Chapter 45: Chapter 45: Undead

Dexter was given all the gadgets and equipment needed to work in the mine.

He didn’t know why he was led here but at least he wasn’t used as a lab experiment.

All Eva did was drop him off here and leave.

Dexter was sent to the most terrible sector of the mine.

Here there were reports of strange things happening and so no one would wanted to work there, so they sent criminals there to work.

Dexter entered the underground cave and saw three men already there working, there were two skinny men and one chubby man.

They looked rugged and terrible in their torn up clothes and dusty faces.

Dexter already knew he was in for a tough time just by looking at their faces.

"Another worker?" One of the skinny men said.

"He doesn’t look like one of us." The chubby man replied.

"Hey look at your new inmate, you better treat him well." The guard said as he tossed Dexter towards them.

The three men barely even gave him a glance and continued to do what they were doing.

The guards had done their job so there was no need for them to stay in this wretched place, they left after they threw Dexter.

Dexter stood up and dusted his body, he looked at the three men working, stretched out his hand for a shake as he said.

"Hi, I am Dexter nice to meet you."

The chubby man looked at Dexter’s outstretched hand and looked up at him.

"You better grab a pickaxe and get to work."

Dexter knew that this was the pent up frustration they got from working here, he decided not to do anything and just got to work.

The three men expected Dexter to have and outburst or something due to the way they treated him but he actually just took his pickaxe and went to work.

They felt bad, it was not his fault that they were angry, it was just their pent up frustration.

So after giving it some thought they all walked up to Dexter.

"Hey kid what did you say your name was again?"

"Dexter, Dexter Dray."

"Well Dexter, I am Wilbert, he is Anthony and he is Richard." The chubby man said while pointing to the skinny man on his right and the skinny man on his left respectively.

Dexter just nodded in recognition and was about to get back to work when Anthony stopped him.

"We have a good impression of you so we do not want to see you harm yourself."

Dexter looked at Anthony confused.

"There were more than just us in this mine, in fact we were hundreds."

Dexter was stunned by this turn of events, more than a hundred people worked here and now there were only three, this was difficult to believe, Dexter composed himself and waited for Anthony to continue.

"As a matter of fact this entire planet is cursed, many people have been reported dead in this planet and they don’t even know how they died, but this place is the worst as we have reported the most deaths."

"Look kid if you want to survive, don’t go near that cave and don’t come out in the dead of night." Wilbert gave Dexter the advice and went back to work.

Dexter found everything he just heard odd and had the desire to get to the bottom of it.

People dying without even knowing how, what level do you have reach to achieve something like that.

It was getting dark and Dexter and the three men called it a day and went over to the base.

As Dexter walked through the base he could see and feel the overwhelming sense of fear in the atmosphere.

"Whatever could make people afraid like this has to be terrible." Dexter thought to himself.

But it also increased his desire to know what made them afraid like that.

After lights out and Dexter confirmed that everyone was asleep he snuck out, in a bid to figure out what lurks in the darkness.

He reached the balcony of the the base and looked out unto the large expanse of land that stretched for miles.

There was nothing, the air wasn’t different, the sky didn’t look different, there was absolutely nothing.

The quietness also rose a huge question in Dexter’s mind, what exactly were they mining for.

Dexter dug for a whole day and found absolutely nothing, no crystal, no ruby, not even that weird blue crystalline substance that the blue sapiens used in their technology.

"What are they mining for exactly." Dexter thought.

While he was in thought he heard a growl, Dexter looked up and saw a person walking towards the base.

He had a closer look and saw the person was walking lifelessly towards the base.

Dexter out of concern screamed at the man, "Are you alright."

But he got no answer from the man, Dexter with his quick thinking immediately realized something was wrong but it was to late.

The man after hearing the scream, seemed to have his interest piqued.

He immediately started to run towards the base, but the way he ran, it sorta resembled the way zombies ran in movies.

It wasn’t just him who was running towards the base, Dexter saw a large group of blue sapiens running towards the base.

When the man upfront came close to the base Dexter was able to get a good look at him and found out he was dead.

"Zombies are real!?" Dexter thought and ran straight into the base.

The zombies clawed at the base walls and gates in an attempt to get in.

The scratching and growling from the undead woke up everyone on the base.

"What is happening?" "What is going on?"

People said as panic set in.

Dexter had just arrived at his dorm to see his three work mates awake.

"Where were you?" Wilbert asked as he looked at Dexter curiously.

"I heard the growling and scratching and woke up and went out to go have a look." Dexter explained.

Wilbert had his doubts about what Dexter said as he was a light sleeper so he woke up immediately he heard the growling and scratching and Dexter was no were to be found then, but he no proof of were Dexter actually went to so he let it go.

While his group discussing what was happening out there, there was a large announcement from the speakers on the walls.

"All miners grab any weapon you can find and prepare for battle."
