Brain Control—a Spell Card that's been used many times in the anime. It costs just 800 Life Points to steal an opponent's monster and was once considered ban-worthy. Though it was nerfed and eventually unbanned in 2017.

That said, even in real life during the GX era, Brain Control hadn't been banned yet. It wasn't until 2010—deep into the 5D's era—that it got locked up.

Naturally, Kira chose to take control of the King of the Skull Servant on the opponent's field. The brainwashed monster once again staggered in confusion and stumbled over to Kira's field.

The original King of the Skull Servant looked as if his eye sockets were about to crack. If there's one thing worse than having your minions stolen mid-duel—it's getting stolen yourself.

And yet, it wasn't even over.

"Of course," Kira said coolly, "I don't have any 'Skull Servant' monsters in my Graveyard, so even though King of the Skull Servant is on my field, his ATK is just plain old 0."

"So, I'll tribute him for a Tribute Summon!

The mighty King of the Skull Servant had barely spent a moment on Kira's field before he turned into golden light and vanished. The bone towers collapsed, magic energy burst skyward, and a vortex split open to reveal a sorcerer cloaked in chaos.

"Chaos Command Magician, direct attack!"

A burst of chaotic magic blasted from his staff, striking King of the Skull Servants square in the face. The skeletal body reeled backward, his robes smoking from the impact.

I discard a card to return King of the Skull Servants to my Deck!

Then I activate Wightprince's effect in the Graveyard!

By banishing Wightprince and two other Skull cards from the Graveyard, I can Special Summon the returned King of the Skull Servants from the Deck!

I banish Wightprince, Skull Servant, and Lady in Wight!"

The three cards turned into dark mist and vanished, opening a swirling black portal. From it, a powerful presence surged forth—bone towers rose again as the king of bones returned!

But the card I discarded earlier was another Wightprinces.

So now I have 10 Skull cards total.

He slapped a card into the Graveyard and roared:

"By discarding this card, I can Special Summon a previously banished Lady in Wight from the banished zone!

So, I summon the queen of the skeletal realm—my beloved:

A skeleton with some elegant noblewoman flair appeared on the field.

Whether anyone could look at a literal skeleton and think what beauty... remained to be seen.

Lady in Wight raised her head coldly to assess the battlefield.

"Had to call me out, didn't you?" she said dryly.

"Haha, yeah... needed your help after all," King of the Skull Servants laughed awkwardly. "Now that my lady's here, I am invincible!

When Lady in Wight is on the field, all Level 3 or lower Zombie monsters—except herself—cannot be destroyed in battle, nor affected by Spells or Traps!"

An aura of undead magic surrounded them, shielding the King of the Skull Servants with an invisible resistance field that danced like a deathly cyclone between them.

"Your cheap tricks won't work anymore!" King of the Skull Servants shouted.

"Plus, since Whightmare was sent to the Graveyard, my total number of Skull monsters has increased again!

My ATK—up once more!"

"This ends now!

"Flip Trap Card—Sprit Barrier!"

Kira's Set card flipped open.

"As long as I control a monster, I take 0 Battle Damage!"

Chaos Command Magician was blasted apart by the King of the Skull Servants' strike, but instead of dispersing, the energy he released formed a spiritual barrier in front of Kira. The undead blast spread across the protective trap layer, causing no actual damage.

"Tch... so you're using traps to barely hang on another turn. Fine—turn end."

Kira pointed at his Set monster.

"Flip Summon— Dharc the Dark Charmer, Gloomy!

When flipped, I take control of one DARK-Attribute monster on your field.

I'll take your Lady in Wight."

King of the Skull Servant began rolling up his sleeves:
