Chapter 310: Chapter 310: Tanya, I Have a Favor to Ask of You

Vincent Hawthorne walked out, and for some reason, he suddenly stopped and turned toward Old Lady Hawthorne’s private residence.

Aunt Flora was chatting with the old lady in the front yard.

The old lady sat in a rocking chair, the evening breeze gently blowing as she chatted intermittently with Aunt Flora with her eyes closed. Ever since Tanya Sinclair and Vincent Hawthorne confirmed their divorce, the old lady split her shares evenly among her children and grandchildren, no longer dealing with the company affairs. Although she stayed at the ancestral house, she no longer had meals at the same table with Theodore Hawthorne and the others, nor did she allow them to disturb her.

The only ones who could come and go freely were Joy and Caden.

Vincent Hawthorne stood hesitantly at the gate, unsure if he should enter.

At that moment, Aunt Flora’s concerned voice came through: "Madam, is your headache acting up again? Just yesterday, Miss Tanya sent over some medicine. I’ve asked the kitchen to prepare it; once it’s cooled a bit, I’ll bring it to you."

Vincent Hawthorne was momentarily stunned, not expecting that Tanya Sinclair would still be sending medicine to Old Lady Hawthorne.

"All these years, only the medicine from that child Tanya has been effective for me." Old Lady Hawthorne sighed, her eyes slightly moist, speaking with a hint of sadness, "That child is kind-hearted. If I treated her three times well, she repaid me tenfold. Every time she brought me medicine, she would adjust the formula according to my condition, which must take so much time! This kind of care can’t be bought no matter the cost... Yet, alas, that rascal Vincent had no such fortune."

Whatever else the old lady said, Vincent Hawthorne didn’t hear. He turned and walked out dazedly. This path, Tanya Sinclair had once accompanied him on many times.

Back then, he always walked quickly, and she would always have to catch up in quick strides.

Vincent Hawthorne remembered that Tanya Sinclair always carried a scent of medicine, which grew stronger whenever she visited the old lady. He once really disliked the smell on her.

Now he realized those medicinal scents he despised were her heartfelt contributions day in and day out for him, for the Hawthorne family.

His unappreciated treasure.

His stomach throbbed intensely.

Vincent Hawthorne clutched his abdomen, pain driving him to one knee. In a daze, it felt as if he saw Tanya Sinclair’s figure, anxiously running toward him.

"Tanya..." Vincent Hawthorne reached out and grasped the person tightly.

The other person was startled, "Young Master, are you okay?"

It was the household maid.

Vincent Hawthorne closed his eyes momentarily, loosening his grip slowly. He got up and walked away.

Vincent Hawthorne returned to his car and received a call from his daughter Joy.

"Daddy, are you working late at the company again tonight? Don’t forget, you promised to accompany me to the school parent-child activity tomorrow!"

"Okay, Daddy remembers. I won’t be late." Vincent Hawthorne smirked gently, "Tonight, Daddy won’t come home. Let Mrs. Thorne tell you a story, alright?"

"Alrighty. Daddy, make sure you dress handsomely tomorrow, okay?"

Vincent Hawthorne smiled silently: "Okay."

"By the way, Daddy, lately, I’ve been getting calls from unknown numbers a lot. But as you told me, I haven’t answered any strange calls."

Vincent Hawthorne didn’t even need to think; he could guess it was definitely Cindy Lynn!

"Joy is the best." Vincent Hawthorne spoke gently, but his eyes turned cold.

If he didn’t deal with that woman soon, she’d likely continue to hassle Joy!

"Joy, Aunt Cindy went abroad for work; she won’t be coming back for a couple of years." Vincent Hawthorne preemptively warned his daughter.

The child is still young; in a couple of years, her impression of Cindy will fade. Then, he could just remind her that she wouldn’t be returning, and Joy would accept it.

"Oh?" Joy sounded a bit disappointed, "But Mommy Cindy said before..."

"Said what?"

"Nothing much." Joy held back, as Mommy Cindy had said she would appear at the parent-child activity and give Daddy a surprise.

Additionally, Cindy hadn’t contacted her recently, probably preparing the surprise.

"Goodnight, Daddy. I’m getting ready to sleep now."

"Goodnight, dear."

Inside the bedroom, Joy put down her phone as Mrs. Thorne came in with milk.

"Joy, which outfit do you want to wear for the school’s parent-child activity tomorrow?" Mrs. Thorne asked.

Though Joy was young, she had her own ideas about outfits.

Joy thought for a moment, then suddenly climbed down from the bed and rummaged through her closet for a red plaid suspender dress, with lace-trimmed sleeves.

"I’ll wear this tomorrow!"

"The dress is pretty, but it’s a bit wrinkled. Such a dress should be hung properly." Mrs. Thorne muttered to herself, "Did I leave it like that when I last tidied the closet?"

Joy lightly swayed with her hands behind her back, a little guilty.

Actually, she had deliberately buried it at the bottom of the closet.

This was a gift from her brother when Tanya took him out and asked him to bring it back for her...

"Mrs. Thorne, please make sure the dress is ironed perfectly for tomorrow. I want to wear it to school." Joy insisted.

Mrs. Thorne, thinking Joy was merely being vain, agreed with a smile: "Okay, Mrs. Thorne will make it look brand new, and when you wear it, Joy will surely be the prettiest little princess at school!"

Joy puffed, saying softly, "I’ll definitely look better than that little beggar!"

"What little beggar?" Mrs. Thorne was puzzled.

"Nothing, I’m going to sleep now. Mrs. Thorne, please leave." Joy declared as she climbed back into bed and covered herself with the blanket, eagerly anticipating the next day.

On the other side of the night.

Tanya Sinclair shut down her computer and got up to stretch a bit.

She had finished some work in advance to accompany Caden to the school’s parent-child activity tomorrow.

Suddenly, her phone on the side vibrated.

The caller ID showed Unknown Area, Unknown Number.

She frowned slightly, remembering a similar incident before.

After hesitating for a moment, Tanya Sinclair decided to answer.

First, there was some static as if the signal was unstable; Tanya Sinclair thought it might be a scam or prank call and was about to hang up.

Suddenly, a familiar voice came through.

"Tanya Sinclair."

Tanya Sinclair was slightly startled; this voice was...

"Felix Kendall?"

"It’s me." Felix Kendall’s voice sounded a bit weary, hoarse as if he hadn’t had water in a while. He spoke softly, "I need to ask a favor. I thought I’d make it back to accompany Abby to the parent-child activity tomorrow. But there’s a new emergency task, and I can’t return soon. Can you accompany Abby for me tomorrow?"

Worried that Tanya Sinclair might refuse, Felix Kendall immediately continued, "I’m not asking you to be her mother; I just hope you can spare some time to look after her. Abby really likes you."

"You don’t have to ask; I would do it anyway." Tanya Sinclair replied calmly, without a hint of reluctance, "I really like Abby as well."

Felix Kendall was quiet for a moment before saying with a smile, "Thank you. That’s all."

Tanya Sinclair vaguely heard explosive sounds in the background, "Felix Kendall."

"Hmm?"

Tanya Sinclair took a breath and said sincerely, "You’ll all come back safely. Abby is waiting for you at home."

Felix Kendall chuckled lightly, "Don’t worry, it’s just a new rescue mission. It’s not like I’m joining a suicide squad, and nowadays, Rhovan doesn’t lose against any military force. I’ll bring everyone back safely."
