Unwritten Desires-Chapter 50
Chapter 50: Chapter 50
Eleanor
What the hell was I even thinking? The thought ran through my head for the umpteenth time that evening as I slammed my head into my pillow with a loud groan.
"Dammit."
I was so busy trying to convince Adrian to help me, that I forgot that Liam also lived in that house.
And it’s not even my fault...
Who the heck walks into a house without making a damn sound?!
I let out another sigh as I flipped over to stare at my ceiling like it was going to help with my situation.
"There’s no doubt about it..." I mumbled to myself before blindly reaching for my phone which was supposed to be right beside me. "Liam is definitely going to find out about my plan now." I huffed, before skimming through my phone for nothing in particular.
Anything to take my mind off all of this.
Unfortunately, nothing grabbed my attention.
With another small sigh, I sat up.
Maybe telling Adrian wasn’t such a good idea. But then again...
He is the only one who’s going to be able to help me find out who left the note in my locker, so it’s not like I had a choice.
My only hope right now is that Adrian sprinkles a bit of lies when he actually tells Liam what happens, if not I’m cooked.
"But even if he does tell him, it doesn’t really matter right? Because I didn’t give Adrian the full details." I found myself saying as I tried to convince myself.
As it didn’t work, I let out another loud groan before slamming my head into my pillow again.
Apparently my tantrum and restlessness continued for another couple of hours, and honestly, who could blame me. Anyone would be anxious, if they were in my situation.
I expected Adrian to get back to me the next day, but clearly he didn’t and when I decided to call or visit him again, I’d start having second thoughts because of Liam.
They just had to go ahead and live in the same house didn’t they.
~~~~~~
More days went by and Adrian still hadn’t gotten back to me, and to be honest, I was scared.
Scared because of I didn’t know what the hell was going on with Adrian and Liam wasn’t giving me a fucking hint and...well because there was a person out there who actually knew my secret, and I didn’t freaking know who it was.
It could still be Sofia for all I know and I’m still hanging out with her like nothing happened.
Well if it is her won’t you still act like nothing happened?
"Shut it." I snapped out loud and if I wasn’t alone in my room right now doing one of my assignments, I’m sure most people would assume that I was losing my mind.
Well...they weren’t wrong.
It had been exactly five days since I had visited Adrian or even heard from him and I was getting really worried. Liam was still tailing me, acting like what he assumed to be "a good boyfriend" and it was pissing me off that he was pretending our mission together or the next day never happened.
I let out a small scoff as I rolled my eyes.
Maybe if I...
My thoughts were interrupted by a loud chime from my phone, slicing through the silence like a whip. I blinked, pulled back into reality, and reached for it with a sigh, half-expecting another annoying message from Sofia about random stuff or our assignment.
But the moment my eyes landed on the screen, I froze.
Adrian.
My breath caught in my throat.
A message from Adrian.
For a second, I just stared, almost not believing it was real. After five whole days of silence, five days of overthinking and worst-case scenarios, there he was—his name lighting up my screen with a "hey" like nothing had happened.
A tiny smile crept onto my lips before I could stop it but that tiny smile quickly vanished as I realized that he was okay and he had kept me in the dark for the past few days.
"Damn asshole." I muttered to myself as I typed aggressively on my phone, replying to him.
All logic and the fact that Liam might also be reading our chat now left my head as I began chatting with him.
Me: Don’t "hey" me. Why the hell have you been quiet for the past five freaking days????
Adrian: Relax Thea (laughing emoji) I had other things on my plate. Besides I checked your school’s security system and the past few nights have been really tight so tonight’s the only time we’ll have to get the footage.
Adrian: Unless you want to wait till next week. (smirking emoji)
I fought back an eyeroll.
Me: Asshole. You know very well I wouldn’t want to wait till next week.
Adrian: And that’s why I’m texting you. Also what’s the vulgar words? Did someone piss you off or something?
I didn’t even need to see his face to know that he was smirking right now.
I mean was there any time that he didn’t have a smug look on his face? Because I would totally pay to see that.
Me: Yes, Adrian (rolling eye emoji). And that someone is you. Do you know how worried I was? You can’t just go quiet like that, especially when you know Liam isn’t going to give me any info or say anything to me.
Adrian: You were worried about me? (Smiling emoji)
"Oh God." I sighed out as I palmed my forehead.
Adrian and I kept chatting for the next twenty minutes and after our little bickering, he told me that he was going to sneak into my school tonight and then send the footage to me as soon as he got it and I was completely thrown off by his words.
I had assumed we were both going to the school and getting the footage together, so hearing this from him had totally caught me off guard.
