Unholy Player-Chapter 101: Power Ranking (Part 4)
Chapter 101: Power Ranking (Part 4)
Following Corven’s lead, Adyr found himself in a room larger than the previous one. The floor and walls appeared to be made of reinforced black metal—thick, industrial, and designed to withstand impact. As with the other testing chamber, the room was monitored from behind a reinforced observation window, where a control lab and a wall of monitors stood behind thick glass.
At the center of the room stood a structure Adyr didn’t immediately recognize by material, but its purpose was clear. It was some sort of impact target, meant to measure raw force. The surface was matte gray, mounted to the ground with thick steel springs that anchored it in place. The entire structure had an elastic, shock-absorbing design, built to absorb and record tremendous physical blows without breaking.
"It’s as simple as it looks, Mr. Adyr. Just use your strength and strike the target. Three hits in total—we’ll take the highest one as your score," Corven explained plainly.
"Okay," Adyr replied, then paused for a moment before asking, "Can I use my Spark abilities?"
His tone was calm, his face unreadable. But the moment he spoke those words, the entire research team froze. A few even dropped their notebooks.
Even Victor was stunned. "You have a Spark?" he asked from behind the glass, his voice coming through the microphone, eyes wide.
Victor himself had become an evolver, but the Spark he had evolved with was his first—and even that had taken an enormous amount of effort to find and capture. He didn’t have the energy reserves to subdue another, and truthfully, he wasn’t even confident he’d be able to find a second one anytime soon, let alone gather enough energy crystals to subdue it.
And now, standing in front of him, Adyr had casually revealed that he had not only evolved but had already subdued another Spark and was ready to use its power.
"Yeah," Adyr said with a small smile, taking note of Victor’s reaction.
So he evolved but doesn’t have a spare Spark to subdue, Adyr thought.
While the researchers stood frozen in stunned silence, Corven finally spoke.
"Please, Mr. Adyr—use your Spark."
He wasn’t just allowing it, he was practically begging for it. This would be their first time witnessing an active Spark ability. More than that, it would be the first visual and recorded data of a Spark skill in action, a moment that would likely end up in scientific journals, training manuals, and history books alike.
The thought alone made the research team begin to tremble with anticipation.
"Okay," Adyr said, amused, quietly watching all their reactions.
"Then we can start immediately," Corven replied, and without wasting another second, he exited the room and sealed the door behind him, joining the others behind the observation glass.
"You may begin whenever you’re ready."
Adyr gave a small nod in confirmation, but before proceeding, he stopped by the Dawn Land and siphoned energy from one of the crystals using his energy body. He needed fuel to activate his skills.
Then let’s start with Pulse Hopper, he thought. frёewebηovel.cѳm
Pulse Hopper’s skill, Burst Hop, was designed to take full control of the leg muscles, stretching them to their absolute limit before releasing them in a violent burst. The result: a shockwave-generating kick. It was originally a movement skill, but with the right timing and technique, it would hit just as hard as any attack ability.
Adyr paused for a moment. This would be his first time using the skill, and he needed to execute it perfectly. He visualized the entire motion in his mind, every muscle, every shift of weight, every pulse of energy, then moved.
He slid one leg back, turning his hips and raising his arms into a textbook Muay Thai stance. His weight dropped into his planted foot, and the other leg tensed like a coiled spring. As he activated the skill, consuming 0.1 energy, his leg exploded forward in a diagonal arc.
BOOM!
As soon as Adyr’s kick connected with the target, a shockwave rippled outward.
"What the..." Corven and the others stared with wide eyes.
They hadn’t clearly seen the motion—it had happened too fast—but as experienced researchers, the sound and data fluctuations told them everything they needed to know.
Adyr’s kick had broken the sound barrier, creating a localized shockwave on impact.
"What the fuck, bro? Are you even human anymore?" Victor looked at him in disbelief. His face wasn’t just stunned—it was a mix of shock, pride, and excitement.
First, he was genuinely proud. Seeing how far Adyr had come validated everything he’d always believed about himself. Adyr had always been more talented—his only shortcoming had been access to resources.
The excitement, though, came from something else. The Spark skill had looked incredibly cool. Now Victor was itching to dive back into the game, catch a Spark of his own, and subdue it just to unlock a skill like that.
"I’m ready for the next attack," Adyr said.
"Yes, please," Corven replied quickly, snapping out of his shock with a spark of excitement. He was expecting the same kick again. The more kicks, the more data, and he welcomed it. But what he saw next left him speechless.
Adyr didn’t move to kick. Instead, he simply raised his finger and pointed it at the target like a weapon. A moment later, a faint beam of light began to form at the tip, vibrating with a low, steady frequency.
"What is that?" one of the researchers asked, his mouth slightly open.
Adyr smiled and answered, "Another Spark ability. This one generates a sound wave."
This time, he was using Echo Screamer’s ability, Sonic Burst. Rather than the rapid-fire mode that consumed 0.1 energy per shot, he was opting for the alternate feature, charging energy for a single, high-powered burst.
"Bro, are you insane? You really caught 3 Sparks? What are you even doing in the game, training for a 1-human-versus-100-gorillas tournament?" Victor asked, completely stunned.
He had expected Adyr to be successful, of course—but this successful? He was speechless.
Adyr chuckled, then charged 0.5 energy, thinking it would be enough—too much could be dangerous. With a sharp flick, he released the energy concentrated at his fingertip.
The burst shot forward faster than the eye could track, completely silent—until it struck.
BOOM!
The sound this time was far louder than his earlier kick, and the damage left no room for doubt.
At the center of the target, the elastic material designed to absorb impact had torn open, leaving a wide hole. Beneath it, the reinforced metal core had crumpled inward, bent and crushed like a tin can.
"This..." Corven couldn’t find the words.
That target had been built to withstand the raw power of an STF mutant—and more. Yet now, looking at its ruined form, he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
It looked like it had been hit with a high-explosive RPG—only more focused, more precise.
"I think this is enough. I don’t need to use my third attempt," Adyr said, satisfied. Besides, the testing chamber didn’t have enough structural protection for a fully charged Sonic Burst anyway, and this much power was more than enough.
Upon hearing his words, the researchers collectively exhaled. They weren’t sure whether to be disappointed they wouldn’t witness another display of power or relieved at the thought that perhaps Adyr had no other Sparks and was still within the realm of human limitation.
What they didn’t know was that Adyr did, in fact, possess another Spark—Null Maggot. But since it didn’t provide a direct attack skill, there was no point in using it here. Not yet.
