Wizard: Starting from the Skill Tree-Chapter 420: Undead
The Magma Lizard was also very large, occupying a vast space on the street when it appeared.
The high temperatures on its body ignited the dry grass on the rooftop of a nearby building, instantly setting the house ablaze, and the fire quickly spread.
At that moment, a terrifying scream came from inside the house, as if the sound was piercing into the minds of everyone present.
Even Duke felt a slight headache, indicating that the scream contained a Spirit attack.
He immediately became alert, looking at the burning house, and a figure rushed out from inside.
When the figure approached, everyone finally saw its appearance clearly.
This was someone wearing Toulouse civilian clothes, but strictly speaking, it could no longer be called a human.
Because his head was only half intact, the other half seemed to have been bitten off by some creature, revealing the contents inside, blood trickling down.
However, as soon as this blood reached the ground, it turned into black smoke and disappeared, not seeming like real blood.
The Three-headed Magma Lizard reacted swiftly, spewing out a gigantic Fireball that hit the figure directly as it charged over.
Flames instantly engulfed this seemingly undead existence, burning it to ashes in an instant.
A moment later, only some black ashes remained on the ground.
A gust of wind blew through the town, spreading these black ashes all the way to the end of the street, where they vanished.
"This is... an Undead Element creature; it seems more like an amalgamation of hatred and other Negative Energy, but it’s quite different from regular Undead Element creatures," Leonard remarked after observing the previous sequence of events.
He hailed from the Silver Hand, previously purely a White Wizard Organization, adversaries of the Doomsday Bell.
In their prolonged struggles against the Black Wizards, they accumulated considerable knowledge about Undead Element and Negative Energy Element, making them somewhat familiar with Undead Element creatures.
Yet, the undead just now differed from ordinary undead, though Leonard couldn’t pinpoint exactly where.
Duke speculated, "Likely due to the Erosion Energy pollution here, so it can’t simply be regarded as an undead."
Duke’s speculation was soon confirmed.
The eerie figure that rushed out from the burning house seemed to be just the beginning.
As the first wisp of black smoke dissipated, more chilling sounds emerged from every corner of the town.
A half-collapsed courtyard gate slowly creaked open from inside, and a figure of a woman wearing an apron and holding a rusty kitchen knife staggered out.
Her belly was entirely split open, intestines dragged across the ground, yet she seemed utterly oblivious, hollow eye sockets locked onto Duke and the others, the knife reflecting a ghostly light in the pale moonlight.
Overhead, the Storm Dragon Eagle promptly noticed the presence of this undead and, with a screech, flapped its wings, striking the undead with a bolt of Lightning, reducing it to a pile of charred remains.
The remains quickly turned into black ashes, which, like the previous undead, were blown away and vanished.
But this was only one among the numerous Undead Element creatures appearing around; one after another, undead seemed to awaken and emerge.
In a corner piled with dismembered limbs, those fragmented bodies appeared summoned somehow, writhing and reassembling, forming a massive flesh ball dripping with black slime, dozens of eyes full of spite opening on its surface.
Elsewhere, a half-blocked well filled with corpses saw a little girl crawl out, skin bloated and pale.
Clutching a ragged doll, she emitted a heart-wrenching sob; yet when she lifted her head, it exposed a ghastly grin, lips torn all the way to her ears.
A variety of residents began to appear, some maintaining relatively intact human forms, though with tragically mangled states.
Others were utterly twisted, morphing into indescribable monstrosities.
Their only shared trait was the pervasive aura of resentment, death, and the uniquely void and cold presence induced by the Erosion Energy pollution.
Emerging from burning houses, crawling from the blood-stained street’s horizon, coalescing from shadows.
It was as if the entire town’s death had been activated, transforming into a vengeful undead army.
"Damn it! How can there be so many!" Leonard cursed, shocked by the sheer number of Undead Element creatures, hastily conjuring a white Longsword, a Magic specifically to counteract Undead Element creatures.
Ella was pale with fright, hiding behind her brother as if her mind had stalled, momentarily forgetting her ability to wield magic.
Duke remained composed, silently retrieving the Blazing Sun Judgment, a Level 2 Witchcraft Artifact, radiating Light Attribute energy which felt warm upon appearance.
Upon examining, Duke noted that even the surrounding Erosion Energy aura seemed to recede slightly with the presence of the Blazing Sun Judgment.
This led him to speculate, "Could the Erosion Energy be part of the Negative Energy element?"
The Blazing Sun Judgment naturally suppressed Negative Energy Element and Undead Element, and signs thus far suggested that even if Erosion Energy wasn’t exclusively Negative Energy, it was closely related.
But this was merely a conjecture, requiring further investigation and study.
Returning to the current scenario, Duke noted he wasn’t needed to act yet as the Storm Dragon Eagle and Three-headed Magma Lizard were sufficiently handling the situation, annihilating one undead creature after another.
These two Level 1 Peak slave creatures were indeed powerful, and their energy attacks were predominantly Thunder and Fire Elements, effectively countering Undead Element creatures.
While not as potent as the Light Attribute’s counteraction, they were adequate against these ordinary undead.
Yet, the undead appeared endless, seemingly impossible to eradicate fully.
The Storm Dragon Eagle and Three-headed Magma Lizard had vanquished numerous undead, yet they continued to emerge incessantly from all sides, killing them to no end.
The undead’s numbers didn’t diminish, instead continually increasing, causing even the Storm Dragon Eagle and Three-headed Magma Lizard to struggle.
"Brother... these are the people killed during the day; I remember..." Ella’s voice trembled violently, her fear palpable, clutching Leonard’s sleeve with whitening fingers.
Her reminder suddenly made Leonard realize that these relentless, grotesque undead creatures—among their torn clothes and vaguely identifiable facial features—could indeed correspond with the civilians slaughtered earlier that day.
