Chapter 257: Infernox Lava Beast

Elara’s eyes scanned the room, taking in the quiet forms of Layla and Lucias. They lay on the bed, their chests rising and falling with shallow breaths. The Krael’s attack had left its mark, and Elara knew she had to act fast.

She approached the bed, her hands glowing with a soft, ethereal light. The light danced across Layla and Lucias’ bodies, revealing the extent of their injuries. Elara’s eyes widened as she saw the absurd growth with black spots running all over their arms, where they’d been hit by the Krael’s attack.

"Ah, no~" Elara whispered, her voice barely audible. "The Krael’s poison is spreading fast."

Kyle, who had been pacing the room, stopped dead in his tracks. "What is it, witch? What’s happening to them?"

Elara’s expression was grim. "Their internal cores, which are also their life force, are being corrupted by negative energy. It’s causing an imbalance, and...they don’t have much time to live."

Kyle’s face went white. "What? No, there has to be something we can do!"

A slight frown formed in his face, they were the only two with knowledge on how to pilot a spacecraft if they repaired theirs. Which was a slim possibility, but there was also the chances of coming across one here in kraken.

Snow’s voice was calm, but Kyle detected a hint of concern. [Kyle, I have no record of this type of attack in the system. I’m sorry.]

Kyle’s eyes narrowed, his mind racing. ’There has to be something, Snow. Think!’

Elara stepped forward, her eyes shining with a determined glight. "There is a plant, a rare one, that might be able to help. It’s called the ’Luminaria’, and it blooms once every two years, only on Kraken."

Kyle’s eyes lit up with hope. "Where can we find it?"

Elara’s expression was cautious. "It’s located in a cave inside an active volcano, shielded by a blazing hot geothermal environment. The plant has a blue crystal appearance, shimmering in the soft light from holes in the cave."

Layla’s eyes fluttered open, her voice weak. "K-Kyle...don’t...don’t go..."

Kyle took her hand, his eyes burning with determination. "I’m going, Layla. I’ll bring back the Luminaria, and we’ll save you and Lucias."

Lucias stirred, his eyes opening slightly. "K-Kyle...be...careful..."

Elara nodded, her blonde hair glimmering in the soft light. "I’ll guide you to the volcano, Kyle. But we have to move fast. The Luminaria will only bloom for a few more hours."

Kyle’s grip on Layla’s hand tightened. "Lead the way, Elara."

’Snow can you scan the area for any active volcanoes nearby?’ He calmly asked

Snow’s response was immediate. [Already on it, Kyle. But be warned, the geothermal environment is hostile, and the volcano is full of dangers.]

Elara smiled, her eyes glimmering with excitement. "I must warn you, the volcanoes is full of dangers and dangerous beasts. But, that’s what makes life interesting, don’t you think, Kyle?"

She lightly smiled, her face bore a sense of someone dwelling in a tired routine of life. Longing for an adventure into the unknown.

Kyle’s expression was grim. "Let’s just get this done."

As they prepared to leave, Elara turned to Kyle, her voice low. "One more thing, Kyle. The Luminaria is guarded by a creature, one that’s been awakened by the volcano’s energy. It’s called the ’Infernox’, and it’s not going to let us take the plant without a fight."

Kyle’s eyes narrowed, his mind racing with strategies. "Whatever, I’m ready."

....

With Elara leading the way, they set off towards the volcano, the fate of Layla and Lucias hanging in the balance.

The journey was treacherous, the air thick with heat and the sound of rumbling lava filling the air. Elara navigated the twisting paths with ease, Kyle following close behind.

"That’s it." She pointed at the towering volcano.

As they approached the cave, the heat grew more intense, and Kyle could see the blue crystal appearance of the Luminaria shimmering in the soft light.

"This is it," Elara said, her voice barely audible over the roar of the volcano. "The Luminaria is just ahead. But be warned, the Infernox is not to be underestimated."

Kyle nodded, his eyes fixed on the Luminaria. "Thank you." He softly uttered, which elara also nodded.

