Urban's Fury: The War Dragon God-Chapter 1494: Eerie Market Town
The warriors of Iron Blood Pass City were destined not to find Li Feng and his party, who had already fled in a different direction, and by the time they discovered the two Earth Bulwark Bears, it was two days later.
Two days, counting the previous day, their opponents had wasted three days.
By this time, even if the Camp Captain realized something was amiss and wanted to re-search, it was too late.
Meanwhile, Li Feng and his party continued diagonally towards the north of Ancestor Dragon City, after ten days and nights.
"I discovered a road ahead."
Li Feng returned to the resting spot and brought back some water. Without a mount, Zi Yan was managing, but Ran Yue and Xiao Luobing were already struggling.
"There's a road, but did you see any sign of habitation?"
Xiao Luobing's eyes lit up. These ten days of wilderness survival had been hell for her. As the eldest daughter of the Xiao Family, she had never suffered like this.
Ran Yue swallowed the jerky in her mouth and raised her head, saying, "Seeing a road means there must be a settlement nearby, for where there are roads, there tends to be people."
Saying this, the three women looked towards Li Feng.
"We've been walking nearly a thousand miles on foot, but in reality, we ended up making a big detour."
"Better to err on the side of caution. Ran Yue, you come with me to the settlement. Zi Yan, you stay here with Xiao Luobing. We'll see if we can buy some mounts."
Li Feng considered; they had to enter the settlement. After all, relying solely on their feet to reach Ancestor Dragon City would be difficult.
Moreover, their food supplies were almost depleted and needed replenishing.
"Ah, I want to come too."
Xiao Luobing looked pitifully at Li Feng.
"No, you can't. Zi Yan, watch over her. Ran Yue and I will return before nightfall. If we don't, go back to the old tree we passed."
After giving instructions, Li Feng nodded at Zi Yan, "You all be careful."
Li Feng then left with Ran Yue, heading west along the discovered road. After traveling for a long time, fields began to appear on either side of the road, and the road became smoother.
A few miles away, thin smoke rose, and a settlement appeared before their eyes.
This was the first normal settlement Li Feng had seen since arriving in the Kunlun Realm. Previously, the Gate City was more of a fortress military city and different from a settlement.
Li Feng turned to Ran Yue, "Is it normal to see a settlement here?"
Ran Yue roughly knew what Li Feng wanted to ask. After all, after passing through the Gate City, they'd been ambushed, and settlements in the wilderness were similarly lawless areas.
Ran Yue shook her head slightly, "Yes, although we took a detour, we've penetrated several hundred miles, so encountering some settlements is normal."
"The lands around Ancestor Dragon City are fertile and well-developed, but they are mostly lands claimed by top aristocratic families, spreading in circles."
"The three-hundred-mile range is essentially the territory of the eight top aristocratic families. The five-hundred-mile range belongs to another twenty-two first-class families, and the thousand-mile range is the domain of second and third-class families, while beyond that is territory owned by unremarkable families."
"These small family territories usually aren't concentrated; they're patchy, with low degrees of development, typically centered around a village or settlement with a ten-mile range radiating outward."
"These types of settlements don't have many experts. Usually, the Family Head is merely at the Foundation Establishment stage, and generally, significant family members reside in Ancestor Dragon City. The settlement serves as just family territory, usually managed by a steward, generally self-sufficient, though some merchants do business here."
Ran Yue shared what she knew with Li Feng.
"Of course, there are also places where lawlessness prevails, but they are rare. For hunting groups like us, others seldom dare provoke us because reckless actions lead to fatal consequences." 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"Let's go in and have a look. If there's any danger, I'll protect you and fight our way out."
With that, Li Feng and Ran Yue entered the settlement, which resembled a medieval market. The settlement had only a single main road that led directly to the residence of the settlement's head family.
In the settlement, there were only a few sparse shops.
The appearance of Li Feng and Ran Yue attracted some glances, but it was just the instinctive reaction to strangers.
Li Feng glanced at the only tavern and inn on the street and led Ran Yue forward.
"Are you stopping for a meal or staying over?"
Seeing the two enter, a waiter in the inn eagerly approached, although the business in the tavern was quite bleak, with nearly no customers.
"What do you have to eat?"
"We have everything. What would you like to order? Although our shop is small, our dishes will surely satisfy you."
"Just bring a few of your specialties."
"Alright, I'll go and arrange that."
A moment later, the waiter returned, and Li Feng called him over again.
"Anything else the guest requires?"
Li Feng casually tossed him a White Spirit Stone: "What's the surname of the family ruling this settlement? We're just passing through and didn't see it marked on the map."
"Also, if I want to buy a mount, where should I go?"
The waiter pocketed the Spirit Stone and said eagerly: "The owner of this settlement is surnamed Wu, but it's not convenient to disclose his full name."
"As for buying a mount, our settlement truly doesn't have livestock for sale. You will need to inquire at the main residence."
Li Feng waved him off, and the waiter tactfully left.
"I'm not familiar with these unremarkable families, but I didn't notice anything unusual," Ran Yue said.
Li Feng, however, felt something was amiss.
Shortly, the waiter served a platter of wine and meat, "The food is here."
"Please, take your time enjoying."
Li Feng suddenly reached out and grabbed the waiter's wrist. The waiter looked at Li Feng in surprise, "What are you doing, sir?"
The waiter looked at Li Feng.
Grabbing the waiter's pulse, Li Feng quickly noticed something wrong and looked up at the waiter, "I thought something was off."
A Purple Flame burst from Li Feng's hand, instantly incinerating the waiter's upper clothing. When they saw the waiter again, his body was unusually skeletal, with a centipede attached to his back.
"There's poison in your dishes, isn't there?"
The waiter looked at Li Feng in surprise, "How did you detect the flaw? I don't think I showed any weakness."
"Hmm, indeed, there wasn't any apparent flaw, but it was too quiet, unnaturally quiet," Li Feng said.
Moreover, when Li Feng seized the waiter's wrist, the waiter showed no reaction, whereas a normal person would feel something.
"Heh, even if you found out, it's too late. Since you're here, you might as well stay."
The waiter's face twisted into a grimace, but Li Feng's Purple Flame crept up his arm. When it reached the centipede on the waiter's back, the burning pain made the waiter scream, yet the Purple Flame swiftly consumed the wriggling centipede.
The waiter's stomach suddenly churned, and he spat out a glob of black blood.
Li Feng, prepared for this, dodged swiftly. The black blood splattered behind him, containing an insect resembling a leech, writhing continuously.
