Chapter 20: Fight

Jessica’s POV

I frowned, taken aback by the sudden change in topic. "What? What has he got to do with any of this?"

Liam’s face darkened. "You’re rejecting me because of him? Is that so?"

I rolled my eyes. "And so? What if he’s the reason? After all, he’s my boyfriend."

Liam’s expression twisted into a sneer. "You’re mine, Jessica. If you insist on him, then you won’t be having any of us in your life."

I laughed, incredulous. "What are you talking about? You’re threatening me?"

Liam’s voice dropped to a menacing tone. "You heard me. I can turn a blind eye to you dating other men for the time being, until your anger is satiated, but if you insist it’s Kristen, then...don’t blame me for murdering him."

My eyes widened in horror. "You’ve lost your damn mind!" I gasped.

Liam’s face was cold, calculating. "I’ll do whatever it takes to keep him away from you, Jessica. Whatever it takes."

Fear crept up my spine as I realized the depth of Liam’s obsession. He’d never shown me a speck of this, not even a tiny bit of love in the past. Why was he being so obsessed with me now?

No, this is unhealthy. He’s insane!

"Kristen hasn’t done anything to you, you freak. Leave him alone!" I spat, outrage and fear warring within me.

Liam’s smile was sinister. "Then, don’t make me do it. Stay away from Kristen. Otherwise, he’ll be dying, and it will be your fault."

My blood ran cold.

Suddenly, the door unlocked with a click. I saw what looked like a flicker of pain in his eyes, like he was suppressing something. "You... you can leave now."

I hesitated, unsure what to expect next. But I knew I had to leave before he changed his mind.

As I opened the door, Liam shoved a credit card into my coat pocket. "That’s your credit card. I loaded it with more money. The pin is still the same."

I felt a surge of revulsion. "What’s this supposed to be? A bribe?"

Liam shut his eyes, his finger massaging his temple as he rested his head on the seat. "You can come home when you’re done having fun. But Jessica, I don’t want to see you living in that hotel. You’re not allowed to stay there anymore. If you want to test my patience, go ahead and sleep there tonight."

The threat hung in the air like a challenge. From the tone of his voice, I could tell he meant every word he said.

I stepped out of the car, my heart drumming in my chest. "I’ll never come back to you, Liam. And I’ll make sure Kristen knows what kind of monster you are."

I expected him to retort but he just maintained his posture - head resting on the seat and his fingers working on his temple.

Getting no reply from him, I slammed the door shut and stepped away from the car, my eyes scanning the surroundings for potential witnesses or help.

As I walked away, I felt Liam’s gaze burning into my back, a chilling reminder that this wasn’t over.

I pulled out the credit card and tossed it into his car, then hailed a taxi and left.

...

Liam’s POV.

After the taxi took off, my breath shook, and I hunched over the steering, holding my throbbing head, the pain that was triggered from the screaming and yelling just now, threatening to consume me.

I sent Jessica away because I didn’t want her to notice my state. I gritted my teeth and searched frantically for my medication, darting my hand around the compartment of my car, but it was nowhere to be found.

My teeth clattered as I struggled to contain my agony. I bit the back of my hand to suppress a groan, my eyes growing heavy with pain.

Just as I thought I couldn’t take it anymore, my phone vibrated, shrill in the silence. I answered the call without checking the caller ID, desperate for help.

’Boss, where are you?’ Micheal’s voice was calm and soothing, a balm to my frazzled nerves.

"I...come down to Brookstone way, before the flyover," I managed to stammer, wincing as a fresh wave of pain washed over me.

’Boss, are you having a relapse?!’ Micheal’s panicking voice sounded a little louder, making me wince. I could feel his concern through the phone, and I tried to reassure him.

"Micheal, I’m...I’m okay," I stammered, struggling to speak through the pain. "Just get here."

’Okay, okay, I’m almost there,’ Micheal replied, his voice still laced with worry. ’Just hang on, boss. Can you stay with me?’

I hummed, my vision began to blur, and I felt myself slipping.

"Micheal?" I whispered, my voice barely audible.

’I’m here, boss,’ he responded instantly. ’Don’t fade out on me, okay?’

His words were a lifeline, keeping me tethered to reality. I focused on his voice, drawing strength from his voice.

"Don’t overspeed," I said, but I knew he wouldn’t listen. Micheal’s always been a calm and collected person, never one to be rattled by life’s challenges. But when it involves me, he transforms into a different person altogether - impulsive, anxious, and utterly consumed.

I’ve seen this side of him numerous times, when my health issues flare up. He becomes a force of nature, unstoppable and unrelenting. His rational thinking gives way to emotions, driven solely by the need to protect me.

The migraines hit me harder this time, making my eyes feel like they were being pierced by a thousand tiny needles. The pain was a living, breathing entity, writhing inside my skull like a restless serpent.

I squeezed my eyelids shut, but the darkness only intensified the agony. Colors danced behind my lids - vibrant, pulsing hues that mocked my suffering. free𝑤ebnovel.com

My head felt heavy, as if it was being pulled down by an invisible force, drawing me into a vortex of torment. Every sound was amplified.

I felt my body sway, my grip on my phone loosened and the phone slipped from my fingers, hitting the floor of the car with a low thud. The world spun around me, a maddening whirlwind that threatened to consume me whole.

"Jessica," my lips moved, the name barely audible as it escaped my parched throat.

I must save her from Kristen. The thought echoed through my mind, a desperate mantra. I must not die here, I told myself, summoning every last shred of determination.

With huge effort, I opened my eyes, fighting against the agonizing pain that threatened to tear my head apart.

Jessica can only find happiness if she’s separated from Kristen. If that’s the last thing I do for her, before I die, I must achieve it.
