Who Cares About Him When I'm Married to the Richest Man?-Chapter 116: Yes, I Regret Our Divorce
Cecilia felt inexplicably uneasy, trying to stay calm as she asked, "Mom, Mason, what’s going on here..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Kylie Dalton suddenly slammed her teacup onto the ground, her face clouded with anger as she scolded, "You shameless woman, how dare you come back? Why didn’t you answer the phone this afternoon?"
Cecilia, feeling guilty, said, "Mom, this afternoon I..."
"Don’t call me mom!" Kylie glared at her with disgust and disdain, "Our Jacobs Family doesn’t have such a shameless daughter-in-law. After doing such a thing, you still have the gall to come back? If I were you, I would have found a rope and hanged myself already!"
Kylie’s words shocked Cecilia. Could they have found out? But... but there was no one else at the scene except Haylie. As for those thugs, they didn’t know her identity, so how could the news have spread?
Could it be that Haylie and Rosalind pushed all the dirt onto her to escape the scandal?
This doesn’t make sense either. If they didn’t want the matter to escalate and threaten Haylie’s reputation, they should have acted as if nothing happened quietly.
Thoughts flashed through Cecilia’s mind. She couldn’t quite understand what Kylie was hinting at and felt anxious about Mason’s stance at the moment. Even feeling guilty, she pretended to be nonchalant and said, "Mom, what are you talking about? I don’t understand." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
Seeing Kylie’s eyebrows furrow, Cecilia quickly moved beside Mason and said, aggrieved, "Brother Mason, others might not know me, but you do. Ever since I married into the Jacobs Family, I’ve been dutifully taking care of the home. Why is mom saying these things about me?"
What startled her was Mason, who upon hearing her words, didn’t even look up, flicking ash from his cigarette, said, "Do you really not know why mom is saying these things about you?"
Cecilia was at a loss for words. Was there something she should know?
Kylie looked at her still pretending, sneered, took out her phone, opened it, and threw it at her, "You refuse to cry until you see your coffin, right? Did you think that by not saying anything, we wouldn’t find out what happened? This video has spread like wildfire on the internet and caused a huge stir in Northgarde! If it wasn’t for the Jacobs Family and the Sommers Family teaming up to suppress the matter, the Jacobs Family wouldn’t know how much disgrace you’d bring! Cecilia, my son must have the worst luck ever to marry someone as promiscuous as you!"
Cecilia’s last bit of hope vanished completely upon seeing the video footage.
The video clearly showed her with Haylie last night...
She breathed rapidly, almost fainting, immediately checked Mason’s expression, saw his face was grim, and hurriedly crouched before him, "Brother Mason, listen to my explanation. This isn’t what it seems... The video is doctored, I’m not in it, please believe me. Someone is trying to frame me!"
Mason said nothing, coldly staring at her, making Cecilia feel inexplicably uneasy. She had never seen Mason like this; he had always been gracious and gentle in her memory, even if he was indifferent later, he never let her suffer.
Now, he looked at her as if she were a dead person.
Her worst fear came true, Mason knew everything, and... he didn’t believe her...
Kylie saw Cecilia still daring to seduce her son and immediately lost her temper, rushing over to slap her, "Cecilia, let me tell you, stop dreaming about being a rich housewife. You cause such trouble, don’t blame us for being ruthless!"
Cecilia’s defenses finally crumbled, she stood up abruptly, crying out to Kylie, "How can you say that? If it wasn’t for your daughter kidnapping me, how would I end up in this situation? The Sommers Family doesn’t know yet that it’s all because Rosalind! If you dare kick me out, I’ll tell the Sommers Family the truth. I wonder if they’ll spare you two deadly women!"
Kylie was taken aback by her outburst, thinking that she knew the reasons behind Haylie’s predicament, but didn’t expect Cecilia to dare use this to threaten her!
She was about to respond when Mason suddenly spoke, "Mom, why don’t you head back now."
Ever since the Jasmine incident, Mason had her relocate to another nearby residence, only returning today because of this matter.
Upon hearing Mason’s words, Kylie felt displeased, "Mason, I..."
Mason looked up at her and said, "I’ll handle this matter."
