Chapter 31: Interrogation

My eyes widened hearing her say those words. Looking at her flustered face, it seemed like she read that out loud without thinking.

"Yoon-Ah’ya, are you really asking us those questions?"

"Y-Yes! T-Those are important questions," she replied, obviously struggling to hide her embarrassment.

"Well... that’s uhm...."

"Ms. Yoon-Ah, that question is rather private, but I do understand the purpose of the question," Eun-Woo saved us all from the awkward situation. "As I said earlier, I love Ye-Ji’ya with all my heart, so I am not only after her body. In the case of children, she’s the one who’s going to carry it in her womb, and I know it’s not something easy to do. It requires lots of preparation mentally, physically, and emotionally, so I will not rush her for a child. We can take it slow, enjoy our married life, and build lasting memories together."

He said that with a sincere expression, I almost fell for it. What a perfect husband-to-be, huh? I’m amazed how he comes up with those kinds of answers.

"Wooooaaaah..." Yoon-Ah was so amazed by his answer that she slowly clapped her hands and gave him a thumbs up. "Ye-Ji’ya, you landed on a jackpot, huh? Daebak."

Following Eun-Woo’s flawless acting, I smiled sweetly at him and held his hand. He smiled back at me and kissed the back of my hand, making Yoon-Ah squeal in excitement.

"Aishhh... spare this single friend your public display of affection," she teased. "Anyway, next question—How are you going to handle your finances? Are you doing them together or separately? How are you planning on saving—though I’m not sure if you still need to save money since you already have too much of it."

"Ha-ha. Yes, we do have too much that she might find it hard to squander them all for the rest of our lives. But as for your question, I’d say we’ll do both. She has her own money, and she can keep it or use it for anything she pleases. But at the same time, she can freely use mine as well. I don’t mind. She can buy anything she wants. What’s most important is her happiness. I can always earn money anytime."

"Well, I won’t argue with that. Though it wouldn’t hurt to be wise with finances, right? We never know what may happen in the future anyway."

"That is true, which is why I already have that planned out and created a separate emergency fund for us should anything happen."

Eh? Did he really do that? I highly doubt though.

"That’s great! I shouldn’t worry about my friend having nothing to eat then."

"Hey, I earn my own money just fine. What kind of worst scenario are you imagining?"

"Just in case, you know. But wait, will you continue working even after marriage?"

"Oh, about that... I’m taking a rest for a year or two—I’m not exactly sure, but... I will come back."

The friendly atmosphere turned heavy for a moment. Yoon-Ah and I couldn’t help but sigh. She was familiar with my father’s case and the fact that I started working at Mythos because I was obsessed with giving justice to my father. She wouldn’t believe me if I said that I’d rest forever and bury it in my heart just like that—not when she knew how desperate I was for justice and vengeance.

"Of course, I understand," she said.

Then, she glanced toward Eun-Woo and back to me. With that simple gesture, I understood what she meant by it even without words.

"Does he know about it?" was what she probably meant.

I shook my head in reply and smiled bitterly. She would understand if I didn’t tell him—after all, she didn’t know that Eun-Woo was also an agent. She probably thinks he’s just a normal chaebol and had no affiliation with Mythos.

A brief moment of silence passed by.

"Okay then, going back to my questions," Yoon-Ah smiled enthusiastically again, bursting out of the depressing atmosphere, "How will you resolve future conflicts?"

’Conflicts, huh? How I wish every disagreement could be resolved by talking. But I can’t tell her that, right?’

"We will start with talking, of course. Open up what the problem is, then find a way to meet halfway. It depends on the situation."

"That’s true," Eun-Woo backed me up. "Though, we haven’t really fought seriously before. Most fights were just little misunderstandings. Should anything serious happen, the first step is always to cool off our head—don’t talk for a while and distance ourselves—and once we’re ready, we can sit down and have a calm conversation."

"Alright, that’s good to hear then," she nodded. "And make sure no violence! If I see even a single scratch on my friend’s body because of you...Hmph!" she squinted at Eun-Woo.

"I would never! I can’t even bare seeing her crying," Eun-Woo replied, acting like a harmless puppy.

What a bunch of lies. You loved seeing me crying!

I could still remember his words to me when we were fighting during my rank-up test. He squeezed my wrists so tight that I screamed in pain.

"Ha-ha. Go on. Squirm for me."

Not only that, he chuckled like a devil and looked down on me! A complete sadist!

"Phew. That’s a relief," Yoon-Ah believed what he said—my poor innocent friend.

I simply smiled along to indicate my agreement.

"Anyway, enough about us," I said. I’m so done with these weird questions. "How about you? How have you been? I think it’s time you tell me news about you."

"Ehhh... But there’s not much to say."

"Come on. You’re so unfair. I want to—"

Ring. Ring. Ring.

Yoon-Ah’s phone suddenly rang.

"Ack! My client! She probably wants updates on her commission. I’m so sorry. Let me take this call for a moment."

Just like that, she dashed out of the room and took the call, leaving us alone.

Agent Helios sighed as soon as she was out of sight.

"I gotta say, your friend is a little hard to deal with."

I sighed with him. "Haah... You got that right."

"There’s only one reason she keeps asking questions like those."

"And why is that?"

"She doesn’t believe our relationship that much."

"I think she’s starting to believe us, though."

"No. She’s not convinced enough. And her questions won’t stop until she’s convinced."

"Then what do you suggest we do?"

"Kiss. That’s the best indication of a lover’s relationship—a real lover’s kiss. Fake lovers always fail to do it, or if they somehow managed to pull it off, they wouldn’t be able to do it flawlessly."

"What the heck? Don’t you have any better idea than that?"

"She’s coming back. Come here."

He then pulled me close by my waist and lifted up my chin. I was sitting beside him at that time, so it was easy for him to reach out.

"Hey, stop! Don’t—"

But I was too late. He already caught my lips.
