Triple X System-Chapter 275: The Aftermath
The cavern dissolved into a blur of light and shadow, Snow’s eyes blinking open to find herself back in Arachne’s sanctum. The air was thick with the scent of incense and the flickering candles cast eerie shadows on the walls.
Lilith stood by the stone pedestal, her eyes fixed on something in her hand. Snow’s gaze followed, her heart still pounding from the battle.
Arachne sat cross-legged on the floor, her eyes closed, a look of... calm on her face. Kyle was beside her, his chest rising and falling with slow breaths.
Snow’s eyes narrowed. "What’s going on?"
Lilith turned, her expression unreadable. "The Shadow King’s gone. The mark on Kyle is fading."
Snow sheathed her sword, moving closer. "And Arachne?"
Lilith’s gaze flicked to the woman. "Arachne’s...paying the price for her choices."
Snow’s jaw tightened. "What does that mean?"
Arachne’s eyes opened, gleaming with a hint of triumph. "I did what was needed, Snow. The balance is restored."
Kyle stirred, his eyes fluttering open. "Snow...what...happened?"
Snow knelt beside him, relief washing over her. "You okay?"
Kyle’s gaze was hazy but clearing. "Yeah...I think so."
Arachne rose, her movements fluid. "Kyle’s power’s contained. The Shadow Realm’s influence is gone."
Lilith’s face was expressionless. "But the cost..."
Arachne’s smile was thin. "The cost was worth it. Balance is restored."
The room seemed to hold its breath, tension lingering in the air. Snow’s instincts screamed warning...
Suddenly, the sanctum’s walls shimmered, dissolving into chaos. A voice echoed...
"The game isn’t over, Snow..."
The Chapter ended with uncertainty hanging in the air.
The voice faded, the sanctum’s walls solidifying once more. Snow’s eyes narrowed, her hand on her sword’s hilt.
"What was that?" she asked, her gaze sweeping the room.
Lilith’s face was expressionless. "A message."
Arachne’s smile was cryptic. "The threads of fate are still weaving, Snow. The game...is always on."
Kyle rose, his eyes clearer now. "What game?"
Snow’s jaw set. "We’ll figure it out."
Arachne turned to a small, ornate box on the pedestal. "For now...rest. The Shadow Realm’s influence is gone. But..."
She opened the box, revealing a small crystal that pulsed with a soft light. "The balance is delicate. This...is a piece of the Shadow Realm’s power. Guard it, Snow."
Lilith’s eyes narrowed. "Arachne..."
Arachne’s gaze was steady. "I did what was needed. The crystal will ensure...stability."
Snow took the crystal, its power humming in her hand. "What’s next?"
The room fell silent, the air thick with unspoken questions...
Suddenly, the sanctum’s doorway shimmered, a figure stepping through. Tall, imposing, with piercing blue eyes.
"Snow," he said, his voice low. "I need your help."
The room held its breath. Who was this stranger?
The stranger’s piercing blue eyes seemed to bore into Snow’s soul, his chiseled features set in a determined expression. He was tall, his broad shoulders filling the doorway as he stepped further into the sanctum, his black leather jacket creaking with the movement. A scar ran down his left cheek, a stark white line against his tanned skin, adding a hint of danger to his already imposing presence.
"I’ve been searching for you, Snow," he said, his voice low and gravelly, like the rumble of thunder on a summer night. "My name is Ryker. I’m..."
"A Shadow Hunter," Lilith interrupted, her voice cold, her eyes narrowing into slits. "What do you want, Ryker?"
Ryker’s gaze didn’t waver from Snow’s. "I’ve been tracking a powerful artifact, one that’s connected to the Shadow Realm. It’s been stolen, and I need Snow’s help to retrieve it."
Arachne’s eyes gleamed with interest, her hands stitched together in front of her. "An artifact, you say? What makes you think Snow can help?"
Ryker’s eyes flicked to Arachne, his expression unreadable. "I’ve seen Snow’s power. She’s the only one who can handle this."
Snow’s eyes narrowed, her grip on the crystal tightening. "What artifact?"
Ryker’s jaw set. "The Echo Blade. It’s a sword that can harness the power of the Shadow Realm. If it falls into the wrong hands..."
The sanctum fell silent, the air thick with tension. Snow’s mind was racing – the Echo Blade, a sword with the power to harness the Shadow Realm’s energy? The implications were staggering.
Lilith’s voice was a cold whisper. "The Echo Blade was thought to be destroyed."
Ryker’s eyes were like ice. "It was stolen from the Shadow Hunters’ vault. I tracked it to a black market auction in Fargos."
Arachne’s smile was thin. "Fargos, eh? That’s...complicated territory."
Snow’s eyes locked onto Ryker’s. "I’ll do it. I’ll get the Echo Blade."
