Chapter 202: 196 Cai Qiong and Xu Qian’s Leisure Time

While the Cai Family was in chaos, Cai Xing wasn’t idle either. After Wang Jian and his companion had left in the morning, Cai Xing and Xu Qian started chatting about everyday matters, and Cai Qiong joined in later.

It was then that Xu Qian noticed something was off. Whenever Cai Qiong looked at her, her gaze would flit about uncertainly. She was obviously hiding something. Taking advantage of a moment alone with Cai Qiong, Xu Qian spoke up.

"Xiao Jun, you didn’t look well just now. Haven’t you recovered from what happened yesterday?"

"Yesterday? What happened?"

The question caught Cai Qiong completely off guard. She then heard Xu Qian continue, "Your father’s health, of course. What else could it be?"

Xu Qian shook her head and grasped Cai Qiong’s hand, her heart aching for her. She assumed the girl was so shaken by yesterday’s events that she was even fumbling for words.

Cai Qiong could only manage a wry smile. She certainly couldn’t tell the truth; playing dumb was her only option now. The emotional turmoil from yesterday had vanished the moment Cai Xing woke up. The only reason her mood fluctuated whenever she saw Xu Qian now was because of what she had overheard between her and Wang Jian the previous night. But Xu Qian insisted on pressing the matter, asking a question Cai Qiong could not possibly answer.

"By the way, Sister Qian," Cai Qiong suddenly asked, "may I ask you a question?"

Xu Qian was wondering how to comfort her, so when Cai Qiong brought up a topic herself, it was exactly what she’d hoped for. "Of course, ask away."

"I just wanted to ask you something," Cai Qiong hesitated for a long moment before finally saying, "Are you and Wang Jian dating?"

"Ah?" Xu Qian was startled. Her grip on Cai Qiong’s hand tightened unconsciously, and she immediately stood up, pacing the yard in small, agitated steps. "No. Why would you say that?"

Cold sweat had already broken out on Xu Qian’s back, and the cool morning breeze sent a shiver right through her. This was the very thing she had been dreading, and now it had actually happened.

Cai Qiong saw her reaction and knew that what she had heard last night wasn’t her imagination. But since neither Xu Qian nor Wang Jian planned to reveal their relationship, she wouldn’t be the one to foolishly expose them.

Cai Qiong simply shook her head and smiled. "Nobody told me. I just saw how wonderful your relationship is. You’re like a couple with a silent understanding. It made me envious, that’s all."

"So that’s it." Xu Qian studied Cai Qiong’s expression, trying to gauge if she was telling the truth. The cold sweat on her back felt like ice. "Xiao Jian and I are family. Isn’t it normal for us to be close and have such a good rapport?"

"Don’t overthink it," Xu Qian consoled her.

"Right." Cai Qiong smiled back. "I’ve never had that kind of relationship with my own family."

"Don’t be silly," Xu Qian said. "Every family has a different way of getting along. How could yours be the same as ours?"

Cai Qiong was surprised by how articulate Xu Qian was. She was giving Cai Qiong, a psychologist herself, a run for her money. However, now that she had her answer, Cai Qiong no longer dwelled on it and decided to change the subject.

"Sister Qian, do we have a mahjong set at home?"

"Mahjong?" Xu Qian was speechless. "Isn’t your family busy sorting out company matters? How can you be so carefree as to think about playing mahjong?"

Xu Qian couldn’t be blamed for being nosy. Anyone who knew the situation would be just as bewildered as she was, seeing Cai Qiong finish gossiping and then look to play mahjong.

Cai Qiong spread her hands. "You don’t actually think I can help with anything, do you?"

"You can’t?" Xu Qian squinted, giving her a questioning look.

After all, Cai Xing only had one son and one daughter, Cai Wenji and Cai Qiong. Wasn’t it to be expected that his daughter would help out?

To Xu Qian’s astonishment, Cai Qiong replied matter-of-factly, "I’ve never been involved with the family business, ever. In my family, I’m just a doctor, with no official position. If it weren’t for my status allowing me to know a lot about our family’s affairs, I probably wouldn’t be much better than any other doctor."

So that was how it was?

Cai Qiong concluded, "If I really tried to help, I’d only make a bigger mess. I can handle the psychology department at the hospital, but managing the company? Forget it."

