Virtual Realm: My Venom Can Slay Gods-Chapter 23: Class Change
Chapter 23: Class Change
The assassin mentor didn't waste any time. With a wave of his hand, a golden light enveloped Ethan, and a system notification chimed in his ears:
Ding! Congratulations on successfully changing your class. Would you like to reallocate your free attribute points?
In Oracle, players receive one opportunity to reassign their attribute points upon their first class change. This system accommodates players like mages, who often invest in Strength early on for basic attacks due to the lack of skills. Without this option, transitioning to an Intelligence-based build would severely hinder progression. The game's design showed remarkable attention to player needs.
Ethan thought for a moment. Since he had allocated all but 5 points into Agility—perfectly matching the assassin class—he decided it wasn't necessary. He declined the option, avoiding unnecessary delays.
Ding! Congratulations, you are now a great assassin! Upon reaching each level, assassins receive an additional 2 points in Agility. This bonus increases to 4 points every 10 levels.
Every class in Oracle came with unique stat bonuses. Warriors gained Strength, mages Intelligence, shield guardians Stamina, archers a mix of Agility and Strength, and priests a combination of Intelligence and Spirit. These specialized stats complemented each class's role and playstyle.
As Ethan's class change finalized, his suppressed experience points released, instantly pushing him to level 11. His stats increased accordingly:
Level: 10 → 11
Health: 1,710 → 1,750
Mana: 150 → 170
Agility: 76 → 78
Movement Speed: 100 → 102
Free Attribute Points: +10 (total: 30)
Experience: 2,060/30,000
Then, a global announcement rang out across the entire North America server:
Ding! Server Announcement:
Congratulations to player Sealed for becoming the first player to successfully change class. Rewards: Reputation +1,000, Gold +50, Special Skill Book x1.
Ding! Server Announcement:
Congratulations to player Sealed for becoming the first player to change to the assassin class. Rewards: Reputation +500, Gold +20, Assassin Skill Book x1.
These announcements echoed three times, plunging the server into stunned silence. Once again, Sealed's name dominated the game world, becoming the talk of every player. Since the game's launch, his achievements had been inescapable, drawing awe and envy in equal measure.
"Who is this Sealed? How can one player be so insanely good?"
"Yeah, seriously. The game's barely been out for a day, and this guy's already on TV three or four times."
"I'm still level 8! And I haven't logged out once. How is the gap this massive?"
"Does anyone have his contact info? Please, I need to ride his coattails!"
Sovereign—leader of the guild Apex Dominion—frowned as he glanced at his experience bar, stuck at 50% of level 9. His face darkened.
Across countless novice villages, top-tier players shared similar frustration. Many had reached level 9 and were racing toward level 10, only to find themselves outpaced.
"Jeremy, the first assassin slot is gone," Harold said regretfully.
"It's fine. I'll go for archer instead," Jeremy replied. Though he'd initially planned to become an assassin due to its high critical hit rate and close-range combat style, he decided to adapt. His talent also synergized well with the archer class.
"That makes sense," Nathan said. "Each class's first change likely comes with a powerful skill book. If no one claims archer, take it."
"Agreed," Jeremy said. "Let's grind harder. With the teleportation array fixed, we've got a natural advantage. Once we hit level 10, we're golden."
Meanwhile, in New York, Sophia frowned at her experience bar, stuck at 45% of level 9. She glanced at Uncle Lee. "Uncle Lee, focus all resources on helping me level up. I want the first mage slot."
Uncle Lee nodded. "Understood, Miss Sophia. This is an opportunity we can't afford to miss."
Hearing the announcements, Ethan sighed in relief and immediately logged out to eat. He'd been gaming nonstop since breakfast at 8 a.m., and it was now nearly 4 p.m. His stomach was growling, but he'd powered through to secure the rewards.
After removing his headset, Ethan stretched and instinctively checked his phone. His bank account balance showed: $48,620.00.
"Holy... Almost fifty grand in a day and a half?" Ethan's eyes widened in disbelief. He'd been so focused on grinding that he hadn't tracked his earnings. Fifty grand—that was over ten years of work at his old $3,500-per-month job, assuming he didn't spend a dime.
"Guess this gamble paid off. All thanks to my talent." Ethan grinned but couldn't shake the question of how he'd obtained his mysterious talent in the first place.
After freshening up, Ethan headed out for a proper meal. He chose a mid-range restaurant near his rental apartment—a place he wouldn't have splurged on before. Today, though, he treated himself to a feast, ordering multiple dishes. While waiting for his food, he scrolled through his phone. The top short videos were all in-game clips, with the most liked showcasing guilds taking down the Wild Boar King. Watching these, Ethan couldn't help but marvel at the power of teamwork.
The restaurant was noticeably quieter than usual. Scattered diners sat at a few tables, most discussing Oracle.
"Can't believe how quickly this game's taken over," Ethan thought.
Just then, his phone rang. He hesitated before answering. The caller ID read: Mason.
"Ethan, you finally picked up! Do you know how hard it's been to reach you? Are you still in New York?" Mason's excited voice came through.
"Yeah. Why?" Ethan's tone was cold.
Mason's enthusiasm faltered. "You're still upset about what happened with Sean, aren't you? Look, about that—"
"Cut to the chase, Mason," Ethan interrupted.
"Alright," Mason said, his tone shifting. "Have you heard about Oracle? It's the future, Ethan. Sean's planning to start a guild, and we need you. You're the best gamer we know. Come to L.A. and join us. This game's going to be huge, bigger than anything before. It's a goldmine."
Ethan's lips curled into a cold smile. "Not interested. You guys can handle it yourselves."
Mason hesitated. "Ethan, what's that supposed to mean?"
"Figure it out yourself," Ethan said, his voice steely. "Don't call again." He hung up.
Taking a deep breath, Ethan's expression darkened. "Sean Foster... You may have the connections in real life, but in this game? You'll have to answer to me."
