Unexpected Marriage: She is the Sugar Mommy!-Chapter 299: Introduction
Eric Holt?
Why does this name feel somewhat familiar?
As if I’ve heard it somewhere before?
Seraphina Sinclair thought hard, but couldn’t figure it out.
The appearance of Eric Holt attracted everyone’s attention, more than the auction itself.
Voices of various discussions emerged around her, as Seraphina watched Eric on the stage, feeling that he was not a simple person. Despite the distance, she could still sense the ambition and desire ready to burst from his eyes.
His sudden appearance this time must mean he’s not just acting as the second son of the Fairchild Family.
"What are you thinking about? So lost in thought?" Rosalie Quinn called out to Seraphina Sinclair.
Seraphina snapped back, shook her head slightly: "Nothing."
After Old Mrs. Fairchild introduced Eric, the host finally began the event.
Today’s auction had attracted quite a crowd, with a variety of odd items up for bidding.
Seraphina and her group had also submitted items for the auction, not particularly valuable, but enough for charity.
Shannon Warren and her daughter were incredibly noisy, chatting incessantly behind them.
Fiona Dunn was annoyed, nearly turning around to tell them to keep quiet.
They’ve stepped into high society, yet lack basic manners?
Seraphina had no interest in the initial auction items, which were all bracelets, rings, and other jewelry, things she had in abundance with no collectible value.
"Next up is this Purple Gold Tea Pot; though it’s a modern product, its craftsmanship is exquisite, and the materials are extraordinary, perfect for tea enthusiasts. The starting bid is thirty thousand, with a minimum increment of five thousand each time."
Thirty thousand isn’t expensive.
A purely handcrafted piece with such materials and workmanship, thirty thousand is still worthwhile.
Seraphina remembered how Old Mrs. Fairchild had a fondness for such curious items, so she made the first bid: "Fifty thousand."
An increase of twenty thousand at once, which is astronomical for ordinary people, was just a drop in the ocean for Seraphina.
After her bid, Shannon Warren’s excited voice came from behind: "Sixty thousand."
"Seventy thousand," Seraphina calmly raised her paddle.
Shannon Warren seemed to be set against Seraphina, immediately raising her paddle: "Eighty thousand."
The two kept increasing by ten thousand each, quickly driving the price up to three hundred and twenty thousand.
Seraphina seemed unwilling, gritting her teeth and raising her paddle once more: "Five hundred thousand!"
Everyone looked at Seraphina with sympathetic eyes, even Rosalie Quinn advised her: "Darling, this Purple Gold Tea Pot is already remarkable at two to three hundred thousand, no need to waste money on such an item, is there?"
She knew Seraphina had plenty of money, not missing this few hundred thousand, but there was no point in wasting it, right?
Seraphina’s lips curled slightly, smiling with a hint of implication: "It’s not like I have money and nowhere to spend it."
"One million!" Shannon Warren, not short of cash herself, boldly raised the bid directly to one million.
A million for a small tea pot? Surely that person is out of their mind?
The sympathetic looks shifted from Seraphina to Shannon Warren.
Shannon Warren had thought that after her bid, Seraphina would be unwilling and challenge her, but to her surprise, Seraphina turned with a slightly regretful look: "It seems Miss Warren is determined to get this teapot; I wouldn’t want to snatch it away from you."
"Good that you know." Shannon Warren thought Seraphina was scared, feeling exceptionally proud, like a peacock displaying its feathers.
"One million once, one million twice, one million thrice! Sold!" The host merrily announced to Shannon Warren, "Congratulations to this lady for acquiring the Purple Gold Tea Pot, please proceed to the back after the auction for payment and retrieval."
Shannon Warren was very pleased to have outbid Seraphina, unaware that she had wasted seven to eight hundred thousand on the teapot.
If someone who loves antiques had spent that one million, it would have been different, but Shannon Warren isn’t the type to appreciate art. If she knew the original price of that Purple Gold Tea Pot, she might just burst with anger.
"I never thought someone could be so foolish as to spend tens of thousands extra on a teapot and still puff up with pride, it’s quite amusing." Fiona Dunn nearly died laughing, seeing Shannon Warren and her daughter acting like they’d never seen the world.
Fiona Dunn wasn’t alone in thinking this way; in the room, none who knew Shannon Warren and her daughter’s background held them in regard.
After all, they were country folk, with a rustic air that couldn’t be masked by words or actions, making them seem out of place among the nobility here.
"Keep your voice down, don’t let anyone hear you, or you’ll be the one getting laughed at," Rosalie Quinn quietly reminded Fiona, insisting on maintaining decorum even while chuckling, unlike in their family quarters.
Fiona stuck out her tongue and sat properly.
Rosalie was right; she absolutely couldn’t tarnish the reputation of the Dunn Family outside, no matter what she had to present herself well.
Shannon Warren had no idea what others were thinking at this moment, still basking in the joy of her triumph over Seraphina, smugly instructing Wendy Warren: "You go pay later."
"Huh?" Wendy Warren opened her mouth, biting her lip in grievance, "But, but I don’t have a million."
"Useless thing, do you think I don’t know the pocket money Dad gives you? Crying poor to me here?" Shannon Warren said as she grabbed and pinched Wendy’s arm, her eyes filled with jealousy, "So, are you going to pay or not?"
Wendy’s flesh was pinched together, and she winced in pain, almost crying as she replied, "But you already took all my money, I really don’t have a million."
Shannon Warren’s mother was displeased too, accusing, "Wendy, your aunt has been nice to you, and all we’re asking is a mere million, yet you hesitate. Isn’t that too much?"
"Auntie, but I really don’t have money." Wendy was on the verge of tears; her money had long been deducted, leaving her penniless.
No matter how she pleaded, Shannon and her mother wouldn’t listen. Shannon arrogantly commanded, "You better pay later, understood? If you dare to refuse and embarrass me in front of everyone, you’ll regret it when we get home."
Wendy bit her lip, a hint of defiance in her eyes, but quickly reverted to a submissive demeanor, too scared of being hit to do anything but nod: "I, I understand, sister."
"That’s better." Shannon was satisfied with her answer, smiling contentedly.
Despite their small commotion, Seraphina heard it clearly with her keen ears, her brow furrowing and her expression darkening.
She initially competed with Shannon to see her falter but hadn’t anticipated Shannon making Wendy pay. The shamelessness was appalling.
Rosalie gently squeezed her hand, whispering: "We should stay out of other people’s business."
