Chapter 41: Fox girl

"Are you a prince?"

I looked at her in shock. Seeing the way I was staring at them made her even more frightened.

"Yes... everyone calls me a princess. Please don’t kill me."

She spoke with fear, turning her face to the other side. It was clear that she was terrified of me.

Aira looked at me and said,

"Ayal, you’re scaring her."

Aira looked at me while saying that. I turned my face away and said softly,

"Sorry."

Then I asked her,

"So everyone calls you by that name?"

"Yes."

She nodded her head.

Aira then asked her,

"Can I know what you were doing inside the forest?"

"I... I..."

She spoke nervously.

"Actually, I was trying to unlock my power."

After hearing her words, we all looked at her in surprise.

I then called Milia from inside the sword.

"Hey, Milia, can you tell me what kind of power she is talking about?"

After hearing my words, Milia replied,

"Master, the one standing in front of you belongs to a race called Fox. They have many different clans. The one in front of you is from a higher lineage. If you look behind her, you will see a small red mark. That mark proves her lineage."

I asked,

"Can you tell me if they have any special abilities?"

Milia replied,

"Master, if someone from their race unlocks their power at a young age, they become very strong. However, it seems that the girl in front of you has not been able to unlock her power yet. I can see inside her that someone has sealed it. That’s why she cannot use it."

Hearing this, I was shocked.

No one else could hear our conversation.

I looked at her and asked,

"So everyone calls you by that name... but do you have a place where you live?"

She looked at me and replied,

"Yes, I do. But..."

"But what?"

She looked embarrassed and turned her face away.

"Actually... I came here without telling anyone."

Hearing that, I was surprised.

"What do you mean?"

She replied shyly,

"I left my home."

"You left your home?"

"Yes. Actually, I want to travel to many places. Since I can’t unlock my power, I want to find a way to unlock it. After that, I will return home."

After hearing her words, we all looked at her again.

She had left her home and now wanted to travel across the world to many different places.

I looked at her and said,

"Did you leave without telling anyone? Does everyone know you came outside?"

"No," she replied.

After hearing her answer, I looked toward Aira and Hinata.

"Well... anyway," I said. "There was no one behind you, right?"

Aira looked at her and asked.

"I think... some of our soldiers were behind me. They were searching for me."

"What? Soldiers were following you?" Aira asked in surprise.

"Yes. When I first met you, they were already coming after me.

But... I don’t think they are behind me anymore."

After hearing that, I was shocked.

"What are you saying? Soldiers were following you?"

"Yes."

After hearing her words, Aira, Hinata, and I looked at each other.

"Aira... Hinata... how are we supposed to get out of this place now?"

As soon as I finished speaking, we started moving toward the exit.

Suddenly—

"Ayal! Behind you!"

When I turned around, someone attacked me from above.

I quickly raised my sword and somehow managed to block the attack.

When I finally looked carefully at the ones attacking us, I froze.

Several figures stood before me.

No... they weren’t normal people.

Looking closely, they looked like humans, but they had fox-like ears.

The one who attacked me first stood in front.

I stared at him.

He had large eyes and long hair.

A faint short beard covered part of his face.

His fingernails were long and sharp like claws.

I tightened my grip on my sword.

"Hey... you all look like humans," I said cautiously.

Hearing those words, he looked shocked.

"Humans?" he said.

"We are not humans."

"We are gods."

Yet... someone had just called them humans.

I looked at them and asked, "Who are you?"

There were many people standing behind him. I couldn’t clearly understand what was happening. Even the fox beside me seemed confused as we watched them. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

But before I could figure anything out, the man who had attacked me earlier stepped forward. He looked at us and said in a cold voice,

"We will not harm you... as long as you don’t do anything to our princess. We came here to find our princess. But if you have done anything to her... we will kill every one of you."

Hearing his words, I began to think carefully.

So they came here to search for their princess...

But their princess had left without telling them.

If I told them that the person who followed us earlier was actually their princess... what would happen?

I fell into deep thought.

What should I do now...?

I wondered what I should do next.

While I was still thinking about it, suddenly someone spoke.

"The one you came here to search for... is not in this place."

Hearing those words, the man who had been looking in another direction suddenly turned his head.

I also turned to look.

Then I saw that it was Aira.

"Are you telling the truth?" he asked with suspicion.

"Or... did you kill our princess like monsters?"

He glared at us with eyes full of anger.

For a moment, none of us knew what to say.

We couldn’t understand what was happening.

But suddenly, their eyes shifted past us.

They noticed something behind us.

"What is that behind you?"

When we heard that, fear ran through our bodies.

What should we do now?

"I’m asking you again," he said, his voice becoming colder.

"What is behind you?"

As soon as he said that, he started walking toward us.

I quickly stepped forward and shouted at him,

"You can’t come any closer! Stop right there!"

I raised my voice again.

"No one is allowed to go behind us."

There was something behind us—something we didn’t want them to see.

The moment I said that, his expression suddenly changed.

He raised his hand toward me, and his fingernails began to grow longer, turning into sharp claws.

It looked like he was preparing to attack.