"Alright then." Xu Qian was convinced. "Your dad has to stay home, so I’ll take you out to play mahjong. Do you remember Liping, who visited last time?"

She was referring to the period when Ren Yu had her accident. Back then, Li Liping, Ren Yu, and the two of them would occasionally get together for a game of mahjong. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Cai Qiong nodded. "Of course, I remember. Are we going to her house?"

"Yeah," Xu Qian said. "We can’t have people coming over to our place. It wouldn’t be good if word got out."

The two decided to go at once. They quickly tidied themselves up, informed Cai Xing, and left, locking the door behind them.

Cai Xing’s health was excellent now. He relaxed in the living room watching TV, occasionally taking calls and directing matters with great confidence. Naturally, he didn’t pay any mind to where the two women went to have fun.

Xu Qian took Cai Qiong to Li Liping’s house, but the anticipated mahjong game wasn’t happening—the Lao Zhang Family wasn’t home. Playing mahjong with strangers didn’t sound very interesting, so they simply strolled around the village instead.

They even stopped by the clinic entrance for a look. When they saw Wang Jian and Chairman Kang treating patients, they didn’t have the heart to go in and disturb them. Standing at the entrance, Cai Qiong watched Wang Jian earnestly diagnosing a patient. It would be a lie to say her heart wasn’t stirred in the slightest.

They say a man is most handsome when he’s serious. There wasn’t a hint of exaggeration in that saying, and Cai Qiong was experiencing it firsthand. She glanced over and noticed that Xu Qian, standing beside her, was having much the same reaction.

Cai Qiong said, "Sister Qian, I don’t think you’ve ever seen Wang Jian treating patients before, have you?"

Xu Qian snapped back to her senses. Looking at Cai Qiong, she said, "You’re right, I haven’t really seen it. I’ve only been to his clinic once."

"That’s a real pity," Cai Qiong sighed. "Don’t you think Wang Jian looks incredibly handsome when he’s so serious?"

"HAHAHAHA." Xu Qian’s face flushed slightly, but she laughed out loud. "What’s so pitiful about that?"

Cai Qiong laughed along with her. "You’ve missed out on seeing this side of him a lot."

"Nonsense." Xu Qian shot her a look. Cai Qiong was being too blunt, and it made her uncomfortable. "Can’t you be serious for once?"

"AHAHAHA!" Cai Qiong roared with laughter. "I’m just being honest! I really enjoy watching him."

She thought back to her initial reason for approaching Wang Jian and said, "When I first met him, I even recorded a lot of videos of him. But then so many things happened, and I got sidetracked. Now might be the time to pick that back up..."

"Filming videos?" Xu Qian remembered as well.

Cai Qiong said, "Yeah, I originally wanted to gather material for my own research. But now that I think about it, making a documentary might be even better. You know how incredible Wang Jian’s Medical Skills are. If we could record them and get the word out, it would be a huge benefit to him."

"Speaking of which, that reminds me of something," Xu Qian recalled. "A while ago, a reporter from the province came to our village to cover the poverty alleviation efforts. After they heard about Wang Jian, they also mentioned the idea of a documentary."

"Oh?" This was the first Cai Qiong had heard about a reporter. "Were they from the provincial TV station?"

"Yes." Xu Qian thought back to what the person had said and confirmed, "They were definitely from the provincial TV station. I even saw their van at the village entrance."

"Then that’s perfect," Cai Qiong said. "There was some talk before about a documentary on hospitals, and they even approached the Cai Family’s hospital. This gives me an idea. If we filmed Wang Jian, it would absolutely cause a sensation."

Growing excited as she spoke, Cai Qiong started pulling Xu Qian back the way they came. "Come on, let’s go! I’ll make a call when we get back and see if this idea has any legs."

"What’s the rush?" Xu Qian felt a little helpless. She wanted to watch Wang Jian a bit longer.

Cai Qiong had been right; she really hadn’t seen much of Wang Jian treating patients. And he truly did look very handsome when he was serious. Her heart pounded, racing just as it did when she was young and in love. Now, as Cai Qiong pulled her away, she was reluctant but had no choice.

After the two returned home, Cai Xing was still watching television, in the exact same state as when they had left.

This father and daughter were really two of a kind. One sat at home quietly watching TV, while the other wandered around outside with her.

Poor Cai Wenji, Xu Qian thought to herself.
