Yarra's Adventure Notes-Chapter 1397 - 183: Who is the Special One?
Chapter 1397: Chapter 183: Who is the Special One?
"Pfft." Pannis’s fierce expression made Catherine burst out laughing. During their journey to the heart of the Forest of Death, especially in the battle at the Temple of Danacus, the girls had only seen the strength and courage of the scorpion-tailed lion Dillie. Although they had heard from Pannis and the Winged twins about Dillie’s previous timid nature, without concrete examples, it was hard to imagine what a cowardly Dillie would look like. Now, the girls had finally found an example. They couldn’t help but laugh at the thought of a powerful creature that dared not use its strength, only sneaking attacks from behind its teammates. Yes, they just found it amusing and bore no anger toward this behavior. Moreover, including Pannis, the other heroes never blamed Dillie for his moment of cowardice. They all knew that as a creature not skilled in combat, overcoming his fear and charging into the Divine Kingdom of Danacus with the once-great Kyle was an act of courage in itself. The performance in battle was merely a limitation of ability and mindset, nobody had the right to blame him. Thus, Catherine just giggled and gave Pannis a playful punch, whispering, "You were speaking well just now, but why did your tone turn sarcastic the moment you mentioned Mr. Dillie? Be careful, or Mr. Dillie might eat you up."
"Because he was just infuriating. Even under such tense circumstances, after discovering that, I couldn’t help but run over and kick him," Pannis retorted with an annoyed roll of his eyes: "Only after I was sure he wouldn’t be affected by Divine Punishment and backlash like Mina did I decide to change tactics."
"Wait, I have a question." Lina’s face was unusually bleak as she stared at Pannis, "I’m curious why..."
"There are many things you shouldn’t ask so clearly," Pannis said sternly, looking straight back at Lina and cutting her off, "You can think about these things, you can guess, then you must immediately forget them, rather than obsess over clarifying them, as it will bring you no benefits. Over the years, you have met quite a few Demigods from various tribes who fervently worship the Deities including those like Doris and Alcmene who serve Deities directly, and even Flare who serves as both Queen and Archbishop. And just now, you also met several Demigod Undeads of different statuses when they were alive. There’s a phrase almost every one of them has said, some even repeatedly. They’ve always stressed that mortals should not speculate about the will of the Deities, which is beyond mortal comprehension. Do you think they say this casually? No, this is based on their experience. You certainly can choose not to follow their advice, but doing so only brings disadvantages."
"What are you... talking about?" The other girls couldn’t grasp the content of their conversation, hearing only snippets about Deities. Catherine couldn’t help but ask quietly, "If it’s not a secret, could you explain it to us? If it’s confidential, never mind."
Lina did not directly answer Catherine’s question but instead looked at Pannis for his opinion. Pannis, with a thoughtful frown, sighed and said, "I’m saying this mainly as a reminder to you, but as for them, there shouldn’t be any problem."
"Alright, big sister, I’ll tell you what we’re talking about." Lina, with a somber expression, thought for a while and finally decided, "Just now, from Pannis’s story, I suddenly had a question. The Guardians are unaffected by Divine Punishment and backlash, which we explain as being born from Lord Yarra’s will—yes, that makes sense. But why is Mr. Dillie also unaffected by Divine Punishment and backlash?"
"Have you forgotten? Because his soul doesn’t belong to this world either," Catherine said, puzzled, "Like how he could freely enter and leave the Forbidden Land of Living Souls because of his soul’s uniqueness."
"Yes, his immunity to Divine Punishment could be due to his unique soul, the powers of Divine Punishment can’t affect his distinct soul, I’ve guessed as much," Lina said with a bizarre expression on her face, whispering, "But what about backlash from attacks?"
"Backlash from attacks?" Catherine asked, confused, "What’s the difference from Divine Punishment?"
"Of course there’s a difference, Divine Punishment might be an effect on the soul, while theoretically, backlash from attacks should be a physical reality," Lina explained as she shook her head, "Divine Punishment directly affects the soul, so perhaps due to Mr. Dillie’s unique soul, Divine Punishment can’t produce an effect on such unique souls, which is absolutely plausible. However, backlash from attacks is a rule, a worldly existence, without divinity, attacking a Deity, and the result is necessarily that the effect of the attack returns upon oneself, directly targeting the body, making the uniqueness of the soul rather irrelevant, so using Mr. Dillie’s soul’s uniqueness to explain the inefficacy of attack backlash is untenable."
"What... do you mean?" Catherine’s face also changed, and although she was not well-versed in theological knowledge, she was no fool. Halfway through Lina’s explanation, she understood and hesitantly said, "Are you suggesting that what’s actually special is us?"
"We are all the Lord’s children," Lina said, bowing her head and drawing a square in front of her chest, not directly answering Catherine’s question but praying softly, "May our Lord forever have mercy."
"Actually, if you really want an explanation, there are many reasons, what you think is not the only explanation, nor even the most likely one," Pannis said as he tapped on the table to draw the girls’ attention, "But these kinds of explanations are what people like to believe most, which is why those people keep saying not to presumptuously guess the will of the Deities. It’s not because it’s disrespectful to the Deities but because your speculations will never find an answer, only allowing seeds of doubt and hostility to take root in your heart, sprout, and eventually bear twisted fruit. However, are your doubts real? No one knows."
"Yes, I’ve understood now," Lina drew a few more squares before lifting her head and nodding at Pannis, "Thank you for your reminder. Indeed, especially for me, I should never maliciously speculate about the will of the Deities. Perhaps this is a test given by our Lord. Fortunately, my faith has not been lost."
