When the Side Character Gets a System and Travels through Difference Worlds-Chapter 68: Chi Mo 22
"Alright, I’ve given the children their presents. Now, I have some first-meeting gifts for everyone else." Tan You was a thoughtful person. Even though she wasn’t interested in Xu Jike, she wouldn’t snub him publicly.
"Since it’s getting so cold out, I got insulated flasks for the male guests. You can all pick a color." Tan You took out three rectangular boxes, which naturally contained insulated flasks in different styles.
Shi Lei smiled. "Well then, thank you, Little Chi. I’ll start using it as soon as I get back."
While the three men chose their flasks, Tan You pulled out a few more things. "This is a neck massager for you. You mentioned last time that your neck hurts from sitting for so long during your livestreams."
"This silk scarf is for Mengmeng, and this brooch is for Wenwen. I think they’ll suit you both perfectly."
Zhou Wenwen toyed with the brooch. "I love it, thank you. I also prepared some first-meeting gifts for everyone."
After giving out a pile of gifts, Tan You soon received a pile in return. She gathered the items in front of her. "Thank you all for the gifts. I’ll treasure them."
These were privately prepared gifts, not an official show segment. The production team was filming, but mainly for the behind-the-scenes reel rather than the main broadcast. As a result, everyone was much more relaxed and not nearly as formal as they were on camera.
"The official shoot is the day after tomorrow afternoon, so how about we have a free day tomorrow?" Gao Jing, who loved a lively atmosphere, suggested. "Momo mentioned last time that she wanted to take the kids to the amusement park."
"Sounds great! Tomorrow’s the weekend, so I’m free," Zhou Wenwen said, mentally checking her class schedule. Even though she’d fallen behind on a few classes, she was determined to take the weekend off, which meant she was available.
Lin Meng added, "I’m on annual leave, so I can come too."
Xiang Zhe glanced at Gao Jing. "Mind if we tag along?"
Shi Lei chimed in, "I can help carry bags and watch the kids. You all can just focus on taking pictures."
Lin Meng said, "That sounds pretty good. Momo, what do you think?"
Tan You was indifferent. "I’m fine with whatever. There aren’t many rides I can go on anyway. It’ll be more lively with more people, which will keep me from being a wet blanket."
"What rides can’t you go on?" Gao Jing asked.
Tan You squinted, thinking. "The only ride I can probably handle is the carousel. I’m afraid of heights and the dark."
Zhou Wenwen smiled. "The carousel is great, too. The photos will turn out beautifully."
"There are plenty of rides I can’t go on either, like roller coasters," Gao Jing said. "I tried one once and never dared to get on again. My heart just can’t take it."
Lin Meng added, "And I can’t stand those escape rooms that are popular now. Maybe I’m just getting older, but I can’t handle that kind of thrill anymore."
Tan You was happy that everyone felt the same way. It would have been a real downer if she were the only one who couldn’t participate. But since they were all more or less in the same boat, even the simpler attractions would be fun.
「The next morning」
Everyone gathered at the entrance to the amusement park. Not a single guest from the show was missing. As soon as Tan You arrived, the two little girls took her by the hands, leaving Dashuai standing off to the side, wanting to approach but feeling a little shy.
Tan You freed a hand to pat Dashuai on the head. "I’ll buy you a juice later."
Dashuai broke into a small smile. "Thank you, Momo."
’A name is meant to be used, after all,’ Tan You thought, unbothered that the three children called her by name instead of "Aunty." ’Besides, it makes me feel younger.’
At the park entrance, Gao Jing wore a serious expression. "You all have your phone watches. If you accidentally get separated, you must stay exactly where you are and call me immediately."
"In a minute, I’m going to buy each of you a balloon and tie it to your clothes. That way, I can see where you are at all times."
"And another thing, don’t accept food from strangers..."
BLAH BLAH BLAH. After about ten minutes of this, once Gao Jing was sure the children had committed her instructions to memory, she waved her hand. "Let’s go!"
The little girls, with their love for all things pretty, eagerly picked out balloons before making a dash for the carousel. Once they got on, both of them insisted on sitting with Tan You. Dashuai, being more independent, chose a small horse for himself next to Gao Jing.
Gao Jing was happy to be relieved of her duties. "Someone else is helping with the kids today! I can finally let loose and have some fun!"
Zhou Wenwen laughed. "Seconded!"
Tan You had Ningning and Tongtong sit in front of her, while she sat behind them in a protective pose. As the music began to play, the platform started its slow rotation. Tan You glanced down at the two little girls, and at that exact moment, they looked up at her.
Tan You smiled reflexively. Outside the ride’s railing, the quick-thinking Xu Jike raised his camera and—CLICK—captured the moment. It wasn’t that he was unaware of Chi Mo’s attitude toward him; he just wasn’t ready to give up.
Xiang Zhe patted his shoulder. "Make some memories while you still can. Once the show’s over, there probably won’t be any more chances to get together."
Without turning his head, Xu Jike said, "Are you sure you’re trying to comfort me? It feels more like you’re twisting the knife."
"I’m being serious," Xiang Zhe said. "With a woman like that, unless she decides to stop for someone on her own, nobody can change her mind. You can’t win her over with a few bouquets, a couple of dinners, sweet words, and small gifts. She has a world of her own."
"And if she isn’t willing to let you in, you’ll never get there."
Shi Lei added, "Xiang Zhe’s not wrong. You two aren’t a good match."
Xu Jike fell silent for a moment. "But you have to at least try. If I miss this chance, will I ever meet someone like her again?"
"This doesn’t sound like a top lawyer talking," Xiang Zhe said. "A guy like you must be a huge hit with women. Why be so persistent about this one?"
When Xu Jike didn’t respond, Xiang Zhe sighed to himself. ’I’ve helped as much as I can, but the guy’s just too stubborn to listen. What more can I do? In any case, I’ve done my part for Gao Jing. What Xu Jike decides to do from here on out is his own problem.’
As Gao Jing and Dashuai passed by on the carousel, Xiang Zhe raised a hand to wave. Dashuai glanced at him and sighed like a miniature adult. ’That uncle’s eyes are practically glued to Mom. Just because I’m a kid doesn’t mean I don’t notice things.’
After several rounds on the carousel with the little girls, Tan You felt a bit dizzy as she stood up. She held onto the railing to steady herself, and it took a few seconds before she felt like she was on solid ground again. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Zhou Wenwen poured her a cup of hot tea. "Are you okay? You spin so beautifully when you dance; you never seem to get dizzy then."
Tan You took a couple of sips of the tea. "That’s different. My feet are on the ground when I’m dancing. With this, by the end, I felt like I was floating in mid-air."
Lin Meng held out some mints. "Want one to clear your head? You look a little pale."
Tan You took a mint. "I just need a moment. I’ll be fine."
All in all, Tan You thought the day at the amusement park was quite enjoyable. Since everyone was in a more laid-back mood, they skipped the intense, thrilling rides. Instead, they just strolled through the park, hopping in line for any attraction that appealed to them and content to simply watch the more extreme ones from a safe distance.
