Chapter 48: Chapter 48, Those Who Covet Treasures, Seek Death!

The world blurred for a moment, then the golden light disappeared.

Lin Yi’s vision cleared, as the familiar wilderness returned. Tall trees. Uneven terrain. The distant outline of Jianghe City’s walls far away on the horizon.

Lin Yi stood silently where the dungeon gate had once been.

But the altar was gone.

The Celestial Emperor’s Abode had completely vanished as if it had never existed.

Lin Yi raised his eyes toward the sky. His brows lifted slightly.

The darkness of night was gone. The sky above was clear and pale blue. Morning sunlight filtered gently through the trees.

"...Morning already?"

Lin Yi frowned slightly.

That didn’t make sense. He had only entered the dungeon what felt like a short while ago. At most... an hour.

Yet the sky had changed from night to morning.

Lin Yi thought about it for a moment. Then a realization appeared in his mind.

"So time moves slower inside the dungeon."

The Celestial Emperor’s Abode clearly existed within a special dimensional space. A place where the flow of time was different.

Which meant something interesting.

Lin Yi looked up at the sky again.

"So today was yesterday... and tomorrow is today."

Lin Yi then turned slightly, preparing to head back toward the city. But just as he took a step, a voice echoed from the trees.

"Well, well."

"Looks like our patience wasn’t wasted."

Lin Yi stopped. As he spotted three figures slowly stepping out from behind the trees.

Hunters.

Their equipment was worn but clearly used in real combat. Each of them carried weapons. Swords. Daggers. One even had a heavy iron mace resting on his shoulder.

Their expressions were relaxed.

Too relaxed.

The man in front looked Lin Yi up and down. His lips curled into a faint smile.

"So you’re the one."

Lin Yi didn’t answer. He simply watched them calmly.

The second man laughed softly.

"What luck. I expected some veteran hunter or a guild team to walk out first." He shook his head slowly, his eyes filled with amusement. "But who would have thought the first person to leave the Celestial Emperor’s Abode would be a little academy student."

The third man narrowed his eyes.

"Look at the uniform. Jianghe Hunter Academy."

He chuckled.

"And judging from his face... he’s probably what? Seventeen? Eighteen?"

"Freshman."

The leader nodded slowly. Then he stepped forward.

His voice carried a strange calmness, but his eyes were filled with greed.

"You know, kid, we’ve been waiting here since the moment the dungeon event started." He stretched his neck slightly as if relieving stiffness. "Eight whole hours standing around this forest, listening to monsters howl and waiting for the first lucky bastard to walk out."

He smiled faintly.

"And now that lucky bastard is you."

Lin Yi remained silent.

The leader continued speaking, his voice turning slightly colder.

"You should understand something. When a dungeon event activates, the first person who opens the gate receives a special instance." He raised a finger slowly. "And that special instance means one thing. Better rewards." 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

The second hunter laughed loudly.

"Legendary weapons. Rare materials. High grade cores. Things hunters fight and kill each other for."

The third hunter added calmly,

"And since you’re the first person to come out, that means you probably triggered the dungeon yourself."

The leader nodded.

"That’s right."

His voice grew deeper.

"You’re probably carrying treasures most hunters can only dream of."

Lin Yi finally spoke.

"...So?"

The single word made the three hunters exchange looks.

Then they burst into laughter.

The leader shook his head slowly.

"Still acting calm?"

He stepped closer.

"You must not understand the situation you’re in."

His voice became heavy, each word carrying pressure.

"You’re alone. We’re three. You’re a freshman from the academy, barely eighteen years old. You probably just awakened your class a few weeks ago." He glanced at Lin Yi’s calm face and smiled mockingly. "Kid, we’ve been hunting monsters and people long before you even knew how to hold a blade."

The second hunter spoke next, his voice rough and greedy.

"Let me put it simply for you. Hand over everything you got from that dungeon. Weapons. Materials. Cores. Anything valuable." He tapped the hilt of his sword slowly. "If you cooperate, maybe we’ll let you crawl back to your academy alive."

The third hunter leaned against a tree, his tone cold. "Otherwise..." He smiled faintly. "We’ll take it ourselves."

Silence returned to the forest. Lin Yi stood still, his expression unchanged. The leader frowned slightly.

"Kid. Are you deaf?"

Lin Yi looked at them quietly. Then he spoke, his voice calm. "So you waited here... to rob the first person leaving the dungeon."

The leader grinned. "Now you understand."

Lin Yi nodded once. Then he said something that made all three hunters pause. "I see." He slowly unsheathed the Celestial Lord Blade. Golden light flowed along the weapon’s edge, and the three hunters’ eyes widened at the same moment.

"What the—"

"That weapon—"

Before they could finish, Lin Yi moved. His figure vanished. The leader’s instincts screamed.

"Behind—!"

Too late. Lin Yi materialized directly in front of the second hunter. The golden blade flashed.

SLASH!

Blood sprayed through the air. The man screamed as his arm separated from his body and hit the ground. His cries tore through the forest.

Lin Yi stood calmly in front of him, the Celestial Lord Blade resting at his side. "You raised your blade first." His voice was cold and even.

The remaining two hunters had gone completely still, eyes wide. The leader’s voice came out unsteady. "H-how—"

"You attacked first." Lin Yi’s gaze swept to them, and it was colder now. "So don’t blame me for striking back."

The injured hunter collapsed to the ground, clutching the stump where his arm had been. The other two stepped backward instinctively, fear visible and undisguised in their faces. The calm academy freshman they had chosen to rob was standing before them like something that had decided to be patient for a long time and had now stopped.

Lin Yi raised the Celestial Lord Blade slowly. Golden light caught along its edge. "Next time..." His gaze moved across all three of them. "...think carefully before raising a blade."
