Twisted Dreams-Chapter 186 - 159: Wei Ming’s Mission
Night, South Sea, a certain apartment.
Sounds from the bathroom were enough to make one’s face red.
Half an hour later.
A mature, capable woman exuding an air of sophistication stumbled out, clutching the door handle.
She lay on the bed, panting heavily.
Cao Yi pushed open the bathroom door, wearing only his boxers, wiped his hair with a towel, and sat next to the woman with a mischievous smile:
"You’re even more intense than you were in college."
Wei Na glared at him.
Who didn’t know this pervert liked married women?
Wei Na turned over and sat up, took a cigarette out of her pocket, and lit it.
Cao Yi frowned:
"Girls should smoke less."
Wei Na sneered:
"Do you still care about that?"
Cao Yi said:
"Other women walk by with Lancôme, Dior, Givenchy.
You walk by with Yuxi, Huazi, Yuhua Stone."
Wei Na rolled her eyes at him:
"Didn’t stop you from being naughty.
Let’s talk serious business, you need to pay more attention to my brother’s situation."
Wei Ming was under house arrest by the Security Administration.
The higher-ups feared he was being influenced by the Demon Race, so now there are endless psychological tests.
Cao Yi snatched the cigarette stained with lipstick from Wei Na’s mouth and put it in his:
"I don’t know why Zheng Qian is targeting him, but don’t worry, as long as I’m around, no one can touch him."
The Director of the South Sea Public Security Bureau, and also a Senior Administrator of the Security Administration, has that kind of authority.
Even Zheng Qian, the Deputy Director of the Security Administration, has to think twice before making a move against him.
Wei Na sat up and dressed:
"That’s good."
Cao Yi looked at Wei Na’s slender back, suddenly feeling parched, reached out to embrace Wei Na’s slim waist, and whispered in her ear:
"How about we go again?"
Wei Na pushed Cao Yi away and said:
"That will be your reward later, once you help my brother solve his troubles, and Liu Xian is getting off work."
Cao Yi didn’t mind, smiled and said:
"How is he treating you?"
Wei Na said softly:
"He listens to his mother; his mother won’t let him go to my room, not even if it kills him.
After Liu Changgen was admitted to intensive care, his mother had higher demands on Liu Xian. It’s been about a year since I’ve seen him.
This time, I came to the South Sea to see you.
We might not last long before we divorce. His mother wants Liu Xian to marry the Zhang family’s daughter.
Heh, the little girl from the Zhang family just turned eighteen, I don’t know what these big families are thinking."
Wei Na’s tone was casual, but anyone could feel her low status in the Liu family.
Cao Yi also knew that such a proud woman wouldn’t seek him out unless absolutely necessary.
Cao Yi said, slightly surprised:
"I remember Liu Xian pursued you very openly back then."
Wei Na finished dressing, teased and said:
"Liu Xian liked the goddess of the Imperial Capital University of Political Science and Law, not the Wei Na who married him.
Why, does Director Cao still care about me?"
Cao Yi laughed wickedly:
"I’m afraid that after you divorce, I won’t be interested in you.
You know I only like married women, not widows."
Wei Na’s face turned dark, and she swayed her waist as she left.
Cao Yi watched Wei Na’s swaying figure, cursed:
"That vixen!"
Couldn’t help but take out a tissue and tuck it under the covers.
...
Imperial Capital, Security Administration, basement level.
This is the dormitory of the Security Administration.
It is called a dormitory, but it’s no different from an ordinary apartment.
Independent bathroom, with TV and internet, even indoor basketball court, football field, billiard hall, and other entertainment facilities.
The dormitory was built underground mainly for safety.
The administrator dormitory had just been established and welcomed its first resident, surprisingly it was Wei Ming.
Wei Ming’s Demon Sword was confiscated too, and he sat on the bed, feeling gloomy.
He didn’t smoke or drink, and reading novels was his only pleasure.
Having just seen off the psychologist, he wasn’t in the mood to read novels, only stared into space on the bed.
The room door was knocked on.
Wei Ming glanced at the watch.
It’s not meal time yet, who would come at this time?
Since being under house arrest, apart from the colleague delivering meals and psychologist, no one has come here.
Wei Ming got up and opened the door, looked at the amiable old man in front of him holding a standard thermos cup, Wei Ming was stunned, stammered:
"Elder... Elder He."
Elder He smiled and said:
"Aren’t you going to invite me in?"
It finally dawned on Wei Ming, and he quickly stepped aside to let Elder He into the room.
