What Do You Mean I Have To Comprehend Dao As A Mortal God?-Chapter 65: We Brought A Bunny Home
"That’s... A portal?" Maylene asked, staring at the portal that would lead to our World with wide eyes.
I nodded, "Yes. This connects to our World. Are you really sure about this?"
She gulped audibly, "You.... You said that I could return back here... Right?"
"Yes. The portal will remain open until we deal with the Gatekeeper that is somewhere in your World. You can just hop over and spend a night at our World before coming back if you want."
"U... Unnn... It’s ok! I’m ready!"
I looked back at my Guardians and all of them gave me a curt nod to show that they were ready as well.
I led the way through and stepped out of this World and back into ours, emerging on the same beach to find that it was already night time.
Maylene hopped over to our World, the bunny girl looking down at the sand in confusion before she slowly looked up and her eyes widened in wonder.
"Whe... Where... Where are we?" She gasped, her gaze locked on the stars above us.
"We call our planet Earth. We’re currently on an island off the main land of our country where we will be staying while we deal with this portal."
She looked around and saw the sea behind us, the waves splashing against the shore intermittently.
"Why is your lake doing that?" She asked, pointing at the waves.
"It’s not a lake. It’s the sea."
"What’s a sea?"
This was one of the things I found interesting about the portals.
When the portals opened and magic poured into the World, one of the side effects was that you would understand the languages of the denizens of the other World.
So it wasn’t like everyone was just speaking in English, it was just that the magic allowed us to understand each other somehow.
But the irony is that the magic doesn’t work for people living in that same world so if I didn’t know Chinese, I would not be able to understand someone speaking in that language who is from my own world.
If it’s Olivia though, she would be able to understand both of us and could even act as an interpreter between us.
So even though Maylene might not have heard of the term ’sea’ before, she could still understand that I said the word itself.
I smiled at her, "The sea is a large body of salt water that covers most of the surface of our World."
"Oh... How much water is there?"
"Well... About seventy percent of our planet is covered in water."
She turned back to me, "Planet?"
Olivia interjected right then, "Don’t worry, Miss Maylene. I can get you started on our introductory course and you will be able to understand what is happening in a while. For now, I suggest that we return to the chalet."
We did as she suggested and headed back to the building that we would be staying the night in, the bunny girl with us marvelling at everything around her.
Because of her size, it really felt like we were bringing along a kid on her first outing.
She was really cute and I almost gave in to the desire to hold her hand like I was bringing a kid along.
Good thing I managed to remind myself that this was actually a twenty year old bunny girl.
We reached the chalet and the first thing Maylene did was run a round around the building before she marvelled at it.
"What did you use to build this? What material is this? Why is it built raised off the ground? These pipes are... Oh! They’re for running water aren’t they? Where’s your micro-electrogenerator for the po--Ah, you’re using the power lines for electricity! Where does the power come from though?"
"One at a time, Miss Maylene," Olivia assured her.
A question also popped up in my mind right then as I turned to Olivia, "Are you staying overnight as well, Olivia?"
She shook her head, "Unfortunately I have another commitment after this so I will be heading back to the mainland, my Lord. I will return in the morning tomorrow."
I raised an eyebrow, "What about Maylene?"
"I will give her the course materials loaded up in the smart tablet, my Lord. It contains all the basic materials for new immigrants that have just arrived in our World."
Right... Considering how used to dealing with other worlders here, we already have several materials prepared for newcomers that we can just throw at them to read.
I was just wondering how we were going to settle dinner until Jia Lian and Leena headed to the kitchens of their own accord to start making the food.
As for the others, Olivia pulled Maylene aside to start her ’integration lesson’ while Ava and Kris set the table for us.
Sergei seemed to have been placed on cleaning duty as he took their equipment to bring it outside where there was a washing area to clean off the muck and dirt from our expedition.
I guess they already discussed about their roles ahead of time since I didn’t hear them even saying a word about this while I was with them.
Unfortunately... That also meant that I had nothing to do again so I decided to try meditating again after I send my family a message to update them about my current status.
I also informed my Guardians about my meditation before I went outside the building to find a spot that I could meditate in.
With the sound of Sergei cleaning the equipment in the background, I sat down on one of the benches and did my usual thing.
This time, instead of just waking up after I absorbed the Qi, I tried to maintain that meditation state for a while longer just to see if there were any changes.
One of the things I wanted to try was to see if I could sense life energy that wasn’t just in the air but in the things around us as well.
In those movies and stories, don’t people sense things even with their eyes closed or something? Like maybe I could sense life energy within living things as well which might function like a sort of echo location like how a certain blind superhero sees the world or something?
With that in mind, I tried to concentrate on the feeling to see if I could get into that state.
But even after sitting there for what felt like ten minutes, nothing happened.
I guess it wasn’t as simple as I thought it was.
I opened my eyes right as Ava was walking up to me to call me for dinner.
Even though I didn’t really need to eat because I already absorbed the Qi energy, I still joined in on the dinner with everyone else.
Honestly, it was a rather homely affair and the food was honestly pretty good as well.
When I praised the cooking, Jia Lian actually got a little embarrassed and stammered out something about her needing to cook for herself so she had plenty of practice.
Incidentally, Maylene was the one who enjoyed Jia Lian’s cooking the most as she ate up everything with relish.
I guess she really liked the food in our World.
After dinner, I retired to my room for the night and even though I didn’t need to sleep, I didn’t really have anything to do either so I just went to bed anyway.
I could still sleep if I wanted to so it was definitely better than just sitting around and twiddling my thumbs until morning.
As I got ready to climb into bed however, a soft knock came from my door.
I paused and wondered who it could be as I made my way over to the door.
I was quite surprised to see Ava standing at the doorway in her nightgown, the elf smiling down at me where the light from my room only managed to illuminate the bottom half of her torso down to her feet.
"Did something happen, Ava?" I asked.
"Apologies for disturbing you at such late of an hour, young God. May I come in?"
I stepped aside and she ducked her head to avoid hitting her head against the top of the doorframe and stepped into my room gingerly.
Closing the door behind me, I turned back to look at the elf that was not in my room.
"Is something wrong?"
She shook her head, "Not at all, young God. I am merely here to discuss some things if you do not mind?"
"Sure? What is it?"
"I was wondering if you might be open to exploring magic with me? Seeing that you told us you could make use of our awakened powers, I thought that it would help you if I were to teach you about my magic?"
I was a little surprised by that but I quickly nodded, "I had been thinking about that actually, I just didn’t have the chance to ask about it so far. So yes, I wouldn’t mind learning magic from you."
"Perfect," She giggled before she moved over to the bed to shoot me a smile. "Then what are you waiting for, young God? Take off your clothes~"
...
What?
