Urban Super Soldier King-Chapter 942 Gao Mantang Frantically Recruits Talents
Chapter 942: Chapter 942 Gao Mantang Frantically Recruits Talents
In Gao Zhitao’s mind, there really wasn’t anyone in this city who dared mess with him. Looking at Xiang Yu’s stern expression, he asked curiously, "Do you think it could be the Heavenly Dragon Gang? Lately, I keep hearing about them."
"Don’t spout nonsense here. The Heavenly Dragon Gang has neither grievances nor grudges against you. Why would they bother killing you?" Tie Zhuzi said irritably from the side.
Although Gao Zhitao was a cop, he had always been indifferent to the matters at his station, infamous for being a spoiled rich kid.
Plus, he had always lived in the safe haven Gao Mantang had built for him, so he knew very little about the happenings in the underworld.
Recently, however, he indeed had been hearing about the Heavenly Dragon Gang, as if this gang was really formidable.
"If it’s not the Heavenly Dragon Gang, then who else could it be? As if they wouldn’t fear me, the police chief." Gao Zhitao said smugly.
Tie Zhuzi smacked Gao Zhitao on the head and said, "If even I’m not afraid of you, why the hell would anyone else be?"
Gao Zhitao, currently unable to move freely, didn’t bother arguing with Tie Zhuzi. Instead, he chuckled and said, "Old Tie, help me to the bathroom first, and we’ll discuss this later."
"No, go ahead and piss yourself right here." Tie Zhuzi answered in annoyance.
With a bitter face, Gao Zhitao said, "Sure, I could pee right here, but the issue is I need to handle some serious business."
...
Around 5 PM, Gao Mantang arrived at the hospital with a load of food. Stepping inside, he looked around and was quite pleased with the environment.
"I always thought public hospitals were the best. Didn’t expect this place to be even better," Gao Mantang praised sincerely.
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Gao Zhitao, lying in bed, asked, "How’s Huang Yi doing now?"
Gao Mantang waved dismissively, saying, "Don’t even bring him up. The guy’s a total coward. At the military base, I barely scared him, and he fainted on the spot. He came to after a while and confessed everything. Turns out he did have a motive to kill you. After teaching him a lesson, I handed him over to that Kong Shenghui kid."
Xiang Yu was speechless. Knowing Gao Mantang, he must’ve resorted to some physical persuasion. But since Huang Yi wasn’t exactly a good person, Xiang Yu didn’t feel any sympathy.
"What about Fang Shichao?" Gao Zhitao prodded.
Gao Mantang paused and then responded, "That kid still has some backbone. But after some re-education from us, he fessed up too. Turns out he and Huang Yi have done plenty of shady stuff together."
"Did you guys use sedative drugs?" Gao Zhitao asked directly.
Gao Mantang coughed dryly, glared at Gao Zhitao, and said, "Don’t talk nonsense, kid. What drugs? Our military has its own interrogation methods."
"Oh, please. With your so-called methods, the average guy wouldn’t survive past your first session," Gao Zhitao exposed without hesitation.
Xiang Yu pretended not to hear anything and continued sipping his water, uninterested in the topic. However, he did feel a slight curiosity about that sedative drug Gao Zhitao mentioned.
Still, he didn’t ask too much, lest he arouse Gao Mantang’s suspicion. It was something he could learn from Gao Zhitao later on.
"What about Meng Jianxin?" Xiang Yu turned to Gao Mantang.
Meng Jianxin was a sniper prodigy, someone who could achieve great things with proper nurturing.
Gao Mantang grinned and said, "He’s my soldier now."
It was evident that Gao Mantang was pleased with securing such a talent. Hearing this, Xiang Yu felt relieved. Following Gao Mantang, Meng Jianxin’s abilities wouldn’t go to waste.
After talking for a bit, Gao Mantang glanced around and asked Xiang Yu, "Where’s that younger brother of yours?"
Xiang Yu knew he was referring to Xiao Xuan. After Xiao Xuan’s impressive performance on the scene, it was clear Gao Mantang appreciated his talent and wanted to recruit him.
"No idea," Xiang Yu replied nonchalantly.
"Can I meet him?" Gao Mantang asked with a smile.
"Grandpa, what are you up to? Don’t tell me you’ve taken a liking to pretty boys?" Gao Zhitao exclaimed shamelessly.
"Shut your mouth!" Gao Mantang retorted irritably toward Gao Zhitao.
"He’s busy and can’t meet you," Xiang Yu quickly interjected.
Gao Mantang nodded somewhat dejectedly, then looked back at Xiang Yu and said, "Xiang Yu, to be honest with you, since you’re not interested in joining the military, I want to recruit him."
"What? So, it’s Xiao Xuan you’ve set your sights on! Grandpa, I know you’re lonely, but this is too much..." Gao Zhitao’s words were cut short by a fierce glare from Gao Mantang, which silenced him immediately.
Tie Zhuzi, feeling left out, grumbled, "Hey, Grandpa Zhitao, you’ve only got eyes for Xiao Xuan, haven’t you noticed how exceptional I am, too? Why’ve you invited him but not me?"
Gao Mantang laughed awkwardly and said, "Of course, you’re welcome too. As long as you meet the requirements for enlisting, you’re more than qualified."
"Meet the requirements? Let me tell you, Xiao Xuan learned everything he knows from me. Back in the day, when he was apprenticed to me..." Tie Zhuzi started bragging.
But Gao Mantang just smiled awkwardly, sizing up Tie Zhuzi’s burly frame, completely contrasting Xiao Xuan’s build. It was hard to imagine Xiao Xuan learned his skills from him.
Still, Gao Mantang could tell Tie Zhuzi wasn’t a simple character either. His curiosity about Xiang Yu deepened further.
"I know what you’re getting at. Xiao Xuan is my brother, not my subordinate. If you want him, you’ll have to talk to him yourself," Xiang Yu said with a smile.
Hearing this, Gao Mantang instantly brightened up. He had just brought Meng Jianxin under his wing, and if he could recruit Xiao Xuan too, he’d have two sniper geniuses. Even the thought thrilled him.
As far as Xiang Yu was concerned, both Tie Zhuzi and Xiao Xuan were his close brothers, free to make their own choices. If Xiao Xuan decided to follow Gao Mantang, he wouldn’t oppose it.
After wrapping up their conversation, Gao Mantang fixed Xiang Yu with a serious look and said, "When I came in earlier, I had a feeling something was off. Is there anything going on?"
Upon hearing this, Xiang Yu inwardly marveled at Gao Mantang’s instincts. The man was indeed a seasoned veteran to have sensed that.
Gao Zhitao quickly recounted what had happened earlier and then remarked nonchalantly, "Looks like those threatening phone calls weren’t from Huang Yi after all. There’s someone else behind it."
"But he explicitly admitted that he sent people to kill you," Gao Mantang said, furrowing his brow.
Now that Huang Yi was captured, could it be that someone else was still targeting his grandson? This was beyond outrageous. Were people really daring to disregard Gao Mantang’s authority?
"Don’t worry. As long as I’m here, I refuse to believe anyone would have the guts," Gao Mantang declared fiercely.
"How about you send some of your guards to protect me? That’d be safer," Gao Zhitao suggested carelessly.
Gao Mantang turned his gaze to Xiang Yu. "What do you think? Do you think it’s necessary?"
Increasingly, Gao Mantang found himself unable to see through Xiang Yu. He genuinely wanted to know what Xiang Yu thought...
