World Awakening: The Legendary Player-Chapter 104: Zero Stamina
Chapter 104: Zero Stamina
Serian followed him onto the log, her steps were careful on the splintered wood while his were confident and steady.
"This is a terrible idea, they can just climb up the trunk to get to us."
"That’s the point, I want them to come to us, it’s easier than fighting them all down there."
The Chasm Stalkers below noticed them, they let out loud hissing sounds and started crawling up the side of the fallen tree.
’They’re fast, this is gonna be more annoying than I expected.’
The first stalker reached the top, its sharp claws clicking on the wood as it charged at him.
He punched it with his gauntlet, the force sending it flying off the side of the bridge and down into the chasm.
Serian stabbed another one that tried to get past him, her sword was quick and precise.
More and more of them were swarming up the trunk, the log was starting to get crowded with monsters.
"There are too many of them, we will be overwhelmed if we stay here!"
’She’s right, my stamina is already getting low.’ He looked at all the monsters below them. ’Punching them one at a time is a stupid plan, I need to kill them all at once, my Void Forging skill can make weapons, maybe it can make a lot of small ones instead of just one.’
"Get behind me."
She moved behind him without questioning him, her back was against his as she guarded their rear. "What are you planning?"
"A new trick." He held his hands out in front of him and focused. He drew on his mana, a lot of it, and formed it into a cloud of many small, black spikes in the air. The spikes were sharp and floated in a tight group.
Serian looked around his shoulder at the floating spikes, her eyes were wide. "By the spirits... Nox, what is that?"
"Crowd control." He opened his eyes, they were glowing a little. "Cover your ears."
He pushed his hands forward, and the cloud of spikes shot out in a wide cone. The attack was very effective. The first row of stalkers was obliterated, their hard shells bursting like rotten fruit and spraying black goo everywhere, their legs were torn from their bodies as the spikes ripped through them.
The wave of death continued down into the chasm, hitting the swarm of creatures still climbing the trunk, the sound was a wet, tearing noise followed by the high-pitched screams of the dying insects.
A blue screen appeared in his vision, and it was a mess of notifications scrolling by too fast for him to track them all.

"That was..." her voice was quiet, she was in complete shock. "That is power you should now wield at your level."
’Holy shit, that actually worked.’
He tried to act cool, but his body felt very weak, his mana and stamina were completely gone. The world tilted violently, his vision was a blurry mess. He felt a cold emptiness where his mana and stamina used to be. He tried to stand up straight but his legs were not working, he stumbled and started to fall off the side of the log.
"Nox!"
Her hand grabbed his arm, her grip very strong and pulled him back from the edge of the chasm. He leaned on her heavily, his body feeling useless while his head was spinning.
’This is so embarrassing, she’s practically carrying me, this is a new low.’
She helped him walk across the rest of the fallen tree, his feet clumsy stumbling a few times. They got to the other side and both collapsed on the rocky ground near the dark cave. He just lay there with his eyes closed. He felt her press a waterskin to his lips.
"Drink."
He drank the water, which helped a little, making him able to sit up.
"You are reckless," she was sitting next to him, her expression serious. "You use your power without any thought for the cost."
"It got the job done."
"Yes, it did, but what good is winning a battle if you cannot stand afterward?" She moved closer, her eyes fixed on him. "You cannot keep doing this, Nox, you cannot keep fighting like you have nothing to lose, because you do, you have a party that is waiting for you, and you have... me."
’What the hell is she talking about? Me? This is so confusing.’ His face felt hot, so he looked away from her, staring at the cave wall instead.
"You look cute when you are flustered like that."
’Cute? Did she just call me cute?’ His head turned back around to look at her, his expression was a mix of shock and total confusion. Her smile was teasing and her eyes looked happy, it was a look that was both annoying and very distracting.
This was much harder to deal with than any monster.
He looked away from her, his face still hot. "Don’t call me that."
She just laughed. "Why not, it is true, you are quite endearing when you are not trying to be so stoic."
’Endearing? What does that even mean?’ He was about to tell her to shut up, but a loud, high-pitched screech suddenly echoed from deep within the dark cave, the sound was sharp and it made them both jump. The fun, teasing moment was gone in an instant.
Serian was on her feet, her sword in her hand, her earlier smile replaced by a look of focused caution.
"That did not sound like one of the lesser ones," her voice was low. "That was the alpha."
Nox pushed himself to his feet, his body still feeling weak and hollowed out. He leaned against the wall, his head still a little fuzzy.
’Crap, I am in no condition to fight anything right now, my mana and stamina are basically zero.’
