Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Chi Mo 25

Five o’clock was a little early. If breakfast wasn’t available, Tan You planned to go out and find something to eat. The room had all sorts of snacks, but unfortunately, Tan You wasn’t a fan of processed food. She much preferred hot meals.

She quickly combed her hair, put on a fluffy hat, and pulled her scarf up to her nose. Then, tucking her room key and phone into her pocket, Tan You headed to the Chinese restaurant on the third floor.

Her hopes were high, but unfortunately, the hotel’s breakfast service didn’t start until after six o’clock. It wasn’t even 5:20 yet. Tan You had two choices: go out and find food on her own, or wait at the hotel until breakfast was served after six.

A star-rated hotel’s breakfast, and a buffet at that? There was no way Tan You would pass that up. Besides, she was quite frugal, and it was just a matter of waiting a little while. So, she turned on her heel and headed to the gym. She didn’t dare to do any high-intensity dancing today. After warming up in the dance studio, Tan You got on the treadmill.

She simply walked at a steady pace, ensuring she was warmed up without burning too many calories. When it was almost six o’clock, Tan You pressed the stop button. She stood still for a few seconds to let the dizziness pass before slowly picking up the down jacket she had casually draped over the treadmill and putting it on.

Back in her previous getup and seeing that it was now six o’clock, Tan You’s pace quickened unconsciously. ’I’m starving to death!’ She had to go see what a star-rated hotel’s breakfast was all about.

With breakfast on her mind, Tan You’s pace quickened. She brushed past a figure on her way out, but why would she look to see who it was? She just jogged all the way to the elevator.

’Breakfast at a star-rated hotel really is something else,’ Tan You thought, carrying a small tray as she browsed the restaurant. Aside from all kinds of staple foods and pastries, there were also various nourishing congees.

Since she’d hit it off with Zhou Wenwen and the others, Tan You switched into early-morning food-poisoning mode, posting photos to make them jealous. In addition to her sumptuous breakfast, Tan You also took a picture of the restaurant’s overall ambiance.

Gao Jing, who seemed to be perpetually online, was the first to reply: "Such a feast so early in the morning. I’m just going to make some dumplings."

Tan You glanced at the message. "I woke up starving this morning. I was too exhausted to eat dinner last night after being out all day."

Gao Jing: "Taking a kid to an amusement park is exhausting. What are your plans for today?"

Tan You took a bite of a small soup dumpling. "I’m just going to rest at the hotel this morning and wait for the shoot tonight. I’ll check out at noon and then probably just kill time at a coffee shop in the afternoon."

Gao Jing was very warm. "Why don’t you come over to my place? We can go to the airport together later."

Tan You thought about it and agreed, especially since it was just the two of them chatting in the group at the moment. "Okay, send me your address. I’ll pack my things after breakfast."

Gao Jing: "Sounds good. I’ll send you the address in a bit. I’m going to make breakfast now. What would you like for lunch? Want to try my mom’s specialty?"

Tan You was already looking forward to it. "Sounds great! I’m not picky."

Chatting back and forth, the two of them finalized Tan You’s plans for the day. By then, Tan You had finished her breakfast. She cast a longing glance at the small soup dumplings in the buffet area and patted her stomach.

She just loved steamed buns, and she’d absolutely adored the soup dumplings she had today. You’ll have to forgive her for being so easily impressed; back when she was Han Tingting, her means were limited, and she’d never really eaten anything special.

In her actual life, she’d had even less. As a result, Tan You was undeniably a bit of a gourmand. She was especially blown away by the hotel’s buns. She estimated she’d eaten four small pork soup dumplings, two sesame buns, and two custard buns, plus a few other pastries.

Now, she was stuffed to the gills.

As for everything else, Tan You regretfully averted her gaze. ’I really want to try it all, but alas...’

At that thought, Tan You patted her stomach again. ’Forget it. There’s so much delicious food in the world; how could I possibly eat it all? A person has to learn to control their desires.’

Having convinced herself, Tan You didn’t linger in the restaurant any longer and returned to her room to pack. She always traveled light; after all, she wasn’t like Chi Mo, who loved to dress up meticulously, so she had packed very little.

As for clothes and shoes, Tan You had just brought basics. If she needed anything else, she could just buy it. After packing, Tan You wasn’t so thoughtless as to head over to Gao Jing’s place so early. Besides, she didn’t want to get caught in the morning rush on the subway.

Of course, Tan You didn’t stay idle. Instead, she started choreographing her next dance. As a dancer, she always had to be producing new work. Seeing as she was doing well so far, Tan You wanted to strike while the iron was hot and keep up the momentum.

She couldn’t perform any complex movements at the moment, but that didn’t stop her from designing them. ’I can just practice them later, once my back injury has mostly healed.’

Just as Tan You was getting engrossed in her work, she received a message from Teacher Xu. The gist of it was that Director Liu wanted to meet her and was asking when she would be available.

Tan You: "The shoot for the second episode of the variety show starts tonight."

Teacher Xu: "Director Liu is filming in X Province right now. He asked me to set up a time with you. How many days will the variety show shoot take?"

Tan You: "Three days. The shoot for the second episode ends on Friday. I don’t have any other plans after that."

"Okay, in that case, come to the set on Saturday. Director Liu originally wanted to come see you, but the production is just too busy, so we’ll have to ask you to make the trip. Please don’t feel slighted."

Tan You knew how to be diplomatic. "Of course not! For a famous director like him to want to see me, I’m nothing but honored. Let’s plan on Saturday, then. I’ll do my best to book a flight for Friday night."

Teacher Xu was clearly pleased. "Great. Let me know once you’ve booked your ticket, and I’ll pick you up from the airport."

"Let me tell you, Director Liu has practically worn out your two video clips from rewatching them so much. He stares at them whenever he has a spare moment." Teacher Xu shared this tidbit, partly as gossip, but also to convey how much the director truly admired Chi Mo’s skill.

Tan You was, of course, happy that others appreciated her work. A smile lit up her eyes. "I’m truly honored. I’ll spend some more time refining that ritual dance."

More than her appearance, Tan You preferred for people to see her work. After all, her looks belonged to Chi Mo, but her creations were the result of her own hard work, which gave her a much greater sense of satisfaction.

Teacher Xu was also very busy, so after confirming the time with Tan You, she got back to her work. Tan You shrugged and pushed her suitcase to the front desk to check out.

The subway station was just three hundred meters from the hotel. Tan You caught a train without any trouble and arrived at Gao Jing’s home before ten-thirty.

"You should have just come yourself, why’d you bring a gift?" Gao Jing chided affectionately as she took the gift from Tan You. She then warmly linked arms with her. "Mom, my friend Chi Mo is here! She’s the really pretty girl you were talking about yesterday."

A moment later, a woman with a round face emerged from the kitchen. She was immediately friendly, patting Tan You’s hair and giving her cheek a little pinch. "Even prettier up close. Our Little Chi is a real beauty."
