Ultimate Village Doctor-Chapter 97 - 99: Qin Yous Matter
Qin You commanded her subordinates to carry the six kidnappers onto the vehicle.
Turning her head, she glanced at Long Xiaoshan, and then at Gu Jingheng, and asked, "Mr. Gu, we’ll need to trouble you to come back with us to give a statement."
"No problem, it’s our duty as citizens to cooperate with the police," Gu Jingheng said.
Along with Xiaoshan, they got into Qin You’s car.
To conceal Gu Jingheng’s identity, Qin You had the other police officers cram into other cars.
Curiously sizing up Xiaoshan, Gu Jingheng asked, "Captain Qin, this young brother is my lifesaver. He claims to be just a simple farmer, but I don’t believe that."
"Him? He’s a troublemaker," said Qin You, irritated.
"Sister Qin, when did I become a troublemaker?" Xiaoshan said with a smile, having changed how he addressed her now that they were alone.
"Not a troublemaker? Every time I come across you, there’s nothing good," Qin You huffed.
Gu Jingheng watched the two banter and smiled slightly.
It seemed that their relationship was not ordinary.
No wonder his father said the mainland was full of hidden dragons and crouching tigers. Even such a remote small county had its remarkable people.
Seeing Xiaoshan’s age, he was young enough to be his son.
It would be wise to befriend such an extraordinary person.
Gu Jingheng was very good at networking. In no time, through lively conversation, he became familiar with both Qin You and Xiaoshan.
When they arrived at the station,
Qin You recorded a separate statement from each of them.
Gu Jingheng claimed he was visiting friends in Hechuan City and happened to hear that the cuisine at the Lily Hotel was very distinctive and healthy, which piqued his interest to visit. However, he encountered an accident and was hijacked by the van.
Listening to this, Xiaoshan was speechless.
All the dishes at the Lily Hotel were supplied by him.
Speaking of which, Gu Jingheng’s kidnapping was somewhat related to him.
After recording the statements, Qin You led the two out and said, "Mr. Gu, I will now escort you to the hotel."
"No need, I’ve already contacted someone to pick me up," Gu Jingheng replied.
At the entrance of the police station was parked a black Mercedes-Benz with military plates, its windows completely tinted.
At the doorway stood a soldier in uniform, armed and ready.
Upon seeing Gu Jingheng emerge, he saluted.
Qin You was secretly shocked; this Gu Jingheng had such a high profile that he could even summon the military.
"Director Qin, thank you for your trouble," said Gu Jingheng to Qin You first, and then, taking Xiaoshan by the arm, added, "Brother Xiaoshan, it’s late today. Tomorrow I’ll host a meal; you must honor me with your presence."
"It’s nothing, just lending a hand. You’re too polite, Brother Gu," Xiaoshan replied.
"No, tomorrow you must do me the honor, let’s settle on that," Gu Jingheng insisted, giving Xiaoshan’s hand a firm shake before getting into the car.
Xiaoshan watched the Mercedes-Benz drive away.
To Qin You he said, "Sister Qin, I’ll be taking my leave as well."
"You, wait a minute," Qin You said.
"Sister Qin, is there anything else?"
"If I say wait, then wait. Don’t you leave," Qin You snapped, turning her head away, her cheeks slightly flushed.
Qin You went back into the station to deal with some matters before coming out.
Seeing that Xiaoshan was waiting outside, Qin You said, "Take me home."
"Yes, Madam," Xiaoshan saluted and replied.
"Smooth-talking," Qin You got into the pickup truck.
Long Xiaoshan started the vehicle and drove seven or eight minutes under Qin You’s direction, arriving at a neighborhood; it was a police residential compound that looked somewhat timeworn.
"Come up with me," Qin You said after getting out of the vehicle and quickly went upstairs.
Long Xiaoshan, having no choice, got out and followed Qin You up.
Upon opening the door to a third-floor apartment, Qin You walked in, with Long Xiaoshan following. He put on a pair of slippers that Qin You threw to him and looked around the room. It was a modest two-bedroom apartment, revealing Qin You’s simple lifestyle.
There was no one else in the apartment.
Long Xiaoshan approached the sofa and asked, "Is your brother not at home?"
He asked instinctively, aware of Qin You’s past pregnancy.
Qin You’s expression changed slightly, and she sat down in silence.
The atmosphere seemed to grow heavier.
Long Xiaoshan immediately felt he had made a mistake; Qin You’s expression said it all. But he didn’t know the specifics—whether Qin You was divorced or something else.
Just as he was unsure what to say, Qin You took the initiative to speak, "He’s dead."
"Ah," Long Xiaoshan exhaled softly, quickly apologizing, "I’m sorry, Sister Qin, I didn’t know."
Qin You waved her hand, "It’s okay."
Qin You lifted her head, stared at the ceiling for a moment, and then continued, "We met at the police academy; he was my senior. Later on, he came to Niuyi County, and I was assigned here as well. He has always been kind to me since he was my predecessor, and gradually we got together. The detective squad was always busy, and we only got married last year when he had already become a captain. I took time off at home because I was pregnant, but then, half a year ago, something happened. He died under unclear circumstances. The department said he died in the line of duty, accidentally shot by a petty criminal. Despite arresting the criminal, I don’t believe it; I find it suspicious.
I came back to the squad, and probably because of his influence, I was compensated by getting promoted to fill his spot and became a captain. I’ve been wanting to investigate the cause of his death, but due to overexertion, I miscarried."
"Sister Qin, my deepest condolences," Long Xiaoshan said, not knowing how else to comfort her.
Who would have thought that this striking and valiant beauty of a bureau chief had such a sorrowful story behind her.
"Offering condolences?"
Qin You suddenly let out a mocking laugh.
"Sister Qin, what’s wrong?" Long Xiaoshan felt there was more to her words.
"Forget it, it’s not your business."
Qin You didn’t continue.
Another silence followed.
Because Qin You had mentioned those unfortunate matters, Long Xiaoshan didn’t know how to continue the conversation.
Fidgeting, he really wanted to take his leave.
But he felt Qin You wouldn’t have called him up without a reason, so he asked, "Sister Qin, is there anything else?"
It was then that Qin You remembered she had asked Long Xiaoshan to come up for a reason. She didn’t know why, but she had shared those things with Long Xiaoshan, perhaps because she had no one else to confide in, or maybe, this simple farmer inexplicably gave her a sense of kinship.
And besides, they had been in close contact during the last treatment.
Qin You’s cheeks flushed, and her heroic facade suddenly became enchantingly beautiful. For someone as cold and stunning as her to suddenly show shyness was ever more captivating, making even Long Xiaoshan’s heart race.
"Yes, it’s like this. Last time you treated me, I want to see if it’s healed," Qin You said.
Upon hearing that this was the matter, Long Xiaoshan quickly responded, "No problem at all."
Confident in his medicine, he had never mentioned a follow-up check to Qin You. Now that Qin You had brought it up herself, he naturally agreed.
Qin You took a deep breath.
Her hand moved to undo the buttons on her shirt.
"Sister Qin, what are you doing?" Long Xiaoshan asked.

"Isn’t it for the checkup?" Qin You remembered the scene of the last treatment and spoke shyly.
"No need, no need to take off your clothes for the follow-up."
"Ah!"
Qin You’s face blushed furiously, as if she wanted to burrow into the ground.
She had actually started to unbutton her clothes on her own initiative.
