[Vol. 6] Chapter 107: Why are there only six of the Seven Heavenly Demon Lords?

Violet alternately observed the six figures scattered across the battlefield, their presence not entirely unfamiliar to her.

The first figure that caught her attention was a shadowy, green mist that floated in the air, taking on a strange and eerie humanoid form. The figure had all its limbs intact, but no eyes, nose, or lips. Just an unclear face that seemed to gaze back.

However, the priestess could tell without any mistake that this was the same figure she had encountered before, the one that had tried to perform a live sacrifice back in Zengjia Village. It was stopped and defeated by Ling Feng, Bai’er, and a suddenly appearing Violet, though it hadn’t died easily.

This was [Hidden Fog], one of the Seven Heavenly Lords.

The second figure was a person dressed in pure white robes, with hair as white as an ancient elder’s. Despite his appearance as a hundred-year-old man, his skin was smooth and delicate, as if he were a newborn baby, something that would make any woman envious. He gazed at them both with curiosity.

This was [Apothecary], another of the Seven Heavenly Lords.

The third figure was barely visible. Before Violet could even focus on it, the figure seemed to vanish into thin air, like it was disappearing into another dimension. But the lingering sensation of a faint, almost hallucinatory presence confirmed its identity.

This was [Sky Wanderer], yet another of the Seven Heavenly Lords.

The fourth figure was a withered old man, thin as a skeleton, wearing tattered clothes that seemed to be a mere scrap of fabric tossed over him. His hair was sparse and dry, and in his hand, he gripped a bizarre bone staff taller than a person. The staff had several swirling banners hanging from it. A dark, ominous aura surrounded him, making the ancient battlefield feel even colder.

Though Violet had never met him, the pressure he emitted was the strongest and most intimidating of the six figures. While not as powerful as Peach Blossom Sage, he was certainly comparable to the black dragon or the golden-armored bird-man she had encountered on Peach Blossom Peak.

The fifth figure looked much more ordinary, the closest of the group to resembling a normal human.

She was a young woman with pink hair, a striking contrast to the people of the Western Kingdom. Her delicate skin peeked out from the thin, flowing robes she wore, and her figure was graceful and well-shaped. Her eyes were bright and beautiful, sparkling like peach blossoms. From any angle, she would be considered a stunning beauty.

She looked very much like a Peach Blossom Guard or perhaps a humanoid Peach Blossom Spirit, but Violet knew the girl couldn’t be one.

Because its true nature was not ordinary.

While ordinary people might not notice anything unusual, Violet immediately figured out the identity of the woman based on the subtle aura emanating from her and the context of everything that had happened.

She was a [Heart-Eating Evil Demon].

In the Ancient Spirit Realm, [Heart-Eating Evil Demon]s were rare but extremely difficult to deal with. An ancient and malevolent type of demon. Ordinary demons lacked reasoning and only followed instincts, either attaching themselves to or attacking living beings they encountered. No matter how powerful they were, there was always a way to handle them. But [Heart-Eating Evil Demons] were entirely different.

These demons had “hearts.”

They possessed an intelligence that could rival or even surpass that of typical sentient beings. They could even display emotions similar to humans, such as joy, fear, or anger. They understood how to take advantage of their environment and everything around them to protect themselves and help themselves grow stronger.

Even the weakest [Heart-Eating Evil Demon] was much more difficult to deal with than regular demons. In any country within the Ancient Spirit Realm, if the presence of a [Heart-Eating Evil Demon] was confirmed, all affairs would be set aside, and forces would immediately be mobilized to hunt it down and eliminate it before it could grow any stronger.

This was because the “heart” of a [Heart-Eating Evil Demon] did not come from itself.

As the name suggested, it literally stole the “hearts” of other living beings.

Like the most cunning predators, [Heart-Eating Evil Demons] would carefully select isolated victims based on their current abilities, kill them quietly, and physically remove their hearts to consume them.

However, this was not done merely to satisfy hunger. The most terrifying thing about [Heart-Eating Evil Demons] was that with every heart they consumed, they gained a large portion of the victim’s memories, knowledge, and skills. In some cases, they even adopted the victim’s appearance, taking on their form completely.

As the [Heart-Eating Evil Demon] consumed more hearts, it grew more cunning and powerful, becoming more and more like a real living being. Yet its essence remained the same, born from the forces of “destruction” and “twisted laws”, it was a cruel demon that stood in opposition to all life.

Because of its similar abilities, ancient texts containing hidden knowledge also referred to [Heart-Eating Evil Demons] as “Miniature Taotie”.

Any [Heart-Eating Evil Demon] that successfully grew to maturity would bring unimaginable disasters. This had been proven many times in the nearly thousand years of history in the Ancient Spirit Realm.

So, the delicate appearance of the woman before them was not her true form. It was the appearance of the most recent victim. The one who had been cruelly killed and had their heart eaten by this [Heart-Eating Evil Demon]. The demon’s shape could not be controlled consciously and would automatically change to reflect the source of the heart it had last consumed.

This was one of the few methods to fight and track down the [Heart-Eating Evil Demon].

It seemed that a member of the Peach Blossom Guards had already fallen victim to this demon, and this particular [Heart-Eating Evil Demon] could not have just appeared in the Ancient Spirit Realm. In fact, it might be the strongest one currently in existence.

As for the last figure, it was even more strange and eerie.

It appeared as a mass resembling water or some kind of viscous liquid, but it defied the laws of physics by floating directly in the air, forming a rotating circular shape like an empty water ring. The water ring had a diameter of about two or three feet and lacked eyes, ears, lips, or any human-like limbs or organs. There was no detectable aura, and even Violet couldn’t tell what it was at first.

Although this was her first time encountering the last five figures, Violet judged that, based on the identities of [Hidden Fog], [Apothecary], and [Sky Wanderer], these six figures were likely all part of the Seven Heavenly Demon Lords, or at least creatures of similar nature, possibly allies in their malicious endeavors.

After all, [Heart-Eating Evil Demons] were universally hated and feared by all living beings. Ordinary people either avoided them or attacked them in groups. No one would willingly cooperate with such creatures.

There was no thick smoke on the battlefield, and the six figures appeared at nearly the same time, locking eyes with Violet and the others standing at the center. They moved toward them in perfect unison, as if they had a shared goal.

A soft laugh from Xiao Kong reached Violet’s ears.

“So, they’ve already broken through all six gates. They find people waiting for them, and instead of running, they choose to fight… looks like these guys came prepared and are determined to succeed.”

“Yeah. They must be from the same group as the ones who attacked Peach Blossom Peak earlier. Look at that guy in white, the [Apothecary], didn’t expect him to survive that attack and still be fine. He’s quite skilled, so we’ll need to be careful with him.”

While Violet appeared calm and continued chatting with Xiao Kong, she had already begun to subtly adjust her overflowing magical power, preparing herself for battle. She spread her SP around, searching for something specific.

She was looking for the Western Origin Spirit Maiden.

After all, if their only goal was to invade the [Great Secret Realm of Chaos], these enemies could have acted at any time, so why wait until now? It was clear that the key to their mission was the missing [Hen].

They needed to find her in order to achieve their goal on this ancient battlefield, and since they had already taken action, it meant that [Hen] must have already arrived in this space.

She was… very close.