Kylie couldn’t feel at ease, "Don’t let that vixen deceive you. I know all too well that such women constantly study how to manipulate men. Don’t fall for her tricks!"
Mason said, "I won’t."
Still uneasy, Kylie wanted to say more, but Mason glanced over, his gaze slightly chilly, "Mom, please return."
Kylie recognized this as a warning.
Previously, Mason was obedient and respectful to her; no matter what she said or did, he never contradicted her in person. Everything she did was backed by him, but since his divorce with Elara Hale, his attitude toward her had noticeably changed.
Not only did he reprimand her, but he also kicked her out of the villa, making her live elsewhere, even repeatedly going against her wishes.
However, the more this happened, the less Kylie dared to say anything, feeling her son had changed significantly and had become more gloomy and fierce.
Facing Mason’s warning, Kylie could only nod, finally advising, "Don’t let her deceive you easily. Mom can promise you anything, but such a woman cannot stay. That’s all, handle the rest yourself."
After saying that, Kylie glared at Cecilia and grabbed her handbag from the sofa before turning to leave.
With her departure, Cecilia breathed a sigh of relief. As long as the old woman wasn’t around to interfere, she felt confident enough to clear the air with Brother Mason.
She stood up, walked over to Mason’s side, leaned in softly, with her eyes reddened in grievance, "Brother Mason, please believe me, that video really is doctored. Nowadays, AI face replacement is so advanced; I don’t even know who harbors such hatred to harm me like this..."
Mason looked up at her, his expression unchanged, neither embracing nor pushing her away, just smirked insincerely, "Still pretending even now? That video isn’t doctored, I’ve already had it authenticated by technicians."
Cecilia’s face turned pale; before she could speak, Mason gripped her chin tightly, a smile on his lips but his eyes cold, "Cece, be honest, how many men did you indulge with last night?"
Cecilia felt her chin aching, but facing Mason’s eyes, she didn’t dare move; her legs felt weak as if she could collapse at any moment.
"Brother Mason, I..." She tried to evoke his pity through tenderness, "I really didn’t..."
Mason’s gaze turned cold, he flung her onto the sofa harshly, looking at her with contempt, "Don’t call me that, how many times did you call another man’s name while you were beneath him?"
Cecilia’s emotions, strained throughout the day, finally burst at this moment. When the incident took place, Zayne Warner willingly took her in, found her a doctor, showing only concern and tenderness. Yet the man she loved didn’t even ask after her and only cared about the disgrace she brought upon the Jacobs Family!
Crying, she said, "Why are you doing this to me? I’m a victim too, it was your mom who had Rosalind kidnap me, they wanted to harm me. I was fine by myself, becoming like this was their doing, why blame me? Didn’t you say you loved me the most, wanted to grow old with me? Why... why do you only care about your reputation!"
When she cried, she did so quite skillfully, like a pear blossom in the rain, evoking deep pity.
If it were before, Mason Jacobs would have tenderly held her in his arms already.
But now, looking at her, images flashed in his mind of her crying and begging for mercy under another man.
A surge of violent rage coursed through his heart, his eyes turned blood-red, and he fiercely grabbed her by the throat!
"Grow old together? With someone like you who’s been with so many men, do you even deserve it?"
He loved the pure and innocent Cecilia Quincy, not someone who’s spread her legs for countless men!
He loved the Cecilia Quincy who was with him at eighteen, even after being apart for a few years, still retained her virginity upon reuniting.
Not the Cecilia Quincy whose body was covered with other men’s marks!
Cecilia could hardly believe her ears; she stared in panic at Mason Jacobs. Did such hurtful words really come from his mouth?
"Brother Mason..."
She tried to reach for his sleeve, but he slapped her hand away hard. Mason Jacobs grabbed her hair, dragged her to the ground amidst her screams, violently smashed her down, and then stomped on her back.
Cecilia was utterly stunned by the beating. Mason Jacobs had never laid a hand on her before; she had never even realized he was capable of it.
He had always been so gentle. Didn’t he say he loved her? How could he bear to hit her like this?
Mason Jacobs kicked her hard, one foot after another, as if trying to vent all his inner rage. Yet, in stark contrast, his expression remained as calm as an ancient well from beginning to end, only his eyes flickered with insane anger.