I somehow managed to convince him to let me tag along and even though he tried to discourage me by telling me that Liam would also be there, I didn’t care.
I know I complained the first time they told me about helping them, but turns out I actually enjoy going on little missions like that. The thrill and adrenaline rush was incredibly invigorating.
Maybe I should just change my major and become a spy or something.
Anyways, Adrian and I met outside my school’s entrance late at night just like we had planned.
And at first, all I could think about was the note. Who dropped it in my locker and how they found out. I was even so laser-focused on getting the answers I wanted that everything else faded into the background. Including the fact that Liam was going to be here with us.
Yes, Adrian had mentioned he would be here too. But I hadn’t actually stopped to think about what that meant until now.
It was certainly no surprise that Adrian had told him, I mean I would have loved it if things were different but it wasn’t exactly unexpected.
Like I said before, I’m just glad I didn’t tell Adrian everything, and it’s not like they’re gonna be able to see the contents of the note from the cameras. And if they asked, I was just going to find a way around it.
All I have to do now is deal with Liam’s pestering and his questions.
I had pushed the fact that he’ll be here to the back of my mind, like a detail I could skim over—and now I had no choice but to deal with it.
But something completely unexpected happened.
Liam didn’t say anything to me.
Hell he didn’t even acknowledge my presence.
Back at school, we used to have lunch together and do everything couples did—well except kissing and other explicit activities of course—and now, he was acting like we didn’t even know each other.
I mean I was supposed to be happy he was minding his business and wasn’t questioning and asking me about the note, but there was something about his nonchalance that completely ticked me off.
And with Adrian completely absorbed in searching the security system for the footage, things were very awkward between us—well for me that is, because I obviously couldn’t see what was going on in his head.
Come to think of it, it was even because of him that we were able to get into the school’s surveillance room without setting off any alarms.
Which was completely weird because he wasn’t even talking to me. But you know what was even weirder?
The fact that Liam had keys to every place inside the school.
Like—I’m not even exaggerating. Every. Single. Fucking. Room.
Security room? Click.
Main office? Click.
Staff-only hallways? Click.
He just pulled out this ring of keys like he was the damn principal or something, and Adrian didn’t even bat an eye.
Well, when I did think about it, they were working together so it’d be expected for Adrian to know about it.
But still...
Having a key to every damn room in the school was crazy. If I was as committed as he was to his revenge in my present life then...
"Got it." Adrian’s words cut off my thoughts like a snap of fingers in a silent room.
"What?" I blinked, totally caught off guard by his interruption.
"The footage from that day?" Adrian turned to where I stood with my back against the wall with an arched brow.
My arms slowly fell to my sides, the weight of his words hitting me like a wave I hadn’t braced for.
The footage. From that day.
This was it.
I could actually find out who it was that put that damn note in my locker.
Before I could even process it fully, I was already pushing off the wall and walking over to Adrian like some invisible thread was yanking me forward.
Liam, who had been glued to his phone the whole time like we didn’t exist, silently slipped in beside us, his expression unreadable. He didn’t say a word, but I felt him there and that same damn suffocating presence he always carried.
Adrian tapped a few more keys and the screen lit up with a feed from a hallway camera.
There it was.
My locker.
Right there.
I held my breath.
A few students walked by, one or two glanced at the camera but kept going. And then...him.
A guy. Average build. Not too tall, not too bulky either. He strolled into frame like he wasn’t in any rush, glanced over his shoulder once, and then casually stepped in front of my locker.
I leaned in, every nerve in my body on fire.
And then he typed in the code.
My fucking code.
He then opened the locker door halfway and slid the folded paper inside so casually people would’ve thought it was his own locker.
His hair caught the light as he turned slightly and I immediately noted the dusty ash brown colour to memory.
I squinted, trying to make out his face, but all I got was a blurred side profile and then his back as he walked away.
"Shit," I breathed. "Do you have another angle?"
"You know I can technically charge you for this right?" Adrian muttered, his fingers flying across the keyboard but I just ignored him like I normally did.
A second later, another window popped open.
And there he was again.
Walking out of frame and heading past the cafeteria.
This time...
The camera caught him from the front.
He wasn’t wearing a hoodie or anything—just a plain dark jacket and jeans. His face came into view for a split second. Just enough for me to get a glimpse.
And my heart dropped.
Because he did look familiar. Not like someone I talked to or someone in my classes. But I’d definitely seen him somewhere before.
But where?
I stared at the screen like it would answer me if I looked hard enough.
But it didn’t.
It just left me with more questions.
And a face I definitely couldn’t forget.
