World Awakening: The Legendary Player-Chapter 102: Interrogation
Chapter 102: Interrogation
The hunt for the next alpha had led them to a part of the forest that felt old and quiet, not to mention the creature they found was no joke. It was a massive deer. Its fur was patchy and dark, its body covered in the same pulsating black veins as the Great Root, and its antlers were not bone, they were jagged spikes of black, sharp-looking crystal.
Its eyes were pools of red light that radiated pure hate.
It was so much faster than the toad, a blur of dark fur and sharp antlers that moved through the trees like a ghost.
"It’s too fast!" Serian yelled, ducking as one of those crystal antlers sliced through the air right where her head had been.
The thing was terrifyingly quick for its size.
Nox dodged another charge, his gauntlets glowing with red energy. "I noticed!" He lunged forward, swinging a heavy fist at the creature’s flank.
The gauntlet hit the deer’s side with a loud sound, but it was like punching a stone wall. The deer just grunted in annoyance and spun around, its back legs kicking out with enough force to shatter a tree trunk.
He Void Stepped out of the way just in time, reappearing a dozen feet away.
’These things are useless against it,’ he thought, looking down at the gauntlets. ’Resistant to blunt force is such a cheat.’
"Nox, its hide is enchanted by the Rot," Serian called out, parrying a swipe from the deer’s sharp fore-hooves with her sword. "We cannot break through it with simple force!"
The deer turned its attention to her, its red eyes glowing with a hungry light. It lowered its head and charged, its crystal antlers aimed right for her heart.
He saw the attack coming. He knew she was fast, but this thing was on another level. He dematerialized the useless gauntlets and activated Void Forging, his Corrupted Mana swirling around his hand. He didn’t think about the shape, he just pictured what he needed.
A long, simple spear of solid black energy formed in his grip. It felt light, and deadly.
’Let’s try pointy.’
He didn’t have time for a perfect shot. He just threw it.
The void spear shot through the air like a black missile. It hit the deer in the shoulder, not with the dull clang of his fists, but with a sharp crack. It wasn’t a deep wound, but the spear dug in a few inches, making the creature scream in pain and rage. The charge toward Serian was broken as it stumbled sideways.
She used the opening.
She thrust her own hands forward. "Grasping thorns!"
The ground around the deer erupted. Thick, thorny vines shot out of the earth, wrapping around its legs and pulling it off balance. It roared, thrashing its head, the crystal antlers tearing through the vines. But she had bought them a few precious seconds.
He didn’t waste them. He moved, his body a low, fluid shape as he activated Shadow Glide. He ran along the trunk of a fallen log, using it as a ramp to launch himself into the air.
He summoned another spear in his hand as he flew, this one sharper, more defined. He was learning, shaping the power with more focus.
The deer tore through the last of the vines and looked up just in time to see him coming down.
He twisted in the air, putting all of his weight and momentum into the strike. The spear came down like a bolt of black lightning, aimed right for the back of the creature’s neck.
The spearhead hit the spot where the neck met the spine with a sickening crunch. The deer’s body went rigid for a second, then it just collapsed, its legs folding under it. It hit the ground with a heavy thud, the red light in its eyes flickering and then dying out completely.
The clearing went quiet.
He landed lightly on the ground beside the massive, dead creature, his own spear dissolving into black smoke. He was breathing hard, his body humming with the leftover energy of the fight.
A series of blue notifications lit up his vision.

He dismissed the screens. That was two down.
He looked over at Serian.
She was walking toward him, a small, impressed smile on her face.
"Your aim has improved," she said.
He just grunted, picking up the five new stat points and dumping them straight into Agility.
He needed to be faster.
[Agility: 65 -> 70]
"Your vines helped," he admitted. He couldn’t have made that shot without her.
"It seems our teamwork is becoming more efficient," she replied, her smile widening a little.
"Yeah, whatever," he mumbled, turning to look for the next blue line on the ground. "Let’s just find the next one."
He felt her walk up beside him. He glanced over and saw she was holding out a small waterskin.
"You should drink," she said. "You expended a great deal of energy."
He took it from her without a word and took a long drink. The water was cool and clean. He handed it back, their fingers brushing for a second.
His stomach flipped again.
’What the hell is wrong with me?’ he thought, looking away quickly. ’This is so stupid.’

Lola was on the ground, completely paralyzed by the poison. Mela stood over her, her face cold and serious. A bunch of silver needles were floating in the air, all of them pointed right at Lola.
It looked like Lola was in some serious trouble.
"You are going to answer my questions," she said, her voice was quiet but it was also super threatening. "Who is the human? And why did you call the Sun Elf a princess?"
Lola just glared up at her, her jaw tight. "Go to hell."
Mela sighed, like she was disappointed. She flicked one finger. A single poison-tipped needle shot down and buried itself in Lola’s shoulder.
she cried out, her whole body shaking as the poison went to work. It wasn’t a normal poison, it didn’t feel like it was killing her, it just felt like her whole body was on fire. frёeweɓηovel_coɱ
"I can do this all day," Mela said, her voice still calm. "But I have a feeling you can’t." She knelt down, her face close to Lola’s.
"The human. What is he?"
