World Keeper-Chapter 1235: A Mimic’s Story
Chapter 1235: A Mimic’s Story
After Lifre dealt with the newest monster attack, she once again started an educational stream within the Another World Research Group. Under the guidance of James and Chelsea, she split herself into three bodies, carefully filtering her energies.
One body held the domain of Adventure and World Sight, marked by the word ‘Adventure’ on her shirt. Similarly, the other two had the words ‘Hero’ and ‘Trial’, representing the domains that they possessed. The Hero clone possessed the buffing energy that she had obtained, now as the Pillar of Support, while the Trial clone wielded the debuffing energy known as Ultimate Denial.
The three clones each sat on a different machine’s platform, their eyes closed as they scanned through themselves to make sure that there wasn’t any lingering trace of any domain or energy outside of what they were meant to possess. This process took roughly ten minutes, after which they began to lift their hands one by one, giving a thumbs up.
Seeing this, James gave a small smile, nodding his head. “Alright, let’s move onto the ascension process.” He said, having spent the time waiting doing a few simulations in his mind. He was trying to predict any possible problems that may occur due to them using this peculiar method.
We’ll need to try to time it properly, to make sure that all three finish at roughly the same time. He thought. For that reason, the Ascendancy Scripture was activated first, as it took the longest to complete. Rather than having Lifre try to slow the progress of the other two, it was easier for them to control the timing in this way.
Once the scripture showed signs that it was starting to affect Lifre, he immediately activated the other two machines as well. Up to this point, it appeared to be similar to a normal Origin ascension, just as if they were conducting three at the same time.
“By the way.” Chelsea spoke up while the two of them were waiting to see the results of the experiment. “What domain did she pick for her Origin ascension?”
Due to her being busy with the other task that the Keeper had given her, she hadn’t been available to work on Lifre’s inner world. Instead, they had gotten the code for her inner world from Blank, with some small modifications made by Ashley’s team. Chelsea herself hadn’t seen it yet.
James shook his head, watching the screen. “At first, she was undecided between the Origin of Slimes or the Origin of Heroes. There were a lot of ideas we tossed around for both. However, in the end, what she chose was the Origin of Stories.”
Chelsea nodded, understanding the choice. Though, she gave a small shudder when she heard ‘Origin of Slimes’. “So many people consider slimes to be a weak race, only fit for use as a starter mob in a game. If they knew the kind of horrors evolved slimes were capable of, I’m sure things would be a lot different.”
“Yeah.” James smirked, chuckling at a memory. “Her main reason for wanting to do it was to melt people’s faces off.”
Chelsea rolled her eyes, about to speak when the screen shook, an explosion occurring within the stream itself. Moments later, Lifre appeared in front of them once again, an awkward smile on her face.
Immediately, James went back through the final frames of the stream, trying to figure out what caused this explosion. Meanwhile, Chelsea turned to Lifre. “So? What caused it this time?” She asked, wanting to get her opinion as the one who felt the matter most clearly.
“Well, actually… it succeeded?” James and Chelsea looked at Lifre in surprise when they heard that, but she quickly continued. “My Adventure body successfully formed its inner universe, and stabilized as an Origin. However, it tried to form a link with the other two clones that I couldn’t stop, which interrupted the process that they were taking.”
“In other words, it’s just about timing now?” James asked, looking at Lifre with wide eyes. From her description, the timing had to be accurate down to a fraction of a second, which would be difficult, but it was far more feasible than anything else that they had tried thus far.
“Yup!” Lifre nodded her head quickly. “But… can I try to do this next one without the machines?”
“Why would you want that?” Chelsea asked, momentarily unsure what Lifre was going for, before her eyes widened in surprise. “You think that you’re able to manually perform the ascension?”
“Yeah.” She confirmed with a slight chuckle. “I’ve been doing these experiments for so long, I’m familiar with all the changes that happen to my body. At this point, I think that I should be able to mimic those changes myself. It’ll make it a lot easier for me to get the timing right if I do it like that, instead of leaving it up to people who can’t sense what’s going on inside of me. Especially now that I’ve felt the proper creation of the universe. I’m itching to give it a go!”
Chelsea and James looked at one another, before James spoke up. “Alright, but we’re still going to be using the scanners to constantly monitor you. This is extremely important information. Not only is this the first triple-domain ascension, but it could also be the first fully manual Origin ascension.”
“That’s fine.” Lifre said, nodding her head before starting up another stream. This time, she was able to split into three far more quickly, having memorized the process before. She gave enough time for James and Chelsea to set up their monitoring equipment, before immediately beginning.
