Wrong Love, Final Goodbye: She'll Never Look Back-Chapter 378: Leah Thorne’s Scheme
Vincent Hawthorne instinctively glanced at her screen and saw the caller ID "Mom".
Leah Thorne swiftly hung up, but the other party called again. This time, Leah directly turned off her phone.
Vincent raised an eyebrow and asked, "Not going to answer?"
Leah shook her head, "No, I’m not."
Vincent’s curiosity about her stopped there, and Leah didn’t explain the reason.
He liked her for being sensible and knowing her boundaries.
After finishing their meal, Vincent intended to leave.
Leah stopped him, "Mr. Hawthorne, wait for me; I’ll go down with you. I’ll see you off and take a walk to help digest the food."
Vincent leaned against the door and waited for her to pack up, and the two went downstairs together.
Just as they walked out the door, suddenly, a middle-aged couple, dressed in old cotton-padded jackets and looking rustic, rushed towards Leah.
"You wretched girl, how dare you turn off your phone! Living in such a nice house, have you forgotten your parents and brother?!" The woman’s voice was sharp, with a thick accent.
Vincent frowned slightly, making a judgment in seconds.
This couple should be Leah’s biological parents.
Mr. Thorne clearly had a bit of a limp, but his demeanor was fierce, thin and dark, with sinister lines like ravines etched into his skin.
"I said I didn’t want her going out to study! The more books she reads, the more she forgets where she comes from, not even coming home!" 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Leah’s face turned red as she shouted, "I’m not going back! I don’t want to be in an arranged marriage!"
"We’ve received the wedding gift money. Can the village chief’s son treat you poorly? Come back with me!"
Vincent initially didn’t intend to meddle, but seeing Mr. Thorne trying to grab Leah’s hair, Vincent’s expression turned cold, and he grabbed the man’s wrist.
Vincent coldly warned, "This isn’t your village. If you have something to say, say it properly. Don’t get physical!"
Vincent was tall and had a strong presence. Mr. Thorne was bold with his daughter but was visibly intimidated in front of a tall adult male.
"Who the hell are you? This is a family matter, none of your business! Let go!" Mr. Thorne cursed and struggled.
Vincent frowned slightly, and at that moment, his assistant Jonah Rivers called. Not waiting for Jonah to speak, Vincent said, "I’ll send you my location. Bring a lawyer directly."
Leah looked up at Vincent with red eyes, "Mr. Hawthorne, I’m sorry for involving you."
Vincent glanced at her and asked in a low voice, "Do you want to go back with them?"
Leah shook her head vigorously, "No, I don’t want to go back for an arranged marriage!"
She seemed terrified, instinctively reaching out to grab his sleeve.
This familiar action made Vincent pause slightly.
Mrs. Thorne continued to harshly scold Leah for being ungrateful.
"We raised you, you ungrateful brat, now that you’ve hooked up with a rich man, you just abandon your parents, is that it? We used the bride price to buy your brother a house! If you don’t return for the wedding, give back the money!"
Leah passionately retorted, "I didn’t take a penny! How am I supposed to give it back? Whoever took the bride price should be the one to marry!"
Mrs. Thorne was infuriated, frenziedly rushing over to deliver a fierce slap to Leah’s face.
Vincent, restraining Mr. Thorne, couldn’t stop it. He watched as Leah took the solid hit, her face tilting to one side.
He frowned slightly. Leah tidied her hair, raised her head, one side of her face red and swollen, with a trace of blood at the corner of her mouth.
She stubbornly said, "You might as well kill me. Since I’m your daughter, take my life away! I won’t give you a penny today!!"
Mrs. Thorne wanted to strike again but was stopped by Vincent’s angry rebuke: "Enough! Keep causing a scene, and do you believe I’ll make sure you end up with not just no money today, but in jail instead!"
Mr. Thorne and Mrs. Thorne were intimidated by Vincent’s imposing manner and afraid of genuinely getting no money, exchanged glances.
Mrs. Thorne sized Vincent up, noticing his refined attire and extraordinary demeanor, and put on a flattering smile, "Sir, are you her boyfriend or a sugar daddy?"
Vincent laughed mirthlessly.
While he wasn’t exactly a gentleman and his relationship with Leah was not upright, with mutual needs in men-women relationships being normal.
But it was his first time seeing a mother eager to push her daughter onto a wealthy man as a plaything.
"I’ll take care of Leah’s matters," Vincent couldn’t be bothered to waste words with them and straightforwardly asked, "How much do you want?"
Upon hearing this, the Thorne parents were overjoyed, but Leah immediately tried to stop him.
Leah: "Mr. Hawthorne, don’t indulge them! Please leave, I can handle..."
Vincent looked at her face, swollen from the slap and similar to Tanya Sinclair’s, and couldn’t help but feel a twinge of heartache, frowning slightly.
"I’ll handle it. Just consider it..." Vincent leaned in close to her ear, whispering, "A thank you for the meal."
"..."
Leah clutched at her clothes with trembling hands, her heart, which had been hanging in suspense, finally finding stability.
Where Vincent couldn’t see, her mouth subtly curved upward.
——She succeeded!
Getting rid of this pair of parasitic parents on her own was too difficult.
They were like maggots in the bones, impossible to shake off, or like a ticking time bomb buried on her life path, threatening to derail her at any moment!
But having someone like Vincent in her life to handle these bloodsucking, unfaithful parents was as easy as crushing an ant!
