Chapter 359: Bug spray (2)

Well, it wasn’t exactly bug spray since it wasn’t a spray.

It was more of an incense that I had burnt and had hidden away.

It was similar to a mosquito incense coil, but it was much more potent than that as it could work on all kinds of different bugs.

Before meeting with the bookworm, I had lit that incense that the system had given me and had been letting it fill this entire cave the entire time. Since the cave had been so big, it had taken quite a bit of time.

That was why I had been stalling for time with the bookworm.

It had been setting up its trap while I had also been setting up my trap.

The incense that the system gave me was a special one that was made of several different herbs, so there was no doubting the effectiveness of the incense.

The ones that were closer to the source, which was the flame barrier around us, had fallen to the ground. If one looked more closely, they would see that these bugs were already dead.

They had inhaled a toxic amount of the insect repelling incense and had been killed by it.

That was why they weren’t moving at all.

As for the ones that were further away, they only felt like their bodies were going numb.

If they continued to breathe the incense without moving away, then they too would be poisoned to death by it eventually.

As for the bookworm, it wouldn’t be poisoned to death.

The system had made sure of this since it didn’t want a repeat of the same thing as last time. It wanted to make sure that I was the one that took down the bookworm, so it made sure that it wouldn’t be strong enough to accidentally kill the bookworm.

But since the herbs used to create this incense were still much higher than my current level, it was still considered a waste and was part of the daily store. That meant that I didn’t have to use my own points to pay for it.

The system really was looking out for me after we had acknowledged the fact that we were partners.

Since the incense was taking effect, there was no need for the flame cage anymore.

I just let a small ball of flame continue to burn with the incense in it while releasing the cage.

The worms that were around us didn’t seem to react at all after the flame cage disappeared.

That was because...they too were dead.

Just like the bugs that had gotten too close to us earlier, they had taken a lethal dose of the incense and had already lost their life. The only reason that they were still forming a cage around us was because they had been locked with each other before they had died.

They had been locked together so tightly that they still held on after they died.

That was why they were still forming this cage.

However, with the incense and the flames, they had been completely charred black once their spiritual energy defenses disappeared.

That meant that they weren’t able to defend themselves against the flames.

Once the flames came down, I just casually pushed against the cage of worms that was around us and they broke apart. It was as if they were wood burnt to a crisp with how easily they shattered with just a single push.

The worm cage broke apart and we were able to walk out without a problem.

The four beasts looked at me with shock, but I didn’t care about that as my eyes were on the bookworm.

After all, even if it was being affected by the incense, that didn’t mean that it was completely unable to move.

As such, there was still the possibility that it would run. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

But it didn’t seem like the bookworm was planning on doing anything as it just remained there.

I just watched it for a while before moving forward, though that was mainly because I waited for the bugs to be completely infected by the incense. Once most of the bugs were down, that was when I started moving over.

After walking through them without a problem, I arrived in front of the bookworm to look down at it.

The bookworm was just laying there on its book as if it didn’t have any energy at all.

It was as if the bookworm was completely drained of all life with the way that it laid on its book.

U couldn’t help slightly knitting my brows as I opened up the map to see if the red dot was still there.

As I opened the map and saw that the red dot was there, the bookworm suddenly opened its eyes and looked up at me. When it did, there was this strange feeling that suddenly hit me.

It was this feeling like there was something penetrating me at first, but then it felt like there was this sharp spike that was being embedded into my head.

It was as if there was something that was digging into my brain.

I immediately knew that this was some kind of soul attack that the bookworm was using.

After it opened its eyes and released this attack, the bookworm started laughing, "Did you really think that you could beat me like that? Now I’ll destroy your mind and take over your body!"

As it said this, I felt my vision fading as if I was losing consciousness.

I never thought that this bookworm would have this kind of hidden card...

It seemed that I had really underestimated the bookworm.

"Partner, is there anything that you can do?" That was the last thing that I said before losing consciousness.

What I didn’t hear was...

"Partner, don’t worry. Leave this to me."

...

When the bookworm looked around it found that it was in a very strange place.

When it penetrated people’s minds and souls before, there had always been some kind of inner world.

But this person’s inner world was...completely black.

Just what was this place?