For the Ascendancy Scripture, she had long since learned how it worked, rewriting a void script over her own mana core. When done from the outside, this was a slow process, and could take anywhere from half an hour to several weeks, depending on the precision of the implement used. However, as Lifre was familiar with this void script, she could immediately activate it herself.
Similarly, the other two methods of ascending as a Fallen God had also been memorized by her in excruciating detail. When it came to copying what she had seen, Lifre was confident that only Lena would be able to outdo her.
In just a moment, all three of Lifre’s bodies entered into the ascension stage, each one controlling their energies in fine detail. When it came time to create her inner universe, Lifre recalled the feeling that she had experienced previously. Normally, this would be the hardest part to copy, bordering on impossible. However, it was a process ultimately caused by mana, which Lifre had a complete affinity with.
Due to this affinity, she had been able to perfectly analyze the mana sent into her during the process, and was able to replicate it on her own. With her three clones, she controlled the timing of the inner universe’s forming to perfectly harmonize.
Outside the stream, the two were watching impatiently, seeing how Lifre’s white hair briefly went pitch black, her skin darkening. Moments later, two of the clones stood up, jumping far into the distance before exploding.
When they saw that, they thought that the process had failed again, and were just starting to let out disheartened sighs. However, Chelsea noticed that the final Lifre was still there, her legs crossed. Her black hair faded back into white, as did her darkened skin. When she opened her eyes, they similarly returned to their gentle blue color.
“Did it… work?” She asked, her eyes wide. She knew better than to underestimate Lifre, especially when it came to her ability to learn and adapt. Still, she hadn’t expected that Lifre would have been able to succeed on her first try.
James quickly leaned over the terminal, observing the information being displayed through the stream. “All of the energy frequencies match… she’s a true Origin now.”
With that, Lifre ended the stream, appearing in front of them with a proud grin on her face. Of course, she was no longer an Origin after ending the stream, but that didn’t matter. With her abilities, if she succeeded in doing something once, she could succeed with it a hundred times.
James was about to say something when he sensed something off about Lifre’s energy. Without warning, he grabbed Chelsea and pulled her back with wide eyes. Chelsea, although briefly confused, soon understood when she saw Lifre’s hair changing once again, turning pitch black.
She split off clones from her main body to perform the ascension process immediately? Chelsea asked in alarm, though she kept the conversation with James in their minds, so as not to disturb her. We were supposed to wait until we had done consecutive successes before performing a real-world ascension.
Yeah, well, complain to her when she’s done. James retorted, not knowing what else to say. He hadn’t been expecting Lifre to do this any more than Chelsea had.
As they were communicating with one another, Lifre’s aura abruptly changed. They could sense powerful energy rushing in from beyond the void, pouring into Lifre’s body. Once it was done, she lightly shook herself off, returning to her previous appearance. “There we go, all done!” She said with a happy grin.
“That… was incredibly reckless!” Chelsea scolded, finally taking a step forward. “If you had failed, the entire research planet could have been destroyed.”
“But, I didn’t fail?” Lifre responded, tilting her head as if confused. To her, it was only obvious that she’d be able to repeat something that she had already done once before. “Though, I guess I should have said something first, at least? That’s my bad!”
Chelsea opened her mouth, trying to find the words to complain, but all that came out was a frustrated groan. “Just… just go. Your other bodies should have all been destroyed during the process, right? You’ll need to return to Olympus anyways.”
“Yup!” Lifre nodded quickly, before turning and running out of the lab. “Thanks for all the help, guys!”
Once Lifre had left, Chelsea fell back onto a chair, massaging her forehead. “James… be real with me. What are the odds that we’ll be able to replicate her ascension method?”
James pursed his lips, thinking to himself before answering. “It’s unlikely. We entertained the idea because she was confident, but being able to perfectly filter out your own domains like that… She had to filter it all the way down to her very core. At that point, she was expelling those domains from her body entirely.”
Chelsea nodded her head in agreement. “If she was able to do that, she could have just become an Origin with a single domain by getting rid of two of her others. Probably would have even been easier.”
James couldn’t help but agree with that. “Most people can’t do that to begin with. If that is the standard for ascending with multiple domains, we might be in trouble. For our sake, let’s just hope that what she did was a more unconventional method.”
“Still.” Chelsea looked up with a small grin. “We succeeded in creating a multi-domain Origin. That means that other people should be willing to sign up for the tests now. Even if her method was unusual, it could help pave the way for others.”
James let out a light laugh, a matching grin on his face. “True. We might just be able to talk Treisha into agreeing now. You still have that Enchantment Origin world you’ve been working on, right?” He asked in a knowing tone, and Chelsea nodded her head in confirmation.
“Yeah. Let’s see if we can’t get her to accept it now.”