Standing outside the entrance to the cave keeping watch.

With a deep breath, he stepped into the cave, the Infernox already waiting for him. Seemingly aware of their presence the moment they came within proximity, its eyes blazing with fury.

The state down was intense, the air filled with the scent of corroded steel and molten lava sliding down a landslide of hardened rocks

"Roar!" The Infernox roared with malice in it’s voice.

Kyle’s eyes locked onto the Infernox, its massive form blocking the path to the Luminaria. Littered on the ground in a distorted pattern, away from the molten lava.

’How can the plant still survive in such unnatural habitat?’ Kyle wondered, amazed yet intrigued by such botanical resilience.

[I don’t have records on the luminara plant, but I can tell this volcanic domain, plays a key role in it’s blooming cycle.] Snow stated, observing the plant.

The creature’s body was a twisted mass of lava rock and burning embers, its eyes blazing like molten magma. The air around it rippled with heat, making Kyle’s skin prick with sweat.

"Shadow craft activated!" Kyle whispered, his voice steady.

The shadows around him swirled, coalescing into a dark, form-fitting armor that covered his body. The armor pulsed with a soft, blue-black glow, and Kyle could feel its weight settling onto his shoulders.

The Infernox charged, its massive claws swiping through the air with a sound like thunder. Kyle dodged to the side, his shadows moving with him, and struck back with a shadow-infused fist.

The blow landed with a crunch, but the Infernox barely seemed to notice. It swung its arm again, and Kyle leapt back, avoiding the attack by mere inches.

"Come on, you fiery beast," Kyle muttered, his eyes narrowing.

He summoned a wave of shadows, sending them crashing into the Infernox like a dark tsunami. The creature stumbled, its footing uncertain on the rocky ground, and Kyle took advantage.

With a swift kick, he sent the Infernox stumbling back, its claws scraping against the stone walls of the cave. The sound sent shivers down Kyle’s spine, but he didn’t hesitate.

He leapt forward, his shadows swirling around him like a whirlwind, and landed a series of rapid-fire punches on the Infernox’s chest.

"Slow~" Kyle said in a low tone, easily avoiding the big beast strike.

The creature roared, its eyes blazing with fury, but Kyle didn’t back down. Not closing the distance between the lava beast, maintaining a safe distance of about 4 meters.

"Roar!" The molten creature roar snapped Kyle from his thoughts.

Opening it’s mouth wide, a torrent of molten lava shot out from it’s elongated jaw. Moving in an undeterred line, heading straight for Kyle.

"Not good." He could sense the danger in that attack, running to the side, refraining from having anything to do with blast.

He summoned a shadowy dagger, its blade gleaming with a dark, ethereal light, and plunged it into the Infernox’s side. The creature howled, its body convulsing, and Kyle took advantage.

With a swift motion, he yanked the dagger free and struck again, aiming for the same spot. The Infernox stumbled, its massive form crashing to the ground, and Kyle stood over it, his chest heaving with exertion.

The creature’s eyes flickered, its gaze locking onto Kyle’s, and for a moment, they simply stared at each other.

"What’s this?" Kyle questioned, staring at a pulsing reb glow at the center of it’s chest. "Is this it’s core?

[Yes. As you’ve guessed that is the creature’s core, destroying it would mean instant death but also the loss of it.]

"What!? Isn’t there another way? I mean it’s literally dead." Kyle grumbled, detecting a reduction in the creature’s aura.

[I’m afraid not Kyle. This creature is different just like the dargon’s, born from the volcanic lava and hardened rock. Giving life to an abomination, the reason you were easily able to defeat the krael and the infernox is because you’ve achieved something more than evolution.] Snow stated, with her usual cliffhangers.

"Seriously, who hates me this much?" Kyle sarcastically exclaimed with a weak sigh.

He planned on extracting the infernox core and storing it to absorb later, but unfortunately he has to destroy it. Or the creature would make a comeback, which would be a pain to deal with again. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

’You lose some you win some.’ He inwardly thought, plunging the shadow dagger into the creature’s chest.

