Young Master System: My Mother Is the Matriarch-Chapter 59: Aftermath and Ascension
Chapter 59 - 59: Aftermath and Ascension
The dust had settled over Crescent Moon City. The once-proud banners of the Zhou and Shen Clans lay trampled in the mud, their halls now hollowed ruins. The streets outside their pavilions, once bustling with merchants and cultivators, were eerily silent—save for the occasional wail of a banished clansman being herded beyond the city gates by armored enforcers.
Li Wei stood atop the Liu Clan's highest pavilion, watching the exodus with a detached calm. The wind carried the scent of charred wood and fading resentment. He had his differences with both clans, but after throwing them off their echelons, the young man was content with himself.
"A fitting end for traitors who danced with devils," murmured a voice behind him. The Qi fluctuations radiating from his body were not lackluster, which suggested that he was a cultivator that had made decent progress with his Martial Technique
City Lord Han, his aged frame wrapped in heavy blue brocade robes, stepped forward, his cane tapping against the polished wood. "Though I wonder... how much of this 'justice' was truly the city's will... and how much was yours?" His milky eyes gleamed with unspoken suspicion.
As an old veteran he had relied on his instincts innumerable times to escape calamity, it was safe to assume that his doubts about the morality of the young man before him were not baseless. "I heard something about you taking the companion of a young lord from the Zhou clan."
Li Wei didn't turn. "The heavens punish those who reach beyond their grasp. I merely... nudged the scales." He was not going to put on a facade like his actions didn't aggravate the situation, but the sins of the Zhou and Shen clans were not small either.
The City Lord's lips thinned. "And what of the 'abyss' you sealed? The common folk whisper of a demon eye in the sky. Should I reassure them it won't return?" after probing him about his intention, the old warrior brought the issue that had been weighing on his mind.
City Lord Han was dumbfounded by the vast expanse of the portal that had nearly eclipsed the sky, at the moment he though all hope was lost. He would never have expected that the situation would be resolved by a pair of youngsters that appeared to be just approaching maturity.
A slow smile curled Li Wei's lips. "Tell them whatever lets them sleep at night, Lord Han. Though—" He finally glanced back, his gaze sharp as a unsheathed blade. "—if they were truly concerned about their wellbeing, perhaps they shouldn't have let vipers nest in their midst." As a transmigrater, Li Wei had little attachment to an obscure lower plain, in his eyes the thoughts and opinions of ordinary folks meant nothing.
The old man's grip tightened on his cane. "You're a dangerous man to question, Li Wei." City Lord Han had encountered evildoers and righteous saints in his years of travel, but he had never encountered a young man like Li Wei. What left the aged lord dumbfounded was the lack of remorse or compassion for anything or anyone around him.
"And you," Li Wei chuckled, "are a bold one to try." The young man was ruthless, but he was no madman. If a foe did not show ill intent he would not confront them needlessly, a world this large was full of mysteries. Killing randomly would simply bring about the wrath of heaven upon him, and at his level such forces would slay him.
With that, he stepped off the pavilion ledge—and vanished in a ripple of golden qi, leaving the City Lord to stare at empty air.

A fortnight passed in Crescent Moon City.
The Liu Clan had spared no expense in housing their "esteemed guest." Li Wei's chambers were a masterpiece of luxury—jade-inlaid floors, silk drapes that shimmered like liquid moonlight, and an incense burner coiling sandalwood smoke into intricate spirals.
Yet Li Wei cared little for opulence. Cross-legged atop a cushion of frost bear fur, he exhaled deeply, his consciousness plunging inward—into the shimmering blue void of his nebula

***System interface alert***
**[ Ding! ]**
A crisp chime struck the crystal tab revealing a set of alluring golden text flared before him:
Completed: Prove Your Strength as a Young Master
--> HOST HAS ACCUMULATED REWARDS FOR VANQUISHING VILE PAGANS
--> SYSTEM STORE HAS BEEN UPDATED WITH NEW ITEMS.**
--> CURRENT SYSTEM COINS: 2,450.**
Li Wei's eyebrows rose. "Well, well. Let's see what treasures the heavens have bestowed." The system had been silent these past two weeks and had not bothered him in slightest, which made him wonder how the interface actually worked.
The menu expanded, and new entries pulsed with an otherworldly glow:
---
**NEW EPIC ITEMS:**
**-> [Blood of the Vanquished] (Cost: 1,800 Coins)**
*"The distilled essence of fallen foes. Absorb to temporarily inherit their strongest technique for 24 hours. WARNING: Host's mind may be flooded with the deceased's lingering rage. Do not ingest before meditation."*
Li Wei whistled. "Now that's a spiteful little trinket. Imagine drinking Zhou Mu's memories just to spit out his techniques." He didn't have much interest absorbing such a sinister concoction.
The System's voice dripped with dry amusement: "A wise man said 'To eat a scorpion, one must first crush its sting.' Host is advised to 'crush' any residual wills thoroughly before consumption."
---
-> [Abyssal Maw Gauntlets] (Cost: 2,000 Coins)
"Forged from the teeth of the rift creature. Each strike carries 10% chance to inflict 'Soul Devour'—permanently stealing a sliver of the victim's cultivation. WARNING: Overuse may cause host's meridians to 'hunger' for allies' qi as well."
Li Wei's fingers twitched. "Tch. A double-edged sword sharper than Leng Yue's tongue." He had longed for gloves that could enhance his fist techniques to another level, but the gauntlets he did possess were far too profound for him to wield presently.
The interface chimed subtly "As the ancients warned: "Feed a wolf with your hand, and soon it craves the arm."
---
**NEW LEGENDARY ITEM**
-> [Sky-Severing Nail] (Cost: 2,400 Coins - LIMITED STOCK: 1/1)
"A relic from the God-Slaying War. When driven into the earth, it sunders all spatial rifts within 10 miles for 1 hour. SIDE EFFECT: Attracts the attention of 'Those Who Watch Beyond the Veil.'"
Li Wei's smirk faded. "...That's not a side effect. That's a death sentence." Using such an item would bring untold peril upon him, it was not up for discussion. He was well aware that such forces would eradicate him instantly
The System's tone turned eerily serene , "All tools of heaven-shaking power demand equal sacrifice. Will the host shy from the gaze of gods?"
A brief moment of silence followed. Then Li Wei laughed, sharp and bright. "Why not? Am no fool, I'll probably have to get a revival item for a special fee." Despite only being with the system briefly, Li Wei knew that it had a tendency to attract disaster for profit.

**MYTHIC ITEM (TEMPORARY LISTING)**
-> [The Unnamed Emperor's Crown] (Cost: ??? Coins - LOCKED)
*"Requirements to unlock: Host must first reach Nascent Soul Realm. WARNING: This item's price is not paid in coins... but in 'karma.'"*
"..." Even the shady System seemed to pause. "This one advises caution. Some doors, once opened, cannot be closed."
Li Wei stared at the flickering text, his reflection warping in the interface's glow. For the first time in his life, something icy traced his spine—not fear, but the thrill of standing at the edge of reality.
