Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife!-Chapter 412: Justin Grant Has Not Long to Live
In her pitiful state, not only could Heather Holt not bear it, even Justin Grant felt a bit of sympathy soften his heart.
"Do you know where you went wrong?" After a brief pause, Justin Grant glanced gently at Victor Grant beside him, suggesting he help May Morgan up before he asked her.
May Morgan nervously clenched her fingers and softly replied, "I know, my unresolved feelings with my ex-husband brought shame to the Grant Family."
Victor Grant, upon hearing this, quickly stepped in to defend May Morgan, saying, "Dad, it’s not May’s fault, it’s mine for not handling things with Vincent well. If you want to blame someone, blame me."
At this point, placing blame was pointless. Justin Grant cast a meaningful look at the two of them and said in a deep voice, "I didn’t approve of your marriage from the beginning, but Victor’s nature is really..."
Justin Grant helplessly shook his head before looking at May Morgan with a heavy expression: "May, come with me, I have something to say to you!"
After speaking, he took a step and walked out. Seeing this, May Morgan hurriedly followed, and Victor, fearing his father might hit May, also tried to follow, but May quickly stopped him.
"Take care of Aunt Jennings, I’ll be fine." May smiled at Victor before turning to follow him out.
At the doorway, she looked up to see Justin Grant standing before the glass window at the end of the corridor, staring at the scenery outside lost in thought.
"Uncle Grant..." May cautiously approached Justin Grant and called out softly.
Justin Grant didn’t immediately turn around but continued to admire the view outside, lost in thought. After a long while, he slowly turned to glance at May.
"You don’t love my son, do you?"
He asked this awkward question so suddenly that May didn’t know how to respond. After a brief pause, she cautiously replied, "Uncle Grant, don’t worry. Vincent and I have an agreement; I will stay and be his wife for six months, after which he’ll grant me my freedom."
Justin Grant suddenly looked at May with a deep frown and said softly, "I know my son. His nature is much more stubborn than mine ever was and far more extreme. If he’s hit too hard emotionally, the consequences are unimaginable." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
May didn’t understand why Justin Grant was telling her this, and she couldn’t help but feel anxious. What exactly did he want? Did he not want her to leave Victor? But wasn’t Heather Holt the one who promised to give her six months to consider?
"Uncle Grant, I don’t understand what you’re trying to say," May hesitated and asked Justin.
Justin Grant didn’t speak but silently took a folded piece of paper out of his pocket and handed it to May.
With suspicion, May carefully unfolded it; it was a medical report of Justin Grant.
And when she saw the diagnosis, her eyes widened in disbelief.
"Uncle Grant, this..." May’s body trembled slightly as she looked at Justin in disbelief.
But Justin remained calm and nodded at her, then said, "This was discovered a month ago; it’s already late-stage. The doctor said, even with conservative treatment, I likely won’t make it past six months..."
May’s fingers trembled slightly as she held the report, her mind a mess unsure what to say. Did Heather Holt know about this? Did Victor know? Why was he telling her?
"Does Victor know about your condition?" After a pause, May couldn’t help but softly ask.
Justin’s eyes were calm as he shook his head and replied, "Not yet. For the past month, Victor has been busy with your wedding, so I haven’t had a chance to tell him."
"Then... does Aunt Jennings know?"
"She doesn’t either. I’m afraid she can’t handle it." Speaking of Heather Holt, a trace of tenderness reflected in Justin’s eyes. He sighed slightly, "What I can’t let go of is her. She’s been with me for most of her life, cherished by me for most of her life. I’m just afraid that once I’m gone, there won’t be anyone left to treat her as kindly as I did..."
With that, Justin suddenly turned his body slightly, using the opportunity to wipe the tears from the corners of his eyes. May looked at him in surprise, at this man she’d always feared, suddenly feeling that his love for Heather was enviable.
"Uncle Grant, I, I’ll take care of Aunt Jennings for you. I promise no matter where things go between Victor and me, I’ll love and care for her like my own mother."
May, with tears in her eyes, couldn’t help but promise Justin.
Justin turned to look at May, suddenly giving a self-deprecating laugh, "Forgive me for the display. In truth, I’m quite indifferent to life and death. When I was young, I didn’t know how many times I had faced death. Those days, I was even more relentless than Victor. But once you have something to hold onto, someone to love, you start to cherish life..."
"Victor is my only son. After I’m gone, the heritage will certainly pass to him, but up until now, he’s always resisted taking over the Grant Family’s business. I’m afraid just six months won’t be enough for him to handle everything. May, can you promise me one thing?"
At this, Justin Grant looked earnestly at May, making her all the more tense.
She guessed that what he wanted her to promise had to do with Victor.
But...
"Uncle Grant, what do you want me to promise?" May didn’t dare agree immediately and instead asked tentatively.
"Victor’s temper is too fiery. In this world, besides you, there’s no one else who can calm him. I don’t ask you to stay with him for life, but at least wait until he’s back on his feet and has fully taken over the Grant Family business before you leave. That way, Aunt Jennings will have someone to rely on for the rest of her life and won’t grieve too deeply over my passing."
"But... Uncle Grant, I already promised Aunt Jennings that I would stay by Victor’s side for six months..."
"You didn’t understand my meaning. Just six months is too short, and if I’m gone by then, with Victor’s temper, he will become unruly. Unless you willingly stay by his side, letting him feel he has a rock, a reason to live, otherwise, I can’t predict how things will turn out."
With that, Justin Grant sighed sadly, gazing at May’s delicate and beautiful face, he said thoughtfully, "I don’t know what Victor likes about you, but for sure his feelings are genuine. The men in our Grant Family only ever give their hearts to one woman for life, but if they can’t have her, the consequences can be disastrous. I’m saying this for your own good. You don’t want to reach a point of no return, harming everyone involved. In life, you always have to consider everyone, it doesn’t matter who you like, what’s important is to ensure the people you care for can live well in this world, and the ability to control how things develop is crucial."
