Vergil Is Back-Chapter 56 - 46: “The Thing That Shouldn’t Be”
Chapter 56 - 46: “The Thing That Shouldn’t Be”
The chanting grew louder.
Runes carved in ancient blood flared around the underground shrine. A grotesque altar stood at the center — bones, cursed talismans, and something far worse: a beating, half-formed heart, floating mid-air in a cursed barrier.
A man stood before it, arms raised.
The Curse-User.
His body was wrapped in layers of black cloth and flesh-woven charms, face hidden behind a cracked noh mask. His aura was wrong — like a cursed spirit wearing human skin.
"You're too late," he said without turning. "But then again... you always are, Leon."
Leon's eyes narrowed. He didn't reply.
But Maki stepped forward, gripping her blade.
"You know him?"
"Never met him," Leon said coldly. "But he knows more than he should."
The Curse-User finally turned.
His mask showed no emotion, but his voice was a cold hiss.
"And you... The Broken Blade. I sensed your birth the moment the Rock Piece fused. You shine brighter than you should."
"Then shut up and fight," Maki snapped.
The ground exploded.
In a blink, the cursed heart pulsed and unleashed a burst of pure malevolent energy. From the shadows behind the Curse-User, two malformed cursed creatures surged forth — twisted, serpent-like abominations with skulls for faces.
Maki charged.Leon vanished.
The fight ignited like wildfire.
Maki's Side:
She danced between the cursed beasts, blades sparking as they clashed with bone and claw. One struck her side — she gritted her teeth and absorbed the impact.

Unyielding Core activated.
Her aura doubled in pressure. Every wound only made her stronger.
She slammed her foot down, redirected the force, and impaled one of the creatures against the wall with a brutal upward slash. The wall cracked. Blood and cursed mist sprayed.
"I'm not the same girl you'd crush before," she growled. "Not anymore."
Leon's Side:
Leon clashed with the Curse-User — Yamato in one hand, Boosted Gear glowing in the other.
Their swords met, and for a moment, the entire tunnel bent. Reality warped from the sheer pressure.
"You're different than the Vergil I remember," the enemy hissed. "More human. How disappointing."
"And you talk too much," Leon replied, kicking him through a pillar.
The Curse-User laughed, standing amidst the dust like it was nothing.
"Let's see if that bloodline of yours can handle this—"
His aura flared, and a third eye opened on his forehead — black and endless.
Leon's Devil Trigger flared in response — hair silver, void wings out, Yamato humming with resonance. Even the cursed heart in the ritual shivered at the energy clash.
Final Exchange:
Maki, bloodied but grinning, joined Leon's side.
"Finish this with me?"
"Together," he replied again.
Leon unleashed a full Boosted Yamato slash — cutting through dimensions.
Maki followed up with her new Rockburst Cleave — a powered-down echo of his style, infused with her raw, vengeful will.
The combo sliced through the Curse-User and disrupted the ritual mid-cast.
A howling wail tore through the cavern as the cursed heart shriveled and vanished — the summoning interrupted, the creature unborn.
The dust settled.
The shrine crumbled.
The Curse-User's body flickered... and dissolved.
But his voice lingered in the air, like a curse embedded in the stone:
"You can't outrun what's coming, Abyssborn. Even your Seraph blood won't protect you forever..."
