Witty Wife, Better Life-Chapter 785 - 775 Complaining
Chapter 785: Chapter 775 Complaining
By the time Qiu Shuping left her old sister’s house, she had regained her composure. When she heard about what was going on between her old man and that Widow Xue, she was like a lit firecracker, itching to storm over to the Xue family and tear that old hussy into pieces, then return home to scratch that old thing’s face. This shameless creature dared to pull such a stunt while she was not at home, slapping her right in the face.
"Shuping, as an old sister, let me give you a piece of advice, you can’t tear your face off with your old man right now. Think about it, what good will it do you if you do? If things go south, your old man will have no shame left and might really go be with that old whore. That’s the Li family after all, and you, an outsider, can’t just be kicked out. Would you bear to see the family fortune that you’ve worked so hard for your whole life get snatched away by others?" Her old sister’s comforting words still echoed in her ears.
Unwilling, how could she possibly be willing? Why should she, after exhausting herself for the Li family, bearing and raising children, serving the old and the young with everything neatly done, now awaiting her moment to enjoy life, have someone else try to snatch it away from her? She was not willing.
However, her old sister’s words also made sense; her husband was a selfish man, and if she really made a big fuss, the outcome might not be in her favor.
As Qiu Shuping pondered, her emotions gradually settled, or at least she appeared to be fine. After bidding her old sister farewell, she left for home, needing to mull over what to do about this whole mess.
At her age, men didn’t matter anymore; they were basically useless, just decorations. But her home, her money, and her possessions couldn’t fall into others’ hands.
That afternoon, after Li Hongjun reported on the mission, he hurried home without a moment’s delay.
Having been away for over a month, it was impossible for him not to miss his wife and children. Habit is a terrifying thing. Previously, when he was frequently away on missions, being gone for several months to half a year was normal, so even though he missed his family, he didn’t worry, trusting that his wife could take care of the household. But after living a ’normal’ life in Z Province for two or three years, he had become overly accustomed to this routine. When he found out he could lead a team on a mission again, he was thrilled, finally having the chance to prove his worth again. Yet, once he was actually away from home, he couldn’t help but start to worry and miss them.
Without him, his wife had to work and cook for the children all by herself; could she manage? He hoped they didn’t skip any meals. There weren’t any issues at her workplace on the farm, right? If something came up, did she know to ask his comrades for help?
While these were not usually matters of concern, they continuously slipped through his mind. On the mission, he forced himself not to think about them, to trust his wife. But during breaks, he couldn’t help but dwell on them, always feeling that if he didn’t handle these things himself, things could go wrong, and his wife might end up bullied and crying upon his return.
Tormented by these thoughts, he finally completed the mission and returned with his team. If it weren’t for having to report to his superiors first, he would’ve rushed home to see his wife and children.
"Why are you home at this time? Did something happen?" Li Hongjun entered the house and, seeing his wife lying in bed, his rationale clicked into place as he recalled that she should be at the farm at this time. Why would she be lying at home? His first thought was that there must be trouble at home or with his wife.
At this thought, he became nervous, not even bothering to take off his shoes as he ran to the bedside and carefully looked her over from head to toe.
Shen Yunfang hadn’t expected Li Hongjun to come home so early; she had thought it would be good enough if he could make it back for dinner. Seeing that there was nothing much to do, she planned to take a nap after the kids had gone to school, but just as she was about to drift off, he came back.
"Why are you back so early? Have you eaten? If not, I’ll get you something to tide you over," Shen Yunfang said, rubbing her eyes as she prepared to get up and fetch some food for him.
"I ate at the canteen. I’m asking you, why aren’t you at work? Are you not feeling well?" Li Hongjun couldn’t care less about eating at that moment, his concerns were all for his wife.
"I’m not unwell. It’s just that your son had an accident, so I took a few days off to look after him. He insisted on going back to school after just a day at home, and then I had nothing to do. Since I was either going to make it or not, I just slacked off at home for a few days," Shen Yunfang said as she sat up and looked her husband over.
Well, he wasn’t missing any limbs, but he seemed to have lost some weight; he must have suffered. Alright, seeing as she was at home, she might as well fatten him up along with the kids. Shen Yunfang cheerfully made this decision for herself.
Li Hongjun had no idea what she was thinking. Hearing his wife mention an accident, he immediately asked, "What happened? Did the kid get hurt being naughty?" That was the first thing that came to his mind; the compound was safe, so if the child was hurt, it was likely due to his own mischief.
"Not at all, your son is as nimble as a monkey; when has he ever hurt himself by being naughty? Some people came to the military compound to bully your wife and child. Now that you are back, you have to seek justice for us," Shen Yunfang then pretended to sob for effect.
"Stop messing around and tell me what really happened," Li Hongjun said with some resignation. He moved forward to hold his wife and they lay down on the bed together. With nothing to do that afternoon, he could have a good chat with her.
Shen Yunfang, having had her fun, quickly relayed the whole story of Shen Yingxue coming to the compound, how Li Xianghe had been complicit in letting people in, and how Pangpang had been injured.
The more Li Hongjun heard, the darker his face became, ending up as black as the bottom of a pot, infuriated by his sister, as well as by that reckless Shen Yingxue. He had been lenient because of her association with his wife and being a fellow woman, giving her a break in the affair with Vice Mayor Chen by just leaving her with nothing instead of imprisoning her. Now, his kindness had resulted in his child getting hurt, which he couldn’t accept.
"Alright, stop sulking now. When Shen Yingxue hurt someone, it was inside the compound, and after the incident, the military people took her away. They came to question me later and I told the truth. I think Shen Yingxue won’t end up well. Pangpang is okay now, and we should just live our lives without stooping to their level," Shen Yunfang patted the man next to her, trying to console him with her words.
Although she had just said she wanted her husband to stand up for her and their child, she knew that in a society governed by law, there was nothing Li Hongjun could do about it even if he was angry. Talking about it further would only make him feel worse. So she decided not to think about it and see what end Shen Yingxue and people like her would meet.
