Vampire's Blood Ascension-Chapter 47: Desperate Vampire
The beetle stumbled, and Rudy jumped over to the other side and did the same with its right rear limb.
It let out pained hisses as it tried to escape, and Sera, who was continuously feeding her essence to the net, had turned pale, and her eyes were heavy from essence fatigue.
’Not yet. Not yet.’ She chanted in her head as her vision turned foggy and she felt as if she was drowning within the depths of a dark sea.
The beetle’s heavy back, now free of its supports, struck the ground, and Rudy climbed it.
Once atop it, his eyes shone red as he activated [Scarlet Sight] orange, and yellow lines appeared all over the dark chitin. These were the sight cracks they had made by crashing it into the building and trapping it in the sharp net.
He raised his sword towards the moonlit sky, and it glowed red as he impaled it with an utterly cold expression on his face.
However, as if fate had decided to play games with him, his sword, which had slayed various dreadborns and seen more blood than most irregulars of his rank, shattered and fell apart.
The shattering rang throughout the settlement like a heart drop, and Rudy’s eyes widened beyond belief.
He looked at the hilt, his lips quivered as despair began to sprout in his heart; however, before it could defeat his undying will, he stored the broken sword in his spatial ring.
Then he channeled blood essence into his fists, raised them above his head, and sent them crashing into the dark chitin with all his might.
The dreadborn stumbled from the impact, and Sera felt its weight as her own strings dug in her hand and drew blood.
"What is he doing?" she mumbled darkly as she tried her best to keep the beetle locked in its place, but the beetle stumbled once again, and a few of the strings fell apart.
"Break! Dammit!" Rudy continued to slam his fists into it, over and over again.
Even though the beetle felt the impact, its chitin remained the same.
Blood seeped out of Rudy’s fists as he slammed them like a madman, but seeing that they were doing nothing, his face turned gray in panic.
The warmth of the gleaming blood wrapped around his hands, and he looked at them with a look of realization.
He never needed any weapon; he himself, his own blood, was the weapon.
"I am stupid," he cursed himself. Using [Blood Manipulation], he shaped the blood around his fists into gauntlets, and with [Crimstone Construct], he turned it solid and deadly.
He raised his fists again and crashed them into its back. A crack echoed throughout the place, and the beetle’s bottom nearly touched the ground from the impact.
But that was too much for Sera, as she was barely holding on.
Her net instantly fell apart, and blood dripped from the corners of her lips, her face dark.
The beetle, now freed of its net, shook its body to free itself of the mosquito that kept attacking its back. However, before it could find success, Sera shot up to her feet, and her strings shot towards its mandible and coiled them.
Then she turned around and ran.
The abomination instantly forgot about the mosquito and began to chase the spider.
Fatigued, Sera couldn’t run much faster, and as the beetle neared her, Rudy once again began ravaging its back with his fists.
Cracks spread across its dark chitin armor, and the beetle jerked from the impact.
It once again focused on Rudy, and Sera hurled her chakrams at it.
As the chakrams were tied to her strings, she could do much more than she could with her hands.
The chakram struck its head, and its attention returned to Sera.
The two continued their exchange and neared Kalien.
Kalien stood at the top of a three-story building with his sword raised towards the sky as he collected the moonlight into it.
The blade of his sword glowed dangerously brightly, and the clear signs of overexertion were visible on his face, though, considering the state Rudy and Sera were in, he was barely tired.
"The things you do for love," Kalien muttered as he saw them near the spot.
Seeing Rudy’s fist gleam red, he narrowed his eyes and thought, ’What’s that?’ However, instead of delving deeper, he shook his head and mumbled, "Must be blood reflecting moonlight."
Sera and Rudy raised their heads and looked at the bright light at the top of the ruined tower and shouted at the same time, "NOW!"
The next moment, Kalien jumped off the building like a shooting star with his sword pointed towards the beetle.
The beetle also felt something was wrong, and its chitin began to open. Rudy slipped off its back; however, before he could fall, he gripped the chitin’s end and climbed upwards.
As Kalien fell towards it, its wings spread as it got ready to let out a deadly hum once again. Just as a faint racket left them, Rudy muttered through gritted teeth, "Nuh uh," as he seized its feeble wings with trembling hands and ripped them off while hollering at the top of his lungs.
The dreadborn let out a shaking hiss, and Kalien crashed into it.
The moonlight that he had been storing in his sword for the last hour burst outwards as moon essence, and as the chitin was already cracked and open, his sword easily slid deep inside it, and the essence spread and detonated within it instead of at its back.
Cracks formed all across the dreadborn, and a blinding light seeped out of them before it exploded.
The dark sand rose, and light devoured the night for a moment as the explosion shook the sky and the ground, sending all three of them flying in the rubble.
They groaned as they slammed into the ground, their ears rang, and their vision spun for a few minutes before they came to their senses.
’Did we do it...?’ Rudy and Sera questioned with heavy eyes, and Kalien’s pained yet joyous voice reached them, "L-Lady Seraphel! W-We did it!"
A smile spread across Sera’s tired face while blood-soaked Rudy calmly stared at the moon.
