When the Wind is Sweet: The Fairy Tale of Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster-Chapter 972: The Pressure is on Mrs. Xavier
"I have fallen for Gia and wish to marry her." Nathan Xavier stated his intentions directly, not beating around the bush.
This overly direct attitude made both his father and mother slightly taken aback.
Nathan stood there, sincerity written all over his face, "I hope you both will grant your approval." After speaking, he once again bowed respectfully.
As expected, they had guessed it.
Mrs. Xavier’s expression remained calm as she turned her gaze towards her husband, the head of the family, while Simon Xavier’s deep gaze remained fixed on his son.
This morning was not very peaceful, and the atmosphere in the living room was somewhat strange.
Next, Nathan waited for the two of them to respond, only to see his father glance at his watch and say to his wife and son, "I have to go now, I have a private matter to discuss with Peterson this morning, so I won’t be having breakfast."
As soon as he finished speaking, he stepped outside, evidently leaving the matter to his wife.
Nathan watched his father’s departing figure, wanting to speak but holding back.
When he withdrew his gaze, his eyes met with his mother’s. "Mother, regarding what I just said, I’d like to hear your opinion."
His father’s attitude... was clearly to use avoidance as a way of refusal.
This placed the pressure directly onto Mrs. Xavier.
She met her son’s gaze, her lips curving slightly, "Sit down, Nathan, why don’t you have breakfast here? Today we have baked sweet potatoes, your childhood favorite."
"Mother, please don’t change the subject." Nathan’s tone was calm, but internally he was somewhat anxious.
The middle-aged woman sat down on the sofa and looked up, speaking tactfully, "It’s not that you can’t, both your father and I like her, it’s just that..."
"Just what?"
"Her memory hasn’t fully recovered, so we have no way of knowing who she really is." Mrs. Xavier said softly, "The daughter-in-law of the Xavier Family doesn’t necessarily have to be of equal status, but her background must be completely clear."
"With Gia’s upbringing, a family that isn’t respectable couldn’t have raised her. She’s a product of her environment." Nathan stated confidently, "She wouldn’t have any issues."
The logic is there, but still...
Mrs. Xavier asked, "What if she’s already married? What if she’s already a mother? Marrying her again would be bigamy, which is a criminal offense."
"How is that possible?" Nathan found it unbelievable, laughing, "Gia is so young. Mother, if you want to find an excuse to delay this matter, you shouldn’t speculate like this. She’s just a young girl; she can’t handle such accusations."
"I heard that Adrian Lancaster’s wife was the one who drowned and went missing, and she still hasn’t been found."
"What does that have to do with Gia?" he asked impatiently.
Mrs. Xavier remained calm and analyzed, "And Gia was found washed ashore here. The way Adrian Lancaster looked at her tonight was different."
It turned out, Mrs. Xavier had noticed something.
"I noticed that as well, but I don’t believe Gia is his wife."
Nathan was firm in his judgment, "Every arrangement by fate has its reasons. Gia is meant to be connected with the Xavier Family by an unavoidable bond."
To him, Gia was his destined mate.
Mrs. Xavier also liked Gia, and her son was so persistent. After thinking it over, she asked, "Have you asked Gia’s opinion? Is she willing to be with you?"
"..." Not yet.
The mother added, "Feelings cannot be coerced through identity, the Xavier Family saved her, and she will be grateful, but if she has no feelings for you, you can’t force her to commit herself."
Outside the door, Rhiannon Xavier, who overheard her mother saying this, turned around and leaned against the wall, not letting those inside discover her presence.
And the conversation inside continued—
