Chapter 1398: Fighting Eyeball (2)

Su Yu laughed, "You can draw your own conclusions. I've never been there before. How am I supposed to know?'

Why was he being so smug? Yellow Nine grumbled inwardly. She decided to forgive Su Yu and focus on harvesting the benefits. This guy was feeling more and more mysterious nowadays. Why did it feel like he knew everything?

She couldn't help but think that following this guy around wasn't a bad choice at all. Her left eye was shining. She could feel that her left eye acupoint was also growing stronger. It was even starting to transform into a sort of crystal.

With her injured right eye shut, she looked at the world with her left eye. The moment she did that, she exclaimed in astonishment, "How odd. Why is the source qi dropping onto the ground?"

This wasn't something she could see previously. Or to be precise, this wasn't something her senses could pick up previously. But now, she could clearly feel the ambient source qi dropping downward. This did not make sense.

Ambient source qi should remain floating in the air.

Su Yu was absorbing their surroundings with his shining left eye. First, he looked up. Then, he looked down. Finally, he looked at the spring and said, "Something under the spring is absorbing the ambient source qi. It is probably a treasure."

"Under the spring?" Yellow Nine hurriedly said, "I read about this in the records before. Nobody can dive into the spring. Some people tried it before, but upon diving into it, the healing water would transform corroding water."

"Yes." Su Yu nodded, "Thus, we can't dive down."

"Why did you talk about the treasure, then?"

Su Yu ignored the question of the illiterate fool. Yellow Nine might be stronger than Wu Lan in combat, but her brain wasn't too flexible. She lacked ingenuity, and she was unqualified to be a proper cultural researcher. She also lacked the spirit of discovery that a proper cultural researcher should possess.

Su Yu smiled, "What do you think is the purpose of strengthening your eye here? Any part of the body can't dive into the spring, but the left eye is probably an exception. Come on. Dig your eyeball out and toss it inside. I guarantee you will be fine."

"I—"

Bullshit!

There was no way she was going to do that. That would hurt a lot more. And what if she were to lose her eyeball to corrosion? Would she be forced to live as a one-eyed girl?

"Sigh. You have learned nothing but combat growing up with Hollow. You're essentially a warrior. Truth be told, those of the Liu Family are more suited for the willpower path, even if my Teacher Liu only cares about the martial application of willpower cultivation instead of the exploration of the unknown..."

Very few cultural researchers cared about research anymore. Only the weaker cultural researchers would focus on research. The stronger ones would all focus on combat.

"Each eyeball is connected to your body through the blood vessels. You only need to sever the blood vessels temporarily. You will be fine. Since you're refusing this great gift, I'll enjoy it myself."

Then, he dug his own eyeball out.

Yellow Nine inhaled in shock. This was indeed a crazy guy. Even if he could recover from such an injury, it would not discount the pain in any way.

Su Yu nonchalantly tossed the eyeball into the spring. Sure enough, it did not rot away. Through the eyeball, he was able to see the sight beneath the spring.

The world beneath was essentially a tiny tunnel of water surrounded by a sea of flame. The fire surrounding the tunnel would constantly burn the eyeball, which would also be constantly tempered by the spring water.

The deeper the eyeball went, the more intense the fire was. If one were to enter with one's body, even a Sunmoon would be reduced to ashes.

Su Yu couldn't help but gasp in admiration at the prowess of the one who had built the Luminous Domain Mansion.

Truly an incredible person.

This was merely one of the many zones on the first level yet it was capable of killing Sunmoons. One ought to know that building something of this scale would require an unimaginable amount of work. This spring alone could be classified as a middle or even high-tier earth weapon if it were to follow the classification of weapons.

Or perhaps the spring was even more powerful than that.

"How impressive. Absolutely impressive."

Su Yu kept gasping with amazement. Furthermore, this place had been built according to a human body. This place should have been the training grounds of humanity. The place of opportunities for humanity.

This was the legacy of the ancient Human Emperor, a place left behind to help humanity rise again. Unfortunately, the myriad races had been the ones benefiting more from this place compared to humanity.

"This is the wisdom of our ancestors."

When leaving a legacy to their descendants, these ancestors would not make it a direct gift. Rather, the legacy was something requiring hard work to acquire.

As far as Su Yu was concerned, this was not a good thing. These treasures should only fall into the hands of those with enough intelligence to utilize them. It would be a waste for these treasures to end up in the hands of fools.

Beside him, Yellow Nine watched in silence. She had discovered that not only was Su Yu ruthless toward others, but he was also ruthless toward himself. She couldn't help but admit that the way he acted felt refreshingly carefree.

Looking at the unconscious humans nearby, she asked, "What do you intend to do with them?"