It wasn’t until Cecilia could no longer make a sound that he stopped, adjusted his tie, took off his jacket, tossed it aside, pulled over a chair, and sat down, panting slightly.
Cecilia’s entire body and head were covered in blood, her hair matted on her face, already soaked by it. If not for her body’s slight rise and fall proving she was still alive, this might have turned into a murder scene.
Her fingers twitched; she wanted to get up and ask Mason Jacobs if what happened to her was her fault. Shouldn’t he be punishing Kylie Dalton and Rosalind, the ones who harmed her, not the men who abused her, or Elara Hale who orchestrated it all, but instead half-killing the victim like her, was he right?
But she had no strength; she couldn’t move or utter a single sound. She heard Mason Jacobs coldly instruct the maid, "Throw her into the basement, let her hang on."
The maid pulled Cecilia up; her entire body ached, but it all felt numb. She felt sure the baby in her belly was gone, and she couldn’t even tell where the blood that stained her pants was coming from.
In the last second before being dragged away, she used all her strength and rasped at Mason Jacobs, "It was Elara; she arranged it, she wants revenge on you!"
She heard Rosalind Jacobs and Haylie’s words, knowing all this was arranged by Elara Hale. She guessed Elara was after her, but she would never tell Mason Jacobs that. She wanted Mason to know Elara was seeking vengeance on him, and she was taking the fall for him!
Even if she no longer had a place in his heart, she would never give Elara even the slightest chance!
And Mason Jacobs, upon hearing her words, his eyes shifted.
Cecilia was dragged into the basement, Mason suddenly laughed, picked up his coat, and headed out.
He drove at breakneck speed and blocked Elara at the gate of her residence just as she got off work. The screeching sound of his brakes stopped the car right in front of her.
Elara was startled, unprepared for something like this. Initially thought the person had drunk too much, until Mason Jacobs got out of the car, forcing her to take a step back.
She frowned, sizing him up, and asked, "What brings you here?"
He appeared off, his clothes rumpled, his face pale. He wasn’t usually so careless about his appearance. One could only wonder what he had been through to look like this.
Elara’s guard was up against him. Had his car not been blocking the entrance to the community, she would have run away.
Even unable to flee, she remained on high alert for his next move.
This man, running wild to find her so late at night, surely didn’t come just to have tea.
Mason Jacobs couldn’t help but laugh upon seeing her on high alert, "Are you afraid of me?"
Elara thought to herself that she feared lunatics, and said, "Do you need something?"
Mason Jacobs looked at her and, after a while, finally opened his mouth, "I didn’t want to scare you, so let me explain. Last night Cecilia was assaulted in an outskirt factory, and she said it was your doing because you hate me."
He stopped there, looked deeply at Elara with his beautiful almond-shaped eyes, his intentionally lightened voice seemed to carry a hint of hope, "Is it true?"
Elara found it absurd. How could he harbor such an unbelievable idea?
"What ability do I have to order someone to do such a thing to the Jacobs family’s daughter-in-law? Mason Jacobs, do you have a persecution complex, or do you think too highly of me? I’m just an ordinary person; after divorcing you, I’m just a regular wage earner. The salary I make every month isn’t even enough for your cigarettes, and you say I hired someone—where would I hire someone from? Cecilia committed too many insidious deeds herself, and who knows whom she provoked, now pushing it onto me. I’d like to be a scapegoat, but do you think I could manage it?"
She could no longer contain herself, which is why she spoke to Mason Jacobs this way. Normally, she would try to avoid any trouble, steering clear and avoiding everyone from the Jacobs Family, as after all, they were powerful, and she didn’t want to be an ant they could crush easily.
Today she simply couldn’t stand it any longer. How could something so ridiculous yet infuriating happen to her?
Having finished speaking, Elara didn’t want any more entanglements with Mason Jacobs, so she walked around him to head into the community.
Unexpectedly, after a few steps, a hand reached out from behind and grabbed hers.
Mason Jacobs’s voice slowly sounded, "Last time you asked me if I regretted the divorce, I’m answering you now."
"Yes, I regret the divorce, Elara. If I told you I don’t mind about you and that man, that we could return to how things used to be, would you be willing to come back to me?"
