solitary vibe, it was his nature rather than a result of judging people based on wealth.
But his words about Le Tong showed an evident strong prejudice against her.
Yang Sheng recalled when he first returned, he felt Ji Rui was extremely biased and misunderstood towards Le Tong. He had even advised Ji Rui while suggesting to Le Tong that she consider jumping ship to another company.
Yet later, their relationship seemed much better than he imagined. Not only did they work well together, but Le Tong also seemed to understand many of Ji Rui’s little habits.
Back then, it seemed Ji Rui was quite satisfied and appreciative of Le Tong.
However, the atmosphere between them had been quite strange these days. The strangeness not only showed in Le Tong but also seemed to be revealed in the otherwise emotionally restrained Ji Rui.
Yesterday, when Le Tong refused to work overtime, her reason was that it was "not worth it," implying that Ji Rui, as a boss, no longer motivated her to work hard.
Which could mean that Ji Rui might have done something that deeply disillusioned Le Tong?
But Ji Rui, apart from work and Ji Baby, could hardly find anything else that interested him. Aside from work, they had limited interactions, so what could have led to Le Tong’s disappointment?
