True Alpha's Chosen Mate-Chapter 310: That’s fine with me
I didn’t know whether Sven was stupid or he was just so carefree and unsuspecting that he believe everything at face value. How could he not wonder that for a month while he was gone, there were ways his mother could look for him?
"Ugh... I knew they were together in that!" Sven ruffled his hair as he grunted. All I could do was stare at him with conflict in my eyes.
It didn’t seem he was angry, more like he looked betrayed. According to his story, it seemed Sven’s parents were just as strange as him. I get it that his father threw him deep into the forest to survive all alone. It was not like His Grace, my father didn’t make his children kill each other to teach us about survival.
"So, what is it like?" I asked, putting a pause to his ramblings as he looked back at me. "Back in your place. What was it like?"
He blinked and stared at me as if he couldn’t believe his ears. He didn’t point it out, though.
"Back in Ronmin?" he hummed, looking up.
A subtle smile resurfaced on his face and I knew that very moment Ronmin was a great place. I would never have that look in his eyes every time I would think of this place.
"It’s nice. We’re close to nature and mind our own business." His voice was incredibly low, but gentle. "Although it is a vast island surrounded by dense trees, everyone almost knew everyone. We all had close ties with each other and with a huge family like ours, things can be a little chaotic. But it was fun, nonetheless."
"Man... I kinda miss everyone," he added and sighed.
"If you miss them, why don’t you return?" I asked, and he cast me a knowing look.
"Because I’m not done traveling the world?" He shrugged. "Also, if I returned, that means I won’t be able to get out of that place again. They’d probably locked me until I promised to stay."
I stared at him in silence, observing his demeanor. From starting until now, I didn’t see any vestige of a lie in his story. If anything, all I could sense from him was honesty. It was a little surprising that his family would restrict him from going away. I expected them to be more understanding, but then again, I wouldn’t blame them.
With Sven’s personality, he might just die without him knowing. He was just too free-spirited and lacked caution. Even if he was strong, the strongest wasn’t always the one who stood victorious since there were other means to win. I knew that since that was how I lived and survived — adding value to my existence it would be a shame to have me killed.
"They can wait. Vampires can live for as long as they want unless they got themselves killed. Although werewolves aged, we still live longer than normal humans. So, I have time."As usual, he made things sound so easy and light.
I pursed my lips and peeled my eyes away from him. I watched the street and the busy crowd, smiling at the thought that I felt like I was transported to a different place with the mood in this small yet warm town.
"When will you leave the duchy?" I asked under my breath, seeing him look at me through my peripheral.
"In... I don’t know?" I frowned and looked back at him, only to see him shrug. "I’m not in a hurry. I’ve been traveling nonstop for a year, so a break isn’t so bad. It’s not like rewriting my journal is that easy."
"Take a break in another place. Even if you’re strong, there were other places you can do that."
"But why?"
"Southcross isn’t a place for that."
"Then what is this place for?"
’For killing.’ I bit my tongue.
That answer could be an exaggeration or not. Honestly, until now, I didn’t know what was this kingdom for and what this duchy was. All I knew was that what we were fighting for and what the clan had been doing was something unworthy to dwell in.
What was there in the fortune? And power? Influence? It wasn’t like I didn’t know their benefits, but more like... aside from being able to do whatever the person in power pleased, what was there in it?
Sven’s life was even more worthwhile to risk everything. Although I wasn’t really sure if he made such a risk of letting duties go to pursue his lifelong dream of traveling the world. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"Hey," he called, and I slowly turned my head to face him squarely. My brow arched as his hand hovered in front of me as he looked at me with caution.
"You’re sulking again," he said, moving his hand with his finger in a pinching position. Before I knew it, he pressed his thumb and index on the corners of my lips and then he stretched them.
"Smile like this. Suits you better." I frowned, but only my eyes as he held the sides of my lips up. "See?"
"Hands off before I cut your arm."
"Goodness — will you look at her? So scary." He clicked his tongue as he retrieved his hand. "Do you always treat people like this? I thought we were friends now, but lo-and-behold, you want to cut my arm!"
"We’re not friends." I rolled my eyes and wiped the corners of my lips. "I don’t have friends."
"Doesn’t mean you don’t have now means you can’t."
"I don’t want to have friends," I stressed sarcastically, snapping my tongue in irritation. "I don’t need it."
"Why is that?"
"I just don’t want or need it."
I ignored his gaze on my side as I kept my eyes ahead. To my dismay, his next words were something that caused my nose to scrunch up as I looked at him with disdain.
"Well, that’s fine with me!" he grinned, wiggling his brows playfully. "It’s not like I want you to be my friend as well."
