Chapter 302: Chapter 302: All Debts to Me Must Be Repaid (Part 5)

"What is this?" Qin Jinhao stepped back, covering his mouth, his eyes filled with vigilance and tension.

Mu Qingge curled her lips, her smile enchanting: "Just an interesting little trinket."

A dark light shot from her hand, swiftly entering Qin Jinhao’s mouth. The elixir melted instantly, leaving him no chance to spit it out.

"Ah—!" A sudden, excruciating pain, like ten thousand ants devouring him, his meridians felt as though they were breaking inch by inch, causing Qin Jinhao to let out a wail. His hands clawed ruthlessly at his skin, as if trying to drag out the ants beneath it.

In no time, the handsome face that had once beguiled Mu Qingge’s former self was a bloody mess, with no unmarred flesh left on his body.

Mu Lianrong watched, her heart trembling, while Mu Qingge remained calm as she turned and walked out of the Imperial Study Room.

In his struggle, Qin Jinhao looked toward the Imperial Jade Seal on the table with resentment. The torment of his body was less agonizing than the shattered dream. He was so close, it should have been within his grasp. Yet now he was cast down from the clouds.

"Mu Qingge, you’re so ruthless!" Qin Jinhao’s voice erupted with a mournful malice.

Outside the Imperial Study Room, the Mu Family Army was washing the bloodstains from the steps. The first rays of sunlight were rising, dispersing the night. Mu Qingge took a deep breath and said to Mu Lianrong, who had followed her out: "Aunt, once he breathes his last, cut off his head. I’m going to see Prince Xian."

Mu Lianrong nodded, watching Mu Qingge leave.

...

Wanxia Palace, its tranquility became the only sanctuary within the Imperial Palace.

When Mu Qingge arrived, the hall was empty. Only that tall and slender figure in goose yellow stood at the entrance, facing the wind, gazing at the orange sunrise.

Golden light danced on the glazed tiles, radiating brilliance, yet it could not dispel the solitude and silence that enveloped him. Only when the orange glow enveloped him, did a hint of warmth enter his eyes, so defined in black and white.

Beauty like a painting, Mu Qingge never denied Qin Jinchen’s handsomeness.

Yet, she didn’t quite like the aura of calm that shrouded him.

She walked over, the sound of armor lightly resonating, startling Qin Jinchen, who stood on the steps outside the hall.

He slowly turned his gaze, his calm eyes falling on Mu Qingge, giving no hint of emotion.

"How is Consort Yun?" Mu Qingge stepped onto the steps, standing beside him.

Speaking of the person who weighed heavily in his life, a flicker finally appeared in Qin Jinchen’s gaze. He slowly lowered his eyes, his lashes shielding them from Mu Qingge’s probing sight: "My mother is saddened beyond measure, losing Lianlian is something she can’t easily accept. But I’m still here, and I’ll stay by her side."

Mu Qingge glanced at him, then turned her gaze to the sunrise: "You’re a strange one, clearly with an air of detachment from the world, yet your heart is so full of ties. Since you can’t let go, why act indifferent?"

Qin Jinchen’s lips curved slightly: "I’ve grown used to it."

Used to it? Those three simple words made Mu Qingge think of many things.

Perhaps, it was Qin Jinchen’s heritage and childhood that shaped him. Perhaps, she should be grateful he didn’t become a ruthless person because of it, adding yet another enemy to her list today.

"Qin Jinhao is dead, the Imperial Jade Seal is in the Imperial Study Room." Mu Qingge said.

Qin Jinchen showed no excitement, simply responding: "I told you, I won’t take that position."

"Suit yourself. After all, it’s your Qin Family’s kingdom." Mu Qingge said with indifference. She looked at Qin Jinchen seriously and said, "But I only trust you."