Then, with a final roar, the Infernox vanished, its body dissolving into a pool of molten lava that flowed harmlessly away.

Kyle stood panting, his shadows dissipating as he caught his breath. He turned to face Elara, who stood outside the cave, her eyes fixed on him with a mixture of curiosity and respect.

"Well done, Kyle." She said, her voice soft. "The Infernox is not an easy foe."

Kyle nodded, his eyes still fixed on the spot where the creature had fallen. "Thanks, Elara. I had a bit of help from my shadows."

Elara smiled, her eyes glimmering with amusement. "I think you did more than just a bit, Kyle. You’re a natural."

Kyle chuckled, feeling a sense of pride and satisfaction. He walked back to the Luminaria, his eyes fixed on the plant’s glowing blue crystal.

"It’s time to save Layla and Lucias," he said, his voice firm.

Elara nodded, her expression serious. "Yes, let’s get back to them. We don’t have much time to waste."

As they made their way back to the cottage, Kyle couldn’t shake the feeling that he was being watched. He glanced around, his shadows on high alert, but saw nothing.

Still, the feeling persisted, making the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end.

The journey back was a blur, Kyle’s mind focused on the task ahead. He had to save Layla and Lucias, no matter what it took.

As they approached the cottage, Kyle’s heart skipped a beat. What if it was too late? What if the Luminaria didn’t work?

He pushed the doubts aside, his eyes fixed on the cottage door. He would save them, no matter what.

Elara placed a hand on his arm, her eyes serious. "Kyle, I have to warn you...even if the Luminaria works, there’s no guarantee they’ll be okay. The Krael’s poison is powerful."

Kyle’s expression was grim. "I know, Elara. But we have to try."

Elara nodded, her expression understanding. "Let’s do it, then."

Together, they entered the cottage, the fate of Layla and Lucias hanging precariously in the balance.

The scene inside was tense, the air thick with anticipation. Lucias and Layla lay on the bed, their breathing shallow, their skin gray and clammy.

Elara approached them, the Luminaria held tightly in her hand. She began to chant, her voice low and soothing, as she waved the plant over their bodies.

The room was silent, the only sound Elara’s voice, as she worked to save the lives of Kyle’s friends.

Slowly, a blue glow began to emanate from the Luminaria, enveloping Lucias and Layla in its light. The air around them seemed to vibrate with energy, and Kyle could feel the power of the plant coursing through their bodies.

As the minutes ticked by, Lucias and Layla’s breathing grew stronger, their skin regaining its natural color. The black spots on their arms began to fade, and Kyle could see the life returning to their eyes.

Finally, they opened their eyes, looking around in confusion.

"K-Kyle?" Layla whispered, her voice weak.

Kyle smiled, relief washing over him. "It’s okay, Layla. You’re going to be okay."

Lucias nodded, his eyes fixed on Kyle. "What...what happened?"

Elara smiled, her eyes shining with satisfaction. "You were poisoned by the Krael’s attack, but the Luminaria has cured you."

Kyle’s expression was grim. "You were both very lucky. The Luminaria is a rare and powerful plant."

Lucias and Layla exchanged a look, their eyes filled with gratitude.

"Thank you, Kyle," they said in unison.

Kyle smiled, feeling a sense of relief and satisfaction. "No need to thank me, guys. We’re in this together, remember?"

As they smiled, Elara’s expression grew serious.

"Kyle, we need to talk. The Krael’s attack, it’s not just a random event. There’s something bigger going on here."

Kyle’s eyes narrowed, his mind racing with possibilities. "What do you mean, Elara?"

Elara’s expression was grim. "I mean, the Krael is not the only one searching for something on Kraken. There are others, powerful beings, who are also after the Luminaria."

Kyle’s grip on the bedframe tightened. "What are you saying, Elara?"

Elara’s eyes locked onto his. "I’m saying, Kyle, that you’re in grave danger. The Krael is just the beginning."
