What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?-Chapter 809: Different Testing Styles
It took them a moment before they remembered that I was still in the middle of testing their Exo-Knight and they calmed down eventually.
Rosalia cleared her throat, "Ahem... Sorry about that, Miss Tera... Where were we?"
"Well... I completed the flight course I guess? And I suppose you would be telling me what to do next?"
"Ahem... That’s right. I’m uploading another course for you to take... You should see it on your navigation terminal right now."
Sure enough, the map let out a notification beep and showed me a new flight route that I was expected to complete.
This time, there were more checkpoints and it also looks like they will be starting with the same number of drones as I last left off... Which means this is going to be even harder than earlier.
Good thing I actually see this as a challenge that I have to complete so I’m not that dissuaded by this~
Friederike nodded at me, "Ready when you are, Miss Tera."
I took a moment to suck in a breath to focus myself before I pushed the throttle levers and engaged the Exo-Knight’s thrusters, accelerating through the first gate.
The drones immediately started firing at me and I kept my eye on them as I dodged and weaved through their lasers to fly through the checkpoints.
They seem to be even more relentless as they chased after me, firing their lasers at shorter intervals as compared to before.
Still, the fact that they were obviously programmed to target where I was made it easy for me to predict their firing patterns and avoid them.
I thus managed to fly through the next few checkpoints relatively easily but it got a bit more challenging as even more drones were added.
Now, it looked like I was trying to fly through a maze of lasers as they kept flashing all around me, their beams criss-crossing all over as I kept zigzagging through the gaps of their lasers.
I eventually passed through the last gate, having needed to do a flip to avoid the last barrage of lasers before pushing my thrusters to their limits and boosting through it, completing the course.
Unsurprisingly, the two of them were quite literally screaming their lungs out the moment I completed the course.
"Waaahhhh!! Oh my gosh, oh my gosh!! This... This is a miracle!!"
"There’s so much data!! Everything is working perfectly!!"
I don’t even know why they are so surprised about something actually working properly... Were they expecting this Exo-Knight to explode or something?
I mean... I pretty much figured out the capabilities just by flying the thing so I figured they should have an idea of what it’s capable of since they designed it and they are the ones who has its specs.
The two of them continued to marvel over the data I had just gathered for them before the inevitable happened... 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
"See?! I told you I was right about it!! Look!! Right here!! The data here shows that it’s possible to do it! It even reached a hundred and twenty percent efficiency!! That’s over your estimates!!" Friederike cried out.
Rosalia clucked her tongue, "I knew you would say something as stupid as that. Did you not even see that in order to reach that percentage, there’s a power spike in sector seven of the machine to push it past its limits?! Sure, it could work but repeated usage would wear it down! That’s what I’ve been telling you!"
"You’re moving the goalpost now! The problem from the very beginning was you claiming that it wasn’t possible!"
"The fact that doing it repeatedly will end up deteriorating the Exo-Knight means that it isn’t possible!!"
"That’s not what ’impossible’ means!! It just means that it’s not ideal but it’s still possible!!"
"Why would you even want to consider doing something that would eventually lead to the destruction of the machine?! We should be trying to overcome all the negative effects to preserve it as much as possible!! You’re just trying to get the results you want without considering the longevity and practicality of it!"
"That’s not the point!! You first achieve the effect then after that, you can work on fixing it!! Is this your first time making something new?!!"
I feel like the problem here is that these two have vastly different approaches to making something new...
I kind of get it because I’ve seen how Ries works so I understood that Friederike is the type who would plan out primary functions of something on paper, then make something to fulfill the primary functions at whatever the cost.
Even if that came at the cost of losing secondary functions or even if the primary functions aren’t able to function long term, she just needed to check the boxes on her list first before considering anything else.
If the boxes were checked, then it’s a success for her.
On the other hand... Rosalia is the type who would plan out the primary functions and then consider what needed to be done to support the primary functions without sacrificing any secondary functions.
If the primary functions that were designed could not be supported long term or it came at the detriment of the object’s secondary functions, she would deem it as a failure.
I could also see why they have different approaches since Rosalia would actually need to physically assemble the things that were designed while Friederike did not. So Rosalia would feel that she was wasting resources if she needed to scrap and rebuild them because something did not work perfectly.
Geez... I guess that’s why they can’t see eye to eye...
I cleared my throat again, "Ahem... So... Do you still need me to run more tests?"
They seemed to finally remember that I was still here and they quickly stopped their bickering.
"Ah! Miss Tera! My apologies! This is really unbecoming of me..."
"Sorry, sorry! We just get so fired up about it we forget ourselves... Ahem... We have a lot of data that we can go through for now so this is good enough for today. You can come back to the station."
Friederike scoffed, "That’s right. Thank you for your help, Miss Tera. Without you, it would have been difficult for me to show this stupid rabbit how wrong she was about this."
Oh great... I was already hoping that they would drop it but... Here we go again...
Rosalia immediately furrowed her brows and glared at her colleague, "What? How delusional are you? It’s obvious that this test proves my point, not yours!"
"Didn’t we just agree that my stats were right all along?"
"I just pointed out to you why it’s not!"
"No you didn’t! You just gave it an arbitrary condition to justify your claim. It does not invalidate the results."
The rabbit engineer shook her fist at the camera, "You!! This is why it’s so frustrating to work with you!!"
In response, the goat researcher jerked her chin at her, "I can say the same thing to you. Do you know how ignorant you are sometimes? Even after the stats are shown to you, you still continue to be stubborn."
"You fucking bitch! I’m going over there to pummel you right now!"
"Hmph, I expected no less from a brute like you."
Err... Can I just end the call now? I kind of want to go back now...
Unexpectedly, Friederike turned to address me, "Miss Tera. Could you come over to my research lab as well? We might as well get the pilot’s opinions on the machine too."
Rosalia smirked, "That’s right! Your practical experience with it will definitely triumph over whatever theoretical data this stupid goat has!!"
Ugghh... Can I say no? But fine... I guess it does make sense that I would also give my opinion about it...
Because I do have my own feelings about its controls like how the Exo-Knight felt it was leaning more towards the left where the shield was when I’m accelerating so I had to compensate for it by putting more power in the left most thrusters.
And also the fact that there seemed to be a lag time between the thruster switching so it was slower than I liked in slowing down.
There were also some other smaller problems but it wasn’t anything big so I was able to just deal with it or adapt to it which didn’t feel too much of a bother, but I figured these two would most likely want to know about it.
I nodded, "I’ll be there... But err... Where is it?"
Friederike waved at me, "No need to worry, I will call someone to guide you here once you have returned to the station. The stupid bunny will probably take her own sweet time to get here anyway."
Rosalia scowled, "Oh that’s it... I’m going there right now you bitch!! You better be ready to get on your knees once I get there!!"
The goat girl merely scoffed before the two of them ended the call.
I’m not going into another battle there, am I?
