Writing Web Novels In America-Chapter 70 Horror Movie
Chapter 70: Chapter 70 Horror Movie
Since it was the first time he had made such a drastic change to the work in his mind,
Wang Jian found the writing process exceptionally difficult.
He spent a long time advancing the completely altered plot of "Extreme Heavenly Demon" to a climax, which was roughly around one hundred thousand words.
At that point in the content, the protagonist just completed the first "Physical Exorcism" milestone.
This made many of Wang Jian’s readers realize that this was not just a fragment of inspiration from the author, but that a new work was about to be born.
As a result, not only were many authors incredulous,
but many readers’ glasses were also shattered, metaphorically speaking.
Many recounted Wang Jian’s endless stream of inspiration and speed of writing as nothing less than miraculous.
Influenced by this, the clicks and readership numbers for "Extreme Heavenly Demon" rapidly climbed.
It soon overtook "Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone" and began running neck and neck with "Arcane Throne."
The storytelling style of "Extreme Heavenly Demon," different from that of typical fantasy novels, was a breath of fresh air for these readers.
The mix of Greek Mythology with numerous horror legends as a story backdrop did not lack in immersion for the readers.
However, Leonard in Tennessee wasn’t in the mood to go online to read his favorite author’s latest work.
Because tonight, his "goddess" had a date with him.
"Indeed, as long as one earnestly cares and attentively looks after someone, there’s a chance to win Jessica’s favor."
While grooming himself in the mirror, he said, "As for those saying ’Jessica just had a fight with her boyfriend and is using me to make him jealous,’ they must be envious."
After spraying his mouth with the oral spray, Leonard picked up the movie tickets and stepped out of his house, self-praising his cleverness in his heart.
For tonight’s date, he had suggested watching the latest horror movie.
When the terrifying scenes came on and Jessica would be scared out of her wits, she would need a real "man" to rely on.
All he would need to do is whisper in her ear, "Don’t be scared, I am here."
Wouldn’t Jessica then willingly give her heart, struck by his manliness?
By then, a "hehehe, hahaha," would likely make things a reality.
Leonard stood at the entrance of the movie theater and waited a full twenty minutes before he saw Jessica’s figure.
She was still dressed in her casual school clothes and hadn’t really dressed up.
"Hmm, Jessica wants me to see her most authentic self," Leonard thought. Then he walked over to his "goddess."
"Jessica, what snacks do you want? Coke, popcorn, okay?" Leonard asked, trying to please her.
"Whatever," she replied, not particularly concerned.
"Right, your parents aren’t home tonight, are they?" Jessica asked again.
"Mhm." Leonard followed her, carrying two large buckets of popcorn.
"Can I sleep at your place then?"
"?" Leonard felt as if he had just won the lottery, excitedly looking at Jessica.
"Don’t get it wrong, my parents aren’t at home, and Dell has been lurking at my doorstep, looking to entangle himself again," Jessica looked at Leonard and said, "It’s just sleeping, literally just to sleep."
"Oh." Leonard wanted to say, "I’ll go teach Dell a lesson."
But after considering the difference in physique between himself and Dell, the mainstay of the football team, Leonard wisely chose not to say anything else.
Thus, with a person’s distance between them, they walked into the movie theater.
The theater wasn’t crowded, mostly with veteran "bloody horror film" enthusiasts.
And Leonard and Jessica, as newcomers, didn’t join these patrons, instead choosing seats toward the middle.
Of course, they still kept one seat between them.
Soon, the movie started.
A group of people went to play by the lake, with handsome guys and beautiful girls pleasing to the eye.
Leonard sneaked a glance at Jessica, only to discover that she was intently watching the movie, paying no attention to him at all.
He couldn’t help feeling a bit dejected.
But soon, the movie entered its high-energy phase.
Eerie music, thrilling atmosphere, and a killer who appeared out of nowhere.
As a large splatter of blood appeared on the screen, Jessica screamed and suddenly moved next to Leonard.
But Leonard wasn’t the "manly" figure he had imagined himself to be.
His hands were shaking, and his pupils dilated as he stared at the screen, his mind went blank.
Next, the movie lived up to its "B" grade classification.
Various high-energy scenes kept unfolding.
Leonard and Jessica, like lambs to the slaughter, shivered amidst the cheers of the other audience members.
Even their hands found each other’s.
Yet, neither of them noticed.
Finally, after an hour and a half, the movie ended.
People in the theater started to leave one by one.
Leonard and Jessica exchanged glances.
"I, I live not far from the theater," Leonard said, his voice trembling.
"Then, let’s go," Jessica spoke with a bit of a stutter.
The two of them left the theater, trembling on their way to Leonard’s home.
But on the way there, Jessica kept saying there was someone following them, which only heightened the fears of the already frightened pair.
They ran all the way to Leonard’s house, closed the front door, and gasped for air.
"You, you go sleep in my room, I’ll sleep on the couch," Leonard said, shivering.
"Okay, okay," Jessica replied.
Then, suspicious and on edge, they each went to their rooms to get some rest.
But Leonard couldn’t sleep until the middle of the night, as all kinds of wild thoughts kept popping into his head.
He couldn’t go on like this any longer; he needed to find something else to distract his attention.
So, Leonard got up and went to the study, turned on the computer, and prepared to read "Arcane Throne" to change his train of thought.
"Huh, a new release? ’Extreme Heavenly Demon’?"
Curious, he clicked to enter the work, ready to take a look.
But just then, Jessica’s voice came from outside the door.
"Leonard, did you make that noise just now? Where are you?"
"I’m in the study," Leonard responded.
Then, Jessica pushed the door open and entered.
"I, I’m a bit scared."
Although he was scared too, Leonard still pretended to be nonchalant and said, "You’re thinking too much. Come on, let’s watch something else to take our minds off things."
With that, he even placed a chair in front of the computer.
Jessica hesitated briefly before sitting down.
"’Extreme Heavenly Demon,’ is it a novel?" she asked.
"Yes," Leonard replied, "It’s a new book by the author of ’Arcane Throne.’"
"Is that the ’Arcane Throne’ that made it to the recommended reading list?" Jessica asked with a grimace.
As a celebrity at school, she wasn’t exactly the kind to dutifully read teacher-recommended books.