The room seemed to hold its breath, the only sound the quiet hum of the crystal in Snow’s hand...
Ryker nodded, a hint of approval in his eyes. "I’ll brief you on the details. We leave...now."
Kyle stepped forward, his eyes narrowed. "I’m coming too."
Snow’s gaze flicked to him, concern etched on her face. "Kyle, you just got out of..."
Kyle’s jaw set. "I’m fine. I can help."
The group’s dynamic shifted, the air thick with unspoken questions...
Arachne’s voice was a whisper, her eyes gleaming with intrigue. "Fargos is a city of shadows, Snow. Be careful...the players there don’t play nice."
Ryker’s eyes locked onto Snow’s, a hint of challenge in them. "Let’s gear up. The auction’s tonight."
....
The air was thick with anticipation as Snow, Ryker, and Kyle geared up in Arachne’s sanctum. The walls seemed to hum with energy, the shadows dancing in sync with the flickering candles. Arachne handed Snow a sleek, black leather jacket, the material whispering against her skin like a promise of protection.
"For the shadows, Snow," Arachne said, her voice a whisper, her eyes gleaming with a hint of mischief.
Ryker checked his guns, his movements economical and deadly. "We’ll hit the auction house, grab the Echo Blade, and get out. Simple."
Kyle flexed his fingers, his eyes narrowed in concentration. "What’s the layout of the auction house?"
Ryker handed him a tablet with a 3D model of the building. "Three stories, heavily guarded. The Echo Blade’s in a vault on the second floor."
Snow’s eyes scanned the model, her mind racing with strategies. "We’ll need a distraction."
Arachne smiled, a wicked glare in her eyes. "Leave that to me. I’ll create a... diversion."
The group’s eyes locked, a silent understanding passing between them. This was it – the start of a high-stakes mission to retrieve the Echo Blade.
The sanctum’s walls seemed to fade, the darkness outside beckoning like a siren’s call. Ryker led the way, Snow and Kyle following, their footsteps echoing in the night.
Fargos loomed before them, a city of neon lights and shadowy alleys, its energy pulsating like a living thing. The auction house was a towering monolith in the heart of the city, its presence seeming to draw them in like moths to a flame.
As they approached, Arachne’s voice whispered in Snow’s ear, a mischievous tone to her voice. "The game’s on, Snow."
The night seemed to hold its breath..
The auction house loomed before them, a fortress of steel and glass, its entrance a whirlpool of activity as patrons arrived for the black market sale. Snow, Ryker, and Kyle blended into the shadows, their eyes scanning the crowd.
Ryker’s voice was a low murmur in Snow’s ear. "I got a contact inside. He’s bidding on the Echo Blade."
Snow’s gaze locked onto a slender figure lingering near the entrance. "Who’s the contact?"
Ryker’s eyes flicked to the figure. "Name’s Vix. She’s a thief. Play it cool."
Vix caught their eye, a flick of her wrist signaling them to follow. She led them to a cramped, dimly lit corridor, the air thick with the scent of smoke and secrets.
"We have a problem," Vix whispered, her eyes darting around the corridor. "The Echo Blade’s on the block soon. But there’s a wildcard bidder – someone’s offering top dollar for it."
Snow’s eyes narrowed. "Who?"
Vix’s gaze was like ice. "Don’t know. But they’re serious. They’re willing to kill for it."
The group’s eyes locked, the tension palpable. Suddenly, Arachne’s voice whispered in Snow’s mind, a mischievous tone to her voice.
"Time for a distraction, Snow."
The lights flickered, the auction house’s PA system crackling to life. A low, sultry voice whispered through the speakers, sending shivers down Snow’s spine.
"Ladeez and gentlemen, welcome to tonight’s auction...and welcome to the main event."
The corridor erupted into chaos, patrons surging towards the auction room. Snow’s eyes locked onto Ryker’s – it was now or never...
"Let’s move," Snow whispered, her sword clearing its sheath with a deadly whisper...
The night seemed to explode into action, a dance of deadly battle for bold and war.
’Somthing doesn’t seem right.’ Kyle inwardly thought, glancing down at his arm.
For some reason, ever since he’d arrived on kraken everything has erupted into chaos. Serious of information, emergence of strong individuals, holding a keen relationship to darkness and dark energy fought for him.
Along with unexpected allies and foes seeking something from him, which had brought him to the situation he presently found himself.
It was strange and disturbing, but for reasons unknown he wasn’t bothered that much.
"It feels like I’m loosing my sanity to the shadow ability." He weakly muttered, trying to grasp hold of things.
Ever since he’d literally died from the mana parasite, he was transported to a vast expanse of energy water. Known as the world tears of life water, where he came in contact with the being from sandhill castle.
From there, everything started being confusing and didn’t make sense anymore. It was like a higher being or god had accelerated his life playing speed.
