Chapter 656: Chapter 14: Remiller

The bright lights illuminated the night like day, optical technology made the streetlights soft and non-glaring.

At the hotel entrance.

Remiller took the offered trench coat and draped it over his shoulders:

"No need to see me off."

"Take care." Carl nodded:

"That matter, I’m counting on you."

"No problem." Remiller smiled faintly, waved to the approaching taxi, and casually asked:

"We’ve known each other for so long, this small favor is nothing, just didn’t expect you to be so interested in genetics."

"Heh..." Carl laughed:

"I want an answer, but unfortunately, the person in the know wouldn’t tell me, so I have to find it myself."

"An answer?" Remiller’s eyes grew deep:

"Sometimes it’s better not to know."

"Zzz..."

The taxi stopped.

The ’Black Wizard’ Abbott, dressed in a car rental company uniform, quickly exited the car and courteously opened the door.

"Honorable Miss, please get in."

"Hmm."

Remiller nodded, turned sideways, slowly stepped into the back seat, rolled down the window, and waved goodbye to Carl.

"Miss, where to?"

"Inner Court District, No. 12 Mu Street."

Inner Court District?

’Black Wizard’ eyes flickered slightly.

With technological advancement and a productivity boom, it’s rare for someone to starve to death in this society now.

But that doesn’t mean there are no slums.

Inner Court District,

is equivalent to the slums of Fast City, where most inhabitants are the lowest stratum of society.

Chaos, filth, crime...

All gathered together.

Under the control of the ’Black Wizard,’ the taxi moved silently forward like a specter.

He didn’t act against Carl.

Merely because Carl’s guest bore a strong resemblance to that person, the ’Black Wizard’ hesitated to act rashly.

To commit murder in the face of ’that person,’ even if it’s just a resemblance, felt like blasphemy.

A crime!

Instead, he attempted to make contact by posing as a taxi driver.

Driving cautiously, the ’Black Wizard’ glanced at the resting Remiller through the rearview mirror, amazed once more by her resemblance.

"Miss."

After some thought, he spoke slowly:

"With your appearance, you could completely leave the Inner Court District; you deserve a better living environment."

"..." Remiller opened her eyes, clear and pure, as transparent as her demeanor:

"Just drive properly, don’t talk too much."

"Yes."

The ’Black Wizard’ instinctively agreed.

Then, feeling anxious, he reminded himself that he was, after all, the Temple of Gods’ regional head, a powerful Third Tier force, and it was preposterous to fear a young girl.

His fingers twitched, yet he suppressed his discontent because she resembled that being too closely.

So much so, he couldn’t feel hostile.

"Zzz..."

The taxi stopped in front of an orphanage.

The ’Black Wizard’ got out, opened the door, and bowed as he guided Remiller down, seeing several children bouncing over.

"Aunt Louis!"

"Teacher!"

"..."

"Be good." Remiller smiled, taking a few elaborately packaged candies from her pocket and handing them out:

"Were you obedient today? Did you finish your homework?"

"Obedient!"

"All done."

The children laughed as they took the candies, surrounding Remiller and heading toward the orphanage.

This scene left the ’Black Wizard’ slightly dazed.

’The pure angel turned into the form of a child, gathered beside the god reporting everything that happened in the world.’

"Miss Louis!"

Faced with a sudden decision, the ’Black Wizard’ stepped forward:

"Your kindness moved me. I am willing to fund an orphanage in a prosperous district to provide these children a better life."

Remiller paused.

She stroked a child’s head beside her, telling them to rest before she turned to look at the ’Black Wizard.’

"Abbott, as I recall, your daughters are ordinary people?"

?

Abbott suddenly looked up, his body trembling slightly, a warm flow arising from his heart to his eyes.

"Master..."

His lips quivered, tears flowing from his eyes as he knelt and choked up:

"Oh, great master!"

He never mentioned his name, so it wasn’t just resemblance, it was inherently him!

"Have you captured a person named Barro?"

Remiller asked:

"Release him."

"Yes." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

’Black Wizard’ Abbott muffled a response:

"As you command, master."

"Leave here." Remiller waved:

"Regardless of wealth or poverty, every child is worthy of expectation, and should not differ due to status."

"I like it here, and do not plan to move."

"Yes."

Abbott responded again, not daring to doubt her words, for God’s actions are always right.

"Oh, master!"

"May the servant come to see you in the future?"

"If I want to see you, you will naturally meet me." Remiller’s voice was calm as she strolled to the orphanage.

"Master!"

’Black Wizard’ Abbott looked up and asked again:

"That Professor Carl..."

"He is a friend of mine." Remiller paused slightly, a different emotion in her voice:

"A friend I’ve known for many years."

Many years?

’Black Wizard’ was bewildered, knowing of the ’master’s existence since his memory—an ancient Divine.

So then...

Could that Professor Carl be of this kind of existence as well?

"Do you need?"

"No need." Remiller clearly understood the servant’s thoughts and spoke calmly:

"Do not contact him."

"Yes."

’Black Wizard’ bowed his head.

Barro was immersed in a large glass container, surrounded by a pale green liquid.

A gag kept his mouth open, and a tube extended from his throat into his stomach.

Infusion tubes penetrated his abdomen, back, wrist, and heart, with blood flowing through them.

His limbs and abdomen were covered in wounds, flesh turned out, revealing vibrant tissues within.

Enduring torture over time, he no longer looked human or ghostly, thinking countless times it would be better to die.

But, alas,

Here, he couldn’t even die if he wanted to.

The liquid enveloping him numbed his nerves while providing continual nourishment to his body.

"The test subject can switch between multiple states, usually displaying a human form."

"When angry or agitated, his body undergoes cellular changes, each organ responding accordingly."

"His ears can hear sounds unnoticed by others, and his nose can detect scents missed by common folk..."

"Animal testing has made preliminary progress..."

Professor Jim stood before the display, grimly examining various experimental data.

The experiment’s progress was unfavorable.

Yet,

There was progress!

"Swipe!"

A figure appeared abruptly in the lab, waving to extract Barro from the glass container.

Simultaneously raising the magic wand softly.

Second Ring Magic—Healing!

The soft glow fell on Barro, merging into his body, turning into a nourishing flow healing his injured organs and tissues.

"Mr. Abbott."

Professor Jim’s expression shifted dramatically:

"What are you doing?"

"It’s over." Black Wizard Abbott spoke slowly:

"Professor, if you wish to continue experimenting, I can offer support, but this person must be sent back."

"This won’t do!" Jim hastily said:

"Without Barro, my experiment cannot proceed."

"Then there is no choice." Black Wizard Abbott shook his head:

"He is embroiled in many troubles and cannot remain here; the professor must find another way."

With that, he gave Jim no chance to explain, summoning a scroll to enclose Barro.

In a flash, he disappeared.

Watching the empty lab, Jim’s body trembled, eyes filled with unwillingness, eventually turning into a roar.

"Ah!"

"I won’t let Barro go!"

The experiment,

was his everything.

Barro’s results were the culmination of Jim’s lifelong pursuit, and he could never abandon them so easily.
