…
Looking at the gleam in Kanae's eyes, Kevin chuckled. Ever since a long time ago, Kanae has always loved to eat. It was no different this time too, as she would still prefer to eat even during a party.
"It'll do no good to eat too much, so let's just take some cakes and we'll walk out to the verandah."
"That's a good idea."
The two of them walked to the dessert table and took several cakes before they walked out to the verandah. The party itself would still take some time before it would end, so they didn't have to worry. Since they had already met almost everyone that they needed to talk with, they could stay out for as long as they wanted.
*nom*
"It's good," Kanae commented after she had swallowed the piece of cake.
Kevin nodded. "Do you plan to try baking cake again?"
"Uh…" The last time she baked a cake, Neo had complained that there were pieces of egg shells mixed inside. The cake also didn't inflate well and ended up quite flat. Thankfully, the kitchen was not a mess since she had learned bit by bit how to use it.
Kanae put another piece of cake to her mouth. "Not now."
"I can ask Alice to come over again to help out."
"Isn't she busy because of the new business that she has started?" Kanae asked. From what she knew, Alice decided to start a medicine related business, which meant that she was quite busy. After all, Alice was taking a medicine related course while starting up the business.
It was still in the early stage for now, but Kanae was sure that Alice wouldn't have the time to visit.
"If you want, I'm sure she'll be willing to make the time."
"Nah, it's not that important. I'm sure that I'll be swamped with more paperwork tomorrow because of today's meeting too."
Kevin nodded. He was thinking about the work tomorrow when he saw a piece of cake appearing before his eyes. Kanae was holding her fork with the piece of cake at the end of it. She grinned when she saw his gaze.
"Want some?"
"Sure."
Putting the cake into his mouth, Kevin chewed slowly. He watched with a smile as Kanae had put another piece of cake into her mouth. No matter how much Kanae ate each day, she didn't seem to be growing fatter. It seemed as if all the food was converted into energy, which she used fully every day.
"Are you hungry, Kevin?"
"Not really," Kevin replied. He looked at Kanae with his eyebrows raised. "Are you still hungry?"
"A little."
"Let's go eat dinner after the party."
"Ok."
For the next half an hour, Kanae finished the cakes in the plate and shared some to Kevin. Afterwards, they walked back inside and excused themselves. There were already some other guests who went back. Many were busy businessmen, so they wouldn't stay long in this place because they had work to do.
"Let's go."
"Hey, Brats! Where are you going?" Patrick asked as he walked over. From his jubilant mood, it seemed that he managed to ask some clan members to have a spar with him later.
The two of them silently lit a candle for those unfortunate people who got conned by Patrick.
"We're going to have dinner."
"Count me in….!"
"You should go and have fun with your sparring partner, Uncle. I'm going first."
Kevin pulled Kanae's hand to the street. Neo was looking from behind with bewilderment. Should he take the car or not? But seeing the two of them had already wandered on the street, Neo knew that the two of them didn't want to be followed.
"If you don't follow them, they'll disappear soon," Patrick remarked.
Neo rolled his eyes. "If they want to, I won't be able to find them even if I hack the satellite."
"Tsk, he should have cared more for his well-being."
Neo: "…" those who want to seek trouble with these two had better hoped that they were not digging their own graves. The best result that they would get from offending these two would be to spend a week in the hospital.
Kanae and Kevin didn't walk too far. Kevin brought her to a small restaurant that was located near the hotel. The location was quite strategic, but it was not that crowded because there were several other restaurants. However, the two of them knew that it was a good place to eat.
"Table for two, please."
"Over here, Mr."
The two of them took the seat near the window as the waiter handed the menu. Kanae scanned the list and made her decision.
"Noodles soup and orange juice."
"Fried rice and a glass of water."
"Anything else?"
"No."
The waiter walked away and Kanae watched the night view from the window. From this place, she could see the glamour of the city as there were different lights and decorations. It was only a few months after the last battle, but the city had changed so much.
Kevin noticed her gaze. "Are you missing your time wandering on the street?"
"Not really," Kanae replied. She turned her head to Kevin with a smile on her face. She was happy with her current life where she could help out in the clan and took care of some businesses. Though, attending parties might be one of the few things that she disliked.
"We can have a spar if you want later."
"Uh, no. You're just going to tire me out before launching a surprise attack," Kanae refused.
Kevin chuckled a bit. The two of them chatted about some other things until the food arrived. They quickly started to eat their food. Even though Kanae had already eaten a lot of cakes earlier, there was still a lot of space for the noodles inside her stomach.
"Is it good?" Kevin asked.
Kanae nodded. "Want some?"
"Sure."
At the same time Kanae used her chopstick to bring the noodles to her mouth, Kevin took a scoop from the side. He chewed lightly, tasting the saltiness that came from the noodles.
Tug.
One strand of the noodles stretched from Kevin's mouth to Kanae's. It seemed that they had accidentally eaten the same strand. Just as Kanae was about to bite it, she saw Kevin leaned in.
Their lips met with each other and the strand snapped in the middle. After a few seconds, Kevin pulled back with a grin on his face. Kanae was glaring at him with her face flushed red.
"We're in public!" Kanae said in clear annoyance.
Kevin smirked. "So it means that it's fine if we're doing it in private."
"That's not the point!"
"Relax, no one is watching."
Kanae pursed her lips. There were only a few customers in the restaurant, who were also busy eating their meal. However, Kanae still disliked the fact that he just had to pull that stunt here.
Her hand quickly moved to finish the food before Kevin could pull the same stunt again.
"Done?" Kevin asked, amused that Kanae finished her food so fast.
"Yeah. Let's go back."
Kevin extended his hand and Kanae grabbed it. The two of them stood up from their chair and walked out of the restaurant. Kevin noticed a tug at his sleeve when they were already a few metres away from the restaurant.
He looked at Kanae and bent down a bit. "What is…."
Chu!
A kiss landed on his cheek. He could see Kanae grinning in front of him as his body was frozen due to her sudden attack.
"It's my revenge," Kanae said and stuck out her tongue. She pulled Kevin's hand as she began to walk. "Come on, Father will end up beating the poor person to his grave if we don't hurry back."
Kevin smiled bitterly at Kanae's reasoning. However, his eyes were clearly smiling.
'Revenge, huh? If it's like this, I don't mind if she does it every day.'
Of course, he would not say it out loud because he was sure that she would give him a different kind of revenge if he dared to say it.
