While I Was Giving Love Advice to My Best Friend, the School's Most Beautiful Girl Somehow Became the Closest Person to Me-Chapter 5Volume 1 .3 - A Night for Just the Two of Us
A Night for Just the Two of Us
“…I never imagined I’d enter a girl’s room like this.”
I would have preferred a different situation to ask for this.
Unable to run away, I carried what I had prepared up to Asahina-san’s room on the second floor.
I knocked on the door.
“Is it okay if I come in now?”
“Yeah, it’s fine…”
I hesitantly opened the door. This is Asahina Alisa’s private room.
Wow, it’s spacious. It must be more than twice the size of my room.
“I’m sorry for making you do something like this in place of Shizuku…”
“Otsuki-san mentioned that she works part-time at this house. Maybe I should get hired too.”
“Maybe I’ll ask you to come if Shizuku stops coming…”
Such lonely words don’t suit Asahina-san.
Asahina-san sat down on the bed.
“Kogure-kun, we can’t talk if you’re that far away. Come closer.”
“Ugh… You must think I’m a girl, don’t you?”
“I don’t think like that. Kogure-kun is a boy. You were very strong and manly when you held me today. It was cool.”
“Oh…”
It’s extremely embarrassing to be told that so directly.
Asahina-san is just too cute tonight. No, I feel that her honest appearance now is far cuter than when she’s trying to be cool and putting up a wall against boys.
Thunder rumbled again.
“Kyah!”
Asahina-san covered her ears. We could drown out the sound with music in the living room, but it’s not the same in the bedroom.
“Hey, Kogure-kun… Can I ask you for a favor?”
“I’ve come this far. I’ll listen to anything.”
“…I want you to hold my hand until I can fall asleep… Is that okay?”
Asahina-san got into the bed.
She seems to have become more spoiled. Maybe she regresses to a childlike state when she’s weak. It’s like dealing with Hiyori.
Holding hands with her is still pretty uncomfortable though.
“If it’s not okay, we can just share the bed like I always do with Shizuku…”
“Let’s hold hands.”
Asahina-san must not be thinking straight because of the fever.
This is the kind of situation where I’m dead once she recovers and comes to her senses.
I absolutely must not take up her offer.
But holding hands also feels significant. I’ll say it again, I’m a guy.
I took the hand Asahina-san offered me.
“Your hand is comforting, Kogure-kun.”
“That’s good to hear.”
“Boys’ hands are mysterious. I’ve only ever held Shizuku’s hand before.”
Emotionally, my heart is racing in a not-so-good way.
Until Asahina-san falls asleep, I’ll hold her hand and lean against the bed.
“I’ve been thinking…”
Asahina-san’s voice is a bit faltering, perhaps because she’s falling asleep.
“…Kogure-kun’s crush, you know,”
“…”
“If it wasn’t for Shizuku, maybe…”
“What? Does that mean…”
“…”
“Falling asleep right at this moment, huh? No, maybe that was for the best.”
Asahina-san is feeling vulnerable right now. It just so happened that I was the only one she could cling to.
Sigh… This is bad for my heart.
My relationship with Asahina-san is supposed to be just that of my classmates. At least, that’s what it should be.
Standing up, I turn my gaze to Asahina-san, who has fallen asleep.
Come to think of it, when Hiyori had a cold, she said she felt happy when someone stroked her head.
It’s not good to touch a sleeping girl, but… Asahina-san seems to be in a state of regression right now.
“Sleep well.”
I place a wet towel on Asahina-san’s forehead and stroke her head like I would do for Hiyori.
I gently stroked her, hoping she would return to her usual self by tomorrow.
Her fever isn’t too high, so it will probably go down by tomorrow. She’s also been getting proper food.
The rain will stop in the middle of the night… It’s one thing if it’s morning, but I can’t just leave the door unlocked and go home in the middle of the night.
Maybe I should lie down on the big sofa in the living room. When I wake up, I’ll get ready and go there.

“To be honest… I’m a little angry.”
Outside, after the rain.
It’s a clear sky, hard to believe there was a heavy rain last night. But there are puddles and the humidity is high.
Today is Sunday, but I’m sure she’ll still be there. It’s farther than I thought since I usually take the bus, but I pedal my bicycle and arrive there.
As expected, she was there.
“Good morning.”
“Eh!? Kogure-kun… why are you here?”
“Otsuki-san. Can we talk for a moment?”
“You’ll get in trouble if you come to school in casual clothes. Today, club activities start in the morning, right?”
“The club itself starts in the afternoon.”
I’m obviously not in uniform since I came straight from Asahina-san’s house.
I shouldn’t be doing this, but I plan to go home after this matter is settled, so it should be fine. I won’t talk for long anyway.
Otsuki-san is usually as bright and cheerful as the flowers she tends to, but today her smile seems a bit shadowed.
I know the reason. Honestly, I’d have to question her character if it were for a different reason.

“Did you had a fight with Asahina-san?”
“!”
She visibly flinches, looking at me suspiciously as if to ask how did I know.
“Fighting isn’t good. You and Asahina-san are always so close, so you should make up.”
“Kogure-kun.”
Otsuki-san fixes a sharp gaze on me.