Elder He glanced around the dormitory, tried the air conditioner remote, and nodded with satisfaction:
"Not bad, they didn’t cut corners."
Wei Ming scratched his head:
"Elder He, why are you here?"
Elder He looked Wei Ming up and down, appearing even more satisfied:
"Not bad, I thought you would have some feelings about it, but it seems you’re doing alright."
Wei Ming heard this and curled his lips:
"Who said I didn’t have any feelings?"
Elder He sat down on the sofa, sighed, and said:
"You’ve been helping the Security Administration for months, and yet you’re stuck here. It really is unfair to you."
Wei Ming replied:
"You know that already, so why not let me out?
I’m not sick, and I definitely haven’t been brainwashed by the Demon Race!"
When the Demon Race was mentioned, Elder He’s expression grew serious:
"Tell me everything about the Demon Race in detail.
I can tell the truth from a lie."
Wei Ming sneered:
"The psychologists come every day, why don’t you ask them?
Every day I give what feels like a report, I’ve said everything there is to say."
Elder He chuckled:
"Those psychologists are nothing compared to an old detective like me.
They just come to put on a show for others to see.
I just praised you for having no emotions, and now you’re throwing a tantrum?"
Wei Ming felt a chill in his heart.
Putting on a show for others?
Someone is out to get him?
No wonder he always felt something wasn’t right.
Wei Ming decided to stop being cheeky and told Elder He honestly and thoroughly about what he saw and heard at Changbai Mountain.
Elder He pondered for a moment and then said:
"Do you truly believe the Demon Race means no harm to humans?"
Wei Ming nodded firmly:
"You’re not an Extraordinary, so you don’t understand the weight of the Black Emperor’s words.
A powerhouse of his caliber would never stoop to lying.
Besides, the nature of the Demon Race is pure and kind; they’re nothing like the man-eating monsters they’re made out to be."
After Wei Ming finished speaking, he carefully observed Elder He and softly asked:
"From what you’re saying, do you accept the Demon Race?"
Elder He curled his lips:
"If we can accept foreigners living in Xia Country, why can’t we accept our own country’s native Demon Race?
As long as they don’t disrupt human society, I’m quite willing to coexist peacefully with them.
Who knows, the Demon Race might contribute significantly to Xia Country.
But the Security Administration isn’t ruled by one person; we have to listen to other voices too.
Director Zheng’s views on the Demon Race are quite biased, though they’re not exactly wrong either."
Wei Ming remained silent.
It was Director Zheng who seemed to have been making things difficult for him ever since he returned. Wei Ming suspected Director Zheng was the one trying to get him, but he couldn’t figure out why.
Elder He looked into Wei Ming’s eyes:
"Are you resentful that we’ve confined you here, even though you’re being celebrated like a hero?"
Wei Ming shook his head:
"I come from a sheriff’s background; I understand obedience to orders."
Elder He smiled:
"Good, let me tell you the truth.
Someone in the office doesn’t want you to have an easy time; they’ve already submitted a report to downgrade you to an Intermediate Administrator."
Wei Ming quickly asked:
"And what do you think?"
Elder He said:
"Tomorrow you’ll be demoted to an Intermediate Administrator and sent away from the Imperial Capital."
Wei Ming pulled a long face but found himself at a loss for words.
In the face of those in power above him, what could he, a person with neither power nor influence, do?
Elder He continued:
"However, I’ll arrange for you at the South Sea Safety Management Station.
First, you won’t have to endure the hardship of being confined anymore.
Second, to help me investigate something."
Wei Ming lifted his head, his eyes wide open:
"What is it?"
Elder He narrowed his eyes, a gleam of light in them, and softly said:
"Help me investigate Cao Yi."
Wei Ming cried out:
"Brother Yi?"
Elder He nodded, saying gently:
"The Spiritual Energy Revival began in the South Sea, and the Director of the South Sea Public Security Bureau, Cao Yi, suddenly became an Extraordinary. I still have some unease about it."
Wei Ming understood then that although it appeared he was being demoted, in truth it was an opportunity to go to the South Sea and investigate its secrets during the guise of a demotion.
Elder He continued:
"Do you know why you were chosen?
You were originally a sheriff in the South Sea, so you’re quite familiar with it.
Moreover, Cao Yi seems to care a lot about you. This morning, he even pleaded with me to release you.
We might as well do him a favor.
Can you complete the task?"
Wei Ming thought silently:
Perhaps it’s also to do a favor for some leader at the office.
Though he thought that way, after all, this was a chance to climb the ladder.
Wei Ming stood up, saluted, and solemnly said:
"I guarantee the task will be completed!"
