Chapter 58: Peril

As Chu Yue and Lin Xiaotian continued to entangle the puppet, their movements remained sharp and controlled, carefully maintaining pressure without overcommitting into the overwhelming field of attacks. At first, the puppet responded in a steady and almost mechanical manner, forming seals at a constant pace while controlling the battlefield.

It did not move from its position, yet it moved the Whole terrain around it

Demonic hands rose from the ground in measured intervals, their movements precise rather than chaotic, striking toward calculated positions that forced both of them to constantly adjust their footing. The battlefield felt like a controlled domain.

Chu Yue’s arrows moved like flowing frost, each release smooth and precise as they targeted the puppet’s forming seals rather than its body, disrupting the rhythm slightly. Each arrow left behind a faint trail of cold that lingered briefly.

Lin Xiaotian matched her rhythm.

He moved just enough to draw the puppet’s attention, stepping into dangerous zones only to withdraw at the last moment, forcing the puppet to waste attacks while keeping its focus divided. His movements were deliberate.

For a while, it held but as seconds passed, the puppet’s pale gaze shifted faintly, as if something within it had begun to connect the pattern behind their actions. Its seal formation slowed for a brief moment.

Then abruptly accelerated.

The demonic qi around it surged violently as its fingers began forming seals at a speed that blurred into afterimages, each movement stacking upon the last without pause. The control turned aggressive.

The ground erupted without warning as multiple layers of demonic constructs formed simultaneously, not just hands, but jagged spikes and crushing formations that rose and collapsed in rapid succession, leaving almost no stable ground to stand on.

Chu Yue’s expression tightened slightly as she increased her firing speed, her arrows no longer spaced evenly but released in rapid succession, forming overlapping bursts of frost across the battlefield. The cold began to interfere with the terrain.

The ice did not hold long but it always gave that brief amount of time.

Lin Xiaotian stepped forward instead of retreating, intentionally drawing several attacks toward himself as he moved through narrow gaps between erupting spikes, his footwork precise down to the smallest shift. His eyes remained focused.

It figured it out.

The puppet remained rooted, yet the attacks had grown relentless. Entire sections of the ground began collapsing upward as massive hands formed in clusters rather than individually, slamming down repeatedly in overlapping patterns that forced both of them into constant motion.

Chu Yue shifted positions more frequently now, her arrows targeting the puppet’s hands directly as they formed, attempting to interrupt the seals before completion. Each impact froze the motion briefly.

But never fully stopped it. The puppet ignored the damage entirely, its body showing no reaction as the demonic qi continued to surge outward, feeding the battlefield continuously without any visible depletion.

Lin Xiaotian’s movements tightened slightly as the pressure increased, his dodges becoming sharper as the timing window narrowed with every passing moment. Even a slight delay would now result in direct impact.

This is getting out of control.

The puppet’s seals reached another level.

Massive formations began appearing beneath them without warning, intricate patterns lighting up for only a fraction of a second before erupting violently, forcing immediate reactions without any preparation time.

Chu Yue’s breathing grew heavier, though her expression remained calm as she continued firing without pause, her arrows now carrying denser cold energy to slow the formations more effectively.

Lin Xiaotian exhaled slowly, his gaze steady as he continued moving, drawing attacks, disrupting patterns, and buying time with precise decisions rather than brute force.

Lin Xiaotian glanced briefly toward Han Leu, who remained seated at a distance, his eyes closed as his divine sense spread deep into the corrupted ground, still searching for the energy vein. The battle around him raged uncontrollably, yet he remained completely still.

But then the puppet suddenly stopped forming seals altogether, its hands lowering slightly as the demonic qi around it began gathering inward instead of spreading outward across the battlefield. The entire flow of energy shifted unnaturally.

Then, a dense aura of demonic qi began forming around the puppet, condensing layer by layer into a visible structure that slowly took shape. The surrounding air warped faintly as the energy thickened.

The aura turned darker as it shifted and a deep purple hue emerged as the condensed demonic qi formed into a massive avatar surrounding the puppet’s body, its form towering and distorted, carrying an overwhelming presence that pressed down on everything nearby.

In its hand a gigantic qi blade condensed from pure demonic energy, its surface flickering with unstable power as if it could tear apart anything it touched without resistance. The air around it distorted violently.

Without hesitation, the avatar swung.

And as the blade descended the ground within a radius of nearly ten meters was completely destroyed in an instant, the impact tearing apart the corrupted earth as cracks spread outward violently. The shockwave alone shattered everything nearby.

Lin Xiaotian reacted instantly and without thinking, he grabbed Chu Yue and pulled her away at the last possible moment, his movement sharp as he barely escaped the edge of the attack’s range. The force brushed past them.

The ground behind them collapsed and for a brief moment, only dust and shattered earth remained where they had stood just moments before, the destruction leaving behind a deep, uneven crater that radiated outward from the strike.

Lin Xiaotian exhaled slowly, his breathing slightly heavier as he looked back toward the towering purple avatar, his eyes narrowing as he assessed the situation rapidly. "So, it evolved now..."

He huffed lightly. "What kind of nonsense is this thing running on?"

Freaking pokemon

Chu Yue stood beside him, her grip tightening slightly around her bow as she tried to maintain her composure despite the sudden escalation in power. The pressure from the avatar was far greater than before.

She attempted to give a faint smile, but it did not hold. The situation had become far too dire for even forced calm to remain convincing.