Su Yu did not even spare them a glance as he said, "According to the illusion, they would fight an intense battle with some enemies. Eventually, they would retreat from this place in defeat. Unless they are Sunmoons, they won't be able to overcome my illusion."

"Are you not killing them? It's still dangerous to leave them around. An Invincible might be able to see through the truth through them."

"Do you think they can reach the seventh level and beyond? They have to go that high to encounter Invincibles."

Su Yu was unconcerned.

"Su Yu, you might claim that you're no longer part of humanity, deep inside, you're still a human..."

Su Yu sneered, "What nonsense is that? I am a human. I was born there. I grew up there. I hate those who have schemed against me. But that did not mean I hate those who had not wronged me. Yellow Nine, you might be a human, but you grew up in the Heavenly Hunt Pavilion. You were raised by Hollow. You can't be considered a human. You only have the skin of a human."

Yellow Nine offered no retort. That was not wrong. She had never received the education of a human. She had never been close to any human. She only knew Hollow. She only knew the concept of weak and strong. She only knew the Heavenly Hunt Pavilion. And the Heavenly Hunt Pavilion had always preached about all races being the same. Why should she consider herself a human?

Su Yu was different. He was merely disappointed with humanity. That was why he had separated himself from them. But he had never stopped being a human.

Abruptly, he said, "Shut up. Stop distracting me."

Under the spring, his eyeball had noticed something different.

He saw a clump of golden flame that was completely unlike the other fire, which was black in color. The golden flame was swaying about in the shape of an eyeball, moving as though it were alive.

Noticing Su Yu's eyeball, it approached curiously. The moment it approached, Su Yu felt a sharp pain. The golden flame was burning his eyeball. Above, golden flame burst out of Su Yu’s empty eyesocket as he groaned in pain.

"Interesting."

With a laugh, he manifested his fire character. The fourth-tier character started absorbing the golden flame leaking out of his eyesocket. As it did that, it started growing. As a fourth-tier character, it was a Mountainsea character.

All of Su Yu's characters had reached the same level. Of his twenty-eight characters, his blood character was the closest to the fifth tier. Under the spring, his eyeball collided against the golden flame repeatedly.

The flame continued burning his eyeball while the spring water continued washing his eyeball.

Eventually, the golden flame started dimming. Meanwhile, Su Yu's fire character shone brighter and brighter. By the time the golden flame started retreating, the fire character was already showing signs of breakthrough. It was now at the same level as the blood character, a step away from the fifth tier.

Finally, Su Yu's eyeball shot out of the spring and returned to his eyesocket.

When Su Yu looked at Yellow Nine again, flame danced amid his left eye as Yellow Nine exclaimed in pain. She asked, "What's that?"

"Killing Gaze."

Su Yu smiled, "Interesting. My left eye is now comparable to an earth weapon. The treasure down there is a clump of golden flame. It represents the left eye acupoint. It isn't a treasure to take away. Instead, it is here to accumulate a certain amount of special power that can be used to temper one's eye."

That was the biggest treasure one could find here. It wasn't a treasure one could take away. It also wasn't a treasure that could be consumed. It was merely meant for tempering.

Su Yu had a feeling that he could now kill by merely glaring at someone. He was now certain about one thing. The first level was a level meant to temper the nine Source Opening acupoints.

He could clearly feel that his left eye acupoint was much more powerful than his other acupoints. It was as though it had gone through a sort of transformation. He had learned the technique called Killing Gaze. He could try using it when encountering an enemy in the future. Just by glaring at someone, he could burn that someone to death.

With the energy of the golden flame depleted, water stopped gushing out of the spring. Eventually, it went still. It would likely remain so until enough source qi had been absorbed for it to start gushing again.

Yellow Nine had also benefited from the spring. Her left eye had grown much stronger than before. Naturally, her right eye was still injured. For now, she would have to settle for being a one-eyed girl.

As Su Yu shot the unconscious humans a glance, his blood character swept over. Then, he casually sent them flying before flickering away with Yellow Nine.

Moments later, the humans woke up. They stared around blankly, only remembering that they had fought an intense battle for the spring. After a bitter battle, they were able to flee safely.

One of them exhaled in relief and said, "That was close. Damn it! Those fellows were joining hands against us. Looks like we have no choice but to give up on the spring."

The others had a look of lingering fear. The battle earlier had been too dangerous. Even now, their heads were aching. Their bodies were also laden with wounds. They did not suspect anything. They only knew that they had been surrounded by enemies before escaping.

Liu Ji cursed, "Those bastards! I will kill them sooner or later!"

Despite their fury, they did not hesitate to leave the area. What could they do but run when their enemies had more people? They would return for revenge after gathering enough people. In any case, the spring would always be there.
