Unrivaled Soldier in the City-Chapter 30 - s Safe Return
Seeing Lin Kuang stop in his tracks, both Hu Run and Zhang Lianmei were visibly taken aback, their gazes filled with confusion. At that moment, Lin Kuang turned to Hu Run and said, "That Kong Cheng is decent. He’s a good police officer. You handle it as you see fit. Also, have him drive me back." Having said his piece, Lin Kuang left the office.
After leaving the chief’s office, Lin Kuang headed straight downstairs, ignoring the strange looks from those around him. Once downstairs, he found Kong Cheng and directly asked for a ride home.
When Kong Cheng saw Lin Kuang, he was stunned. He just went into the interrogation room a short while ago, so how is he already out? This is too strange. And he wants me to drive him back?
Lin Kuang saw the bewilderment on his face and couldn’t help but smile. "If you don’t believe me, you can call your chief."
"There’s no need. I believe you," Kong Cheng replied suddenly, looking Lin Kuang in the eye.
Hearing this, Lin Kuang smiled with satisfaction. He hadn’t misjudged the man. Kong Cheng was indeed worthy of the praise he had given him in Hu Run’s office.
Kong Cheng drove Lin Kuang back to the villa. As for what had transpired at the police station, Kong Cheng didn’t ask, and Lin Kuang didn’t say.
As he got out of the car, Lin Kuang smiled at Kong Cheng. "Keep up the good work. The country needs people like you, and the people need police officers like you." With that, Lin Kuang patted Kong Cheng’s shoulder and turned to walk into the villa.
Watching Lin Kuang leave, Kong Cheng felt an odd sensation rise within him. It was as if Lin Kuang wasn’t younger than him but was instead an elder, a strangely disconcerting feeling. Shaking his head, he pushed the thought from his mind and drove away.
When Lin Kuang entered the villa’s living room, it wasn’t even 7:30 in the evening. Liu Shilin and the Witch were both anxiously on the phone, trying to pull strings and call in favors to get Lin Kuang out. But as soon as they explained the situation, no one was willing to help, leaving the two of them pacing in distress. Liu Shilin had already contacted a lawyer and planned to go with the lawyer to find Lin Kuang at nine in the morning. If no one else could help, she would have to rely on herself. Even if she couldn’t guarantee his release, she was determined to give it her all.
Just then, Lin Kuang walked in from outside. The moment he stepped into the room, both women froze. A moment later, the Witch rushed over. "You scoundrel, did you break out of jail? Good job! Quick, my sister and I will get you the money. You need to flee the country immediately," she said hurriedly, her tone unconsciously betraying her concern for him.
Hearing the Witch’s words, Liu Shilin’s expression turned grim. A jailbreak... That’s a serious crime! If he really has broken out, things will get very complicated!
With this thought, Liu Shilin quickly asked, "Lin Kuang, did you really break out of jail? What are we going to do? That’s a major offense!" she exclaimed anxiously, pacing frantically in place.
Seeing the two worried girls, Lin Kuang suddenly broke into a laugh. The feeling of being cared for was exceptionally good. It reminded him of his family back home—his dad, mom, and grandpa. Thinking of them, a complex mix of emotions washed over him.
"Hey, you scoundrel, what are you laughing at? Have you lost your mind?" the Witch snapped, seeing the smile on his face.
"Ah, no. Ahem. You don’t have to worry about me. I’m fine now. It wasn’t a jailbreak; the police let me out," Lin Kuang said with a smile.
At his words, Liu Shilin and the Witch stared at him, dumbfounded. Released just like that after killing someone with a gun? Even though the victim was a villain, since when has the law become so understanding?
At this, Liu Shilin asked hastily, "Lin... Lin Kuang, you’re not pulling our leg, are you? This isn’t something to joke about." Beside her, the Witch also stared at Lin Kuang, her doll-like face etched with disbelief.
"Relax, it’s alright. Why would I lie to you about something like this? I’m not an idiot. Besides, if I had really broken out of jail and the police put out a warrant for my arrest, do you think I could get away? So, I’m really out. Otherwise, how would I dare to stand here so openly?" Lin Kuang explained with a grin. Hearing his explanation, the two women paused and then nodded at each other.
What he said made sense. If he were a fugitive, he wouldn’t dare show his face here. With that thought, Liu Shilin had to ask again, "So you’re saying you’re really okay? The police have already released you?"
Lin Kuang smiled and nodded. "Yes, I’ve been acquitted. I’m now a good citizen with no criminal record whatsoever!" he said, flashing the two of them a grin that revealed two rows of perfectly white teeth.
Hearing his firm confirmation, Liu Shilin and the Witch both sighed in relief. It seemed the matter was truly settled. However, they were both incredibly curious. How on earth had he managed it? He had clearly killed someone, and based on the events of the morning, it was obviously a setup by the Eagle Sect—a classic case of officials colluding with criminals to ensure his doom. Yet, he had miraculously walked free. No matter how you looked at it, the situation was utterly bizarre. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Unable to suppress her curiosity, Liu Shilin asked, "Lin Kuang, how... how did you get out?" At her question, the Witch also turned to look at him inquisitively.
"Well, that’s a bit difficult to explain," Lin Kuang began with a slight cough, looking at the two sisters with utmost sincerity. "But please believe me, I did absolutely nothing illegal. In fact, what I did benefits everyone."
He couldn’t very well discuss the events at the police station, especially since they involved the criminal underworld. He didn’t want the two girls getting mixed up in things like that, so he chose not to elaborate.
"Hmph, if you don’t want to tell us, then don’t! It’s not like I’m eager to listen!" the Witch huffed. She turned and stomped away, swinging her petite waist and sexy little hips.
Liu Shilin simply smiled and nodded. "Alright. As long as you’re okay, that’s all that matters. You had us worried sick for a while."
"Yeah, everything’s fine now. Thank you, Shilin," Lin Kuang replied with a warm smile. He had clearly felt their concern for him, and he cherished the warmth of that feeling.
"Okay, let’s not dwell on it. What’s important is that you’re safe," Liu Shilin said cheerfully, her heart finally at ease. "Go and get changed. I’ll take you to the company later to have a look. You can start working there from now on."
