Unexpected Marriage: She is the Sugar Mommy!-Chapter 329: Love Is Not a One-Person Affair
Women aren’t always easy to deal with, especially someone like Seraphina Sinclair, who’s beautiful and capable, with strong principles.
Though the reasons were varied when Seraphina and Desmond Fairchild separated initially, thinking she could be coaxed back with just a few words now is dreaming.
Seraphina didn’t understand what exactly Desmond took her for. Needing her beck and call when convenient, kicking her away when not needed—is this how he treats his girlfriend?
The pain she suffered, Desmond couldn’t begin to understand.
Thinking of this, Seraphina’s expression grew darker, her nose tinged red, nearly bringing her to tears.
For some reason, recalling those past events, she felt immensely aggrieved.
She is indeed strong, but she’s also fragile, needing Desmond’s care and love, wishing to stand by his side and face everything together.
But these are things Desmond still doesn’t understand.
"Seraphina, I’m sorry, I truly know I was wrong. Can you forgive me?" Seeing the tears threatening to fall from Seraphina’s eyes, Desmond suddenly panicked, abandoning all pretense and softening immediately.
In front of Seraphina, he’s never the cold, unfeeling president of Cloudsea Group, but a man who loves her, wants to pamper her for a lifetime.
"What’s that to do with you?" Seraphina sniffed, not wanting to pay him any attention.
"I know I’ve done many things before that upset you, and I know now perhaps you won’t believe anything I say, but I can use time and actions to prove I haven’t changed my love for you. And I’ve never had any physical contact with other women either, except those I’d deliberately show you—no intimacy at all. I swear I’m telling the truth."
It was the first time Desmond had patiently explained these things to a woman; he was genuinely afraid of losing Seraphina.
These days, as Seraphina kept him at a distance, his heart ached just as much.
There wasn’t a day he’d felt good when he hurt Seraphina before.
These are things he didn’t like to say out loud. He only hoped Seraphina is safe and happy, and he’d be content.
Desmond’s deep gaze fixed on Seraphina, his eyes like the sea threatening to pull you in.
Seraphina met his stare and could clearly feel the sincerity in his words.
He wasn’t lying.
But Seraphina herself couldn’t accept the feeling of being so controlled now; she felt extremely uncomfortable.
"Desmond, I hope you understand, love isn’t just about you. The things you think are good for me, you’ve never asked whether I wanted them. There are too many issues between us; let’s both calm down first." Seraphina took a deep breath and gave Desmond an earnest reply.
They were tangled together for so long; even though he’d often said he wanted to let go, she herself knew clearly she couldn’t let Desmond go.
If so, let’s both give each other another chance.
If Desmond can seize this opportunity, they can continue.
Receiving such a definite answer from Seraphina, Desmond was naturally happy.
Although not outright success, wasn’t Seraphina’s meaning obviously giving him a chance?
As long as she didn’t continue to keep him at a distance like before, he always had a chance of winning her back.
"Okay, I’ll do as you say, but you can’t refuse my right to pursue you." Desmond had to confirm this clearly.
Seraphina nodded slightly: "Then it depends on how you do."
If they both can grow from this, everything remains possible.
"No matter what, I won’t let you go to someone else." Desmond’s thin lips curved up as he held Seraphina’s cold little hand.
Seraphina initially wanted to pull away, but with Desmond’s strong grip, she couldn’t break free and had to let him hold her.
The road to the mountains was very far, taking several hours, and Seraphina fell asleep out of exhaustion on the highway.
Recently, after being discharged from the hospital, there were too many things to handle, be it work or family, all needing attention, and her daily rest was only about four to five hours. Her health was already poor, and poor sleep made her more susceptible to illness.
Desmond was somewhat helpless, pulling out a small blanket to cover Seraphina.
He had prepared this beforehand, fearing she might want to sleep on the way.
Vicky couldn’t help but chuckle: "Weren’t you mumbling all the way that you wouldn’t pamper sis-in-law? Pretending not to care but showing it?"
Though he spoke softly, Desmond’s ears were sharp and heard it clearly.
He used eye gestures to warn Quentin; if he dared say another word to disturb Seraphina’s rest, his trip to Africa was likely imminent.
Quentin understood tacitly, mimicking a zipper motion over his mouth, daring not to tease Desmond anymore.
Someone like Quentin, if not incredibly competent, Desmond would have likely kicked out long ago.
Of course, if someone didn’t have Quentin’s caliber, they wouldn’t dare speak to Desmond in such a manner.
Cloudsea Group always valued competence, never letting anyone get a free pass just because they were some distinguished young master or lady.
Even someone as illustrious as Quentin, step by step climbed to the position he’s in today through merit; despite being childhood friends with Desmond, never once did Desmond give him any shortcuts.
The long journey finally neared its end, yet Seraphina still lay asleep.
"Master Fairchild, should we wake her?" Quentin mouthed the question.
Desmond shook his head: "No need."
He was about to reach over to carry Seraphina up, but the moment he touched her cold cheek, she awoke instantly, showing how light her sleep usually was.
Her clear eyes held some confusion; after realizing, she adjusted her position, cautiously looking at Desmond: "What do you want to do?"
"Just noticed you were sleeping soundly, didn’t want to wake you. Now that you’re awake, you can get off." Desmond hadn’t expected Seraphina to be so cautious of him, a feeling indescribable inside.
"We arrived?" Seraphina then realized the car had long since shut off and halted by the roadside, and Quentin had already disembarked, waiting nearby.
Seraphina was just preparing to stand when she noticed the blanket on her, her face slightly flushing, she spoke to Desmond: "Thank you."
"We need to hurry; it’ll be dark soon. If we want to get back early, we must finish things before dark." Desmond extended his hand to help Seraphina out of the car.
Seraphina didn’t refuse, obediently placing her hand in Desmond’s palm.
He was right; they needed to finish things quickly.
She certainly didn’t want to spend the night here alone with Desmond.
Though it was only September, the mountain weather was clearly colder than the city.
